I would like to extend the clubs deepest sympathy during this time of sorrow. February 12, :00 pm Director Gordon Boyd called the meeting to order. We stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Gail read minutes from last meeting. Minutes approved as read. Treasurer s report Ron gave the report. He did not close the savings account; good news is we made another 9 cents. Dues are now up to $30 for those that haven t paid yet. New Members or Guests Jeff Heisler was recognized. Past Events: None to Report. Old Business: Dues are due, if not received by 1 May you will be dropped from the membership. Karen Boyd has made the purchases from the money received from the club and Larry Grimit for raffle prizes at the March show. Since the Fast Stop Show is no longer happening on the Friday evening of Graffiti, Tom Gray from Lithia Ford stepped up and they are going to host a show in the Lithia Ford parking lot. This has already been approved by the Graffiti Committee as an official Graffiti event. New Business: Rick talked about his friend Jim and his Top Fuel Car called The Varmint. Jim would be willing to bring the top fuel car up to the show-n-shine and sell raffle tickets.
2 The winner would get the chance to sit in the car when he fires it up. Garland made the motion and Jack seconded it to have the car brought to the show. Motion passed. The t-shirts are done and ready for sale. Thanks to Diane s Deli for providing a place to fold them. We still need more raffle prizes for the March show. The display committee met and decided the club display this year will be a tire shop theme. Setup for the display will be Friday March 10 from 10 am to 6 pm any help available is appreciated. No meeting in March due to the show. Next meeting is on April 9 at 6 pm, please note change of time due to being after daylight savings. The search and rescue crew that usually helps park spectator cars during show-n-shine are busy this year. Jack said he would talk to a group from Douglas High School. If anyone has an idea of groups that would be good for this job, please report back at our next meeting. We need 11 people for 8 hours; they will be paid $10 an hour. A meeting was scheduled for February 21 at 5 pm to go over the new business cards for the club. Upcoming events: February Salem Roadster Show March 12 - March Indoor Benefit Car Show, Roseburg 50/50 $40 Sunshine $12 Vicki $12 Vicki $12 Dana Garland made motion and Monna seconded it to adjourn meeting. Meeting adjourned 3:00 pm New Car Club Members Since our February meeting, we have added the following new car club members. We would like to welcome: Billy & Gloria Cline of Roseburg Editor Corner: Well I suspect some of you are wondering what happened to the February newsletter. I cannot publish the letter until after I receive the meeting minutes for the previous car club meeting. With that being said, in the future, I will publish the newsletter on the 26 th of the month for the month s newsletter. For example, I will publish the May newsletter on the 26 th of April. This will give the secretary approximately 3 weeks to put the minutes together and send them to the club director. Oregon Driving Trivia In 1905, the first vehicle registration las was enacted by the state Legislature. Helmus Thompson of Eugene registered the first car in Oregon, a two-horsepower Oldsmobile. Also in 1905, Portland raised the speed limit on city streets from 8 to 10 miles per hour. In 1907, the Oregon Auto Association called for all counties to put up road signs so that auto-tourists might be able to find their way anywhere in Oregon. In 1911, annual vehicle license renewals began. Instead of writing/painting the registration number on the back of the car, the state introduces license plates. E. Henry Wemme of Portland registered his 32-horsepower Pope-Hartford touring car and received Oregon license plate #1. February/March Car History February 1, The Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, CT, issued the first automobile insurance policy. Dr. Truman Martin of Buffalo, NY, paid $11.25 for the policy, which gave him $5,000 in liability coverage. February 17, 1972 Beetle become best-selling car The Volkswagen Beetle surpasses Ford's Model T as the world's best-selling car, as the 15,007,034th Beetle rolls off the assembly line. March 2, 1966 Ford produced its one millionth Mustang. This was less than 2 year after it s debut. March 8, 1950 The Volkswagen Bus began production. Dutch Volkswagen importer Ben Pon is credited with the bus concept after impressing engineers with a sketch of the vehicle showing the cab moved forward and the flatbed covered over.
