2 Relay for Life UF CKI s Relay for Life, team raised $ this year with a total of 36 members participating. Relay for Life co-chairs Diamond Pichardo and Tori Kiepke were also CKI s team captains. I really loved every part. But if I had to choose, it would be dancing at the end with the people who stayed the whole night with me. Diamond said. While she had been at Relay at her high school before, this was her first experience at UF Relay. At my high school, relay ended at midnight so it was fun staying all night for the first time, even though we got rained out at the end, Diamond said. Circle of life bracelets and canvases were sold at the CKI tent. Those who purchased the bracelets added a new bead for each lap. Diamond pointed out the participation of Jose Pavon for helping set up, Kenny Do for taking initiative and creating the amazing banner, and Max Dunevitz for all of his hard work preparing for the event. Pie the Eboard Fundraising chair Amy Chang coordinated our annual Pie the Eboard event, where both the current and former executive board had the right to pie their face auctioned off. Here were the results: Presidential pieing. In what might become a UF CKI tradition, Chizoba Ezenwa pied new President Ravi Kohli. Erica Riano paid $5 to pie Melissa Betancourt, former editor. Jose Pavon paid $25 to pie Ravi Kohli, former treasurer, and Erica Riano, secretary. Kenny Do paid $20 to pie Adam Bentley, former secretary. Chizzy paid $20 to pie former vice president Brittany Munyer and president Ravi Kohli. Brittany paid $5 to pie Chizoba Ezenwa, former president. AJ Hochsztein paid $7 to pie Orinda Hobson, treasurer, and Nicole Dan, editor. James-Bond Nguyen paid $15 to pie Kenny Do, vice president. The event raised $101. 2
3 UF CKI on the District Board Lieutenant Governor Diamond Pichardo stands with the three new district board members from UF CKI. Left to right: Brittany Munyer (programming of conventions), Diamond Pichardo, Ella Hoogenboozem (service), and Monica Garrett-Moore (established club development). Member Spotlight Madison Tonic Year: First Major: Animal Science Favorite tenet: Service, that s why I joined CKI in the first place, to help out in any way I could Favorite event: Give Kids the World How she found out about CKI: My friend Niko 3
4 Upcoming Events Key Club Pool Party There will be a pool party at Key Club DCON on April 30th at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort from 12:30 to Future Gators. Erica Riano and Tiffany Calas met Brooke Abzug at the Key Club Pool Party last year. When she came to UF, she joined CKI and later became Special Projects Chair. 3:30 p.m. This will serve to introduce high schoolers to the next level of the Kiwanis Family, and it s a great time to make some new friends to recruit for UF CKI. You can also meet some friends from the district, since members from all over Florida are coming. Last year Tiffany Calas and Erica Riano met Brooke Abzug at the pool party. I really enjoyed meeting CKIers as a Key Clubber because of the fun and welcoming atmosphere. Everyone was always smiling, we were poolside, and the radio was blasting music, Brooke said. I felt important knowing that college students took time out of their day and traveled to Orlando just to meet people like me. If you will need to stay overnight, arrangements can be made by contacting Governor Jackie Aranibar at governor@floridacirclek.org. Rides will be arranged. Contact Lieutenant Governor Diamond Pichardo if you have any other questions. When? Thursday, April 24 at 6:45 p.m. Where? The Paramount Plaza Hotel and Suites Dress code: Semi formal How much? Banquet tickets are free for members who were active both semesters, $10 for members who were active in spring, and $15 for anyone else. 4
5 District Convention This year the Florida district had their annual convention in Tampa, where the district board was retired and the new board was elected. There were also service events and bonding opportunities with other clubs. UF CKI s Awards: Club T-Shirt: 2nd Place Scrapbook: 2nd Place Single Service: 2nd Place Kiwanis Family Relations: 2nd Place Outstanding Member: Erica Riano Distinguished President: Chizoba Ezenwa Distinguished Vice-President: Brittany Munyer Distinguished Secretary: Adam Bentley Distinguished Treasurer: Ravi Kohli Distinguished Editor: Melissa Betancourt Total Club Achievement: 2nd Place Trivia The first person to answer these questions correctly and send the answers to Nicole Dan on Facebook or them to ndan@ufl.edu will get a prize at banquet! 1) Who spent the most at the Pie the Eboard fundraiser? 2) When is the end of the year banquet? 3) How much money was raised at Relay for Life? 4) How did Madison hear about CKI? 5
