3 2009 COWTOWN T s CHILI COOK-OFF There was a total of 13 different flavors of chili entered in this years competition, ranging from mild to wild. Chili with noodles, chili with sausage, and even a vegetarian chili, but Cowtown T members voted Kenny s chili the best. Kenny will get to display the coveted trophy in his home until next years competition. Congratulations Kenny for the creation of your award winning chili! 4 A Family of T s By: Gary Schwendemann I grew up in a family that loved T hot rods. My father rented a large building in Colorado Springs, CO for $120 per month two blocks from where we lived. It was big enough to hold 12 cars. We kept 3 stalls for our self and rented the other stalls out to other street rodders in the area. Never really turned into a club, just Hank's Garage (my father). My father and I got to work on our T s few years later, 1968 or 69. He started with a 26 coupe so the wife s hair wouldn't blow in the wind. Dad was a true ford man. It started with a souped up 1953 Merc flathead then added a 371 GMC blower with two 2 barrels and then found two McMullough super chargers to add to the mix. He used a C-4 transmission and Ford 9 inch rear end. It took him a while to cut the holes in the rear fenders for the exhaust to exit. Dad was a real estate broker and had the money to spend on his car. Dad painted all of our cars for us but made us do all of the sanding and body work. My father died of cancer in Mom sold the car to a man that changed the motor out, as every where he drove it people commented that was Hank's old car. We built my brother's 1923 touring T first, starting around He paid $55 for the body and started with a 390 but decided it was too small and went to a 1958 Lincoln 430, transmission and rear end. That model year developed 425 horses stock. Then some one said that 8 singles would look good on top. Another trip to the junk yard for 8 single Hollys found on taxi cabs (they had the glass bowls). At the muffler shop, my father took over the bending machine as we could not afford all of the mistakes the owners were making. As you can tell each car has rather custom exhaust. He ended up with 8 dumped tubes standing up next to the carbs. My brother still has his car but needs some TLC, as he has stored it while he raised his 11 kids. I started my 1927 T by paying $20.00 for the body and a 28 A frame. Then for $500 I bought a wrecked in the rear 67 custom 500. I pulled the 289, C-4 and 9 inch out plus everything else I thought I could use and sold the rest to the junk yard for $150. Dad found a cross-ram from a 413 Chrysler Hemi and made adapters for it to fit the 289. Talk about wild! Each carb was out by the front tires. I really never finished my car, as with dads passing I ended up selling my car to my cousin. He took off the cross-ram, put on a 2 barrel and got the T running. He kept the car for 10 years, driving it 700 miles and called my mom saying he was going to sell it and gave us first chance. Mom called me while I was in Louisiana working in the oil field and said the T was for sale for $2500. I didn't think I needed it as I really didn't have a place to keep it. She said, Too bad. Come get it and you owe me $2500. The best thing I ever did. I have had it ever since.

5 GEORGE BARNES NAMED MEMBER OF THE YEAR FOR 2008 AT COWTOWN T s CHRISTMAS PARTY Because of his willingness to help other club members with their cars or their projects George Barnes was chosen by the Cowtown T s Executive Board to be named the 2008 MEMBER OF THE YEAR at the 2008 Annual Christmas Party. George is pictured above receiving his award from Club President Gordon Hoy. George has designed and built parts in his shop for just about every T-Bucket in the club, and all club members will agree that when it comes to working with any type of metal George is the Go to GUY! 6 The Street Tzers had a pretty good turnout of T-buckets for the 7th Annual New Years Day cruise. The weather was a little better than some in the past with temps in the mid 30s and just a few flurries of snow. This year they had five buckets and about 12 members on the cruise from Springfield to Republic where they met at the Diamondhead restaurant for the meeting. Like Tub-T always says, "live to drive...drive to eat". They are all looking forward to spring to get down to some real cruising. Thank you to Al Carpenter for these pictures.
