May 18: (Berlin) Guided tour of the Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament, in the morning Stop-over at the Memorial to the Rosenstraße Protest - Block of Women with your coordinator Visit to an organization promoting the rights and equality of transgender in the afternoon, such as DGTI (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Transidentität und Intersexualität) or to TGEU (Transgender Europe), to learn about the organization, their tasks, and role in the society Day 4 >> Sat. May 19: (Berlin) Guided tour of the Berlin Wall Memorial in the morning to get an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s Guided walking tour of Berlin focusing on homosexuality in the early afternoon. During the tour you will learn about the history and present situation of the queer community in the German capital. Guided tour of the Schwules Museum Berlin in the late afternoon, one of the world's largest and most significant institutions for archiving, researching and communicating the history and culture of LGBTIQ. You may be interested in traveling to Potsdam and explore Sanssouci Palace to learn about the former summer palace of Frederick the Great. Day 6 >> Mon. May 21: (Berlin) - National holiday in Germany - Pentecost observed Visit to ReachOut in the morning (to be confirmed), a counselling center for victims of rightwing extremist, racist or anti-semitic violence in Berlin Guided tour of the German Resistance Memorial Center in the afternoon, which shows how individuals and groups took action against the National Socialist dictatorship Day 7 >> Tues. May 22: (Berlin - Nuremberg) Public transportation during the morning Visit to LesMigraS in Berlin in the morning (to be confirmed). Since the Middle Ages its silhouette has represented the power and importance of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and the outstanding role of the imperial city of Nuremberg. May 24: (Nuremberg) Public transportation pass for today Guided tour of the Documentation Center Party Rally Grounds in the morning, where the Nazis created a link between the Nazi movement and Nuremberg s glorious past as a Free City of the Empire and venue for the Imperial Diets in the Middle Ages Free afternoon to explore the city further on your own Time for an informal class session at the breakfast area of the hotel Day 10 >> Fri. May 26: (Dachau - Munich) Half-day seminar at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site in the morning, incl. a preparatory exercise, a guided tour around the grounds of the memorial site, and a follow-up exercise. The former concentration camp in Dachau was the first regular concentration camp established by the National Socialist (Nazi) government. Free afternoon for your own explorations of the Bavarian capital Day 12 >> Sun. May 27: (Munich) Free day to explore Munich and its surroundings on your own. Optional: Day excursion to the famous Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace (public bus tour; incl. admission tickets) can be arranged at additional costs. Hidden in the seclusion of the mountains King Ludwig II built two of his dream castles. This excursion shows you two extraordinary castles, both testifying to the vision of Bavaria s fairytale king. A short shopping stop in Oberammergau, approx. 4 hours time to visit Neuschwanstein and for lunch at your own expense and a comprehensive visit to Linderhof Palace with its fantastic grotto & moorish pavillon, are part of the tour. May 28: (Munich) Guided tour of the permanent exhibition of the White Rose Foundation at the Ludwig-Maximilians- University in Munich in the morning, followed by a short tour of the university (to be confirmed). Free afternoon to explore the city further at your own pace and to have some lunch on your own before you return to Salzburg in the afternoon Day 16 >> Thurs. May 31: (Salzburg) Transportation by private bus to the starting point for your walking tour and return Guided hiking tour of the Berchtesgadener area during the day (approx. 4-5 hours), to explore and enjoy its scenic surroundings (exact route to be discussed in conjunction with the faculty leader, depending on the hiking experience and fitness level of the students) Farewell dinner at a restaurant in Salzburg to wrap up your European experience Day 17 >> Fri. June 1: (Salzburg) Public transportation pass for Salzburg for today Visit to a social justice organization in the morning, e.g. to Salzburg Ethik Initiative or to the Östrreichische Gewerkschaftsbund (ÖGB), to get an insight into the organization and their fight for social justice in Austria Free afternoon for final discussions, further sightseeing, and to get ready for tomorrow s journey Page 7
