2 YOUNG AMBASSADORS+ As a Young Ambassador you are part of an incredible worldwide network of inspirational young people bonded by a unique experience and equipped with the tools to make an impact in your local community. The Young Ambassadors+ initiative is the next chapter in your story as an agent of change for Olympism, and provides you with the platform to turn your passion for sport into concrete actions and to stay connected with other YAs and the IOC. The launch of YA+ in 2015 proved to us what we had known all along as empowered young leaders you have the capability to positively impact your communities and make a real difference. Those active YA+ members impressed us with their tenacity, creativity and passion as they strove to seize the opportunity to lead by example and leverage the power of sport for a better world. Now you have seen what can be achieved by your fellow YA alumni, we are giving you another chance to realise your goals and achieve. So, what are you waiting for? 3 What the YA+ agents have to say... The YA + is very important to me. It has provided me with a great tool to enhance my activities and deliver a much deeper change in Brazil and also in my life. 4 YA+ is separated into three levels to reflect the varying levels of commitment proposed. As a YA you can choose which levels you want to participate in; however, we would encourage all YAs to sign up to Bronze at a minimum. Bronze Connect Silver Engage

5 YA+ Bronze is the first step and allows you to stay connected with the IOC and other YAs. The focus of the level is Connection. Bronze Connect Bronze ivation Network of Young Ambassadors An online database allowing all former YAs to keep in touch and connect after Games time. Quarterly Newsletter Updates on YA activities, including personal and professional achievements, news stories and upcoming opportunities, including job postings and calls for action from the Olympic family, IFs and NOCs and YA network.

6 YA+ Silver moves your involvement to the next step by allowing you to become more active in various projects proposed on a monthly basis. The theme of the level is Engagement. Silver Engage Silver ivation Monthly Engagement Tasks These tasks include helping to spread the reach of various Olympic campaigns and messages via social media activation, engaging with local youth communities, personal development projects and promoting IOC resources such as our Complete, Learn & Share platform, the Athletes Hub and the Athlete Learning Gateway. Special Campaigns ively participate in special events such as the Olympic Day or the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development by supporting activation planned by your NOC and promoting via your social media platforms and within your networks. Public Speaking Opportunities The most active and engaged YA+ Silver members may receive invitations to speak about their role as young leaders and their own experiences of the positive power of sport at various forums or conferences around the world.

7 ivation YA+ represents the optimum participation and offers a unique opportunity for you to dream, create and achieve. Participants propose a project within the framework of four themes and submit it for grant support from the IOC. Submissions include thorough documentation of the project from start to finish, budget information and a plan for the continuation and/or replicability of the project. The IOC will review all submissions individually based on a structured set of criteria and approve as many projects as possible within a set budget. Project Focus The notions of youth, sport and education must be central in all projects submitted by Young Ambassadors. In other words, all projects must focus on delivering benefits to and possibly through youth, with sport as the main vehicle and enabler. Voluntary Basis It is important to keep in mind the voluntary nature of the projects submitted. The seed funding available for the selected projects is not available to cover a form of salary but must be targeted at project expenditures. Project Themes Your project should fit into one of the four themes below. Healthy and ive Living Inclusion Peace and Development Sustainability

8 Healthy and ive Living Inclusion The Healthy and ive Living theme centres on making young people more physically active and healthy. Projects within this theme should focus on enhanced access to physical activity and sport, better access to sports facilities and activities, or education on relevant content such as nutrition or other healthy lifestyle considerations. For example, projects may tackle the following challenges: Promoting regular physical activity and sport among young inactive people Inclusion is defined as involving someone in a greater group. Projects within this theme should focus on particular pockets of population with the end goal of including them in a greater group. These projects should evaluate a social situation and identify opportunities and ideas for inclusive and peaceful ways of living together. Common populations that are often targeted for inclusive projects include, but are not limited to: Females LGBT communities Increasing education about healthy lifestyles and choices, including physical fitness, nutrition, fighting addictions, etc. Reducing physical or cultural barriers to physical activity and sport Ethnic minority groups Underprivileged groups (socio-economic status) People with limited physical or intellectual abilities

9 Peace and Development Sustainability Sport has the ability to bridge the gaps that divide people. This bridge is a powerful tool that can create peace and facilitate conflict resolution. Projects within this theme should work to leverage sport to pacify conflicting parties and to facilitate development programmes which empower local communities. Projects may include, but are not limited to: Promoting social and ethnic integration Combatting violence, racism or inequalities Using dialogue techniques to tackle conflicts and violence Empowering local communities with new business opportunities Environmental sustainability involves making decisions and taking action that are in the interests of protecting the biosphere, with particular emphasis on preserving the capability of the environment to support human life. Projects within this theme should focus on environmental protection as a crucial issue that affects us all, with sport playing an important role in raising awareness and setting an example. Projects may include, but are not limited to: Promoting biodiversity Fighting pollution Enhancing environmental awareness and stewardship Addressing global warming

10 PROJECT Try the Sport A public event held in a shopping centre offering local youth the chance to have a go at ice hockey, to meet players from the national team and to learn about the values of sport and the YOG. 11 PROJECT Learn & Share Day Young athletes from the national federations were invited to experience an educational day based on the themes of the Learn & Share programme and featuring sessions on nutrition, respect and anti-doping. 12 PROJECT Hope Sports Leveraging sport to make a positive difference in a community, a group of YOG ski and snowboard athletes travelled to Mexico to help build a home for a family in need. 13 PROJECT #OlympicLab Delivered in collaboration with the NOC, this series of school-based workshops aims to introduce students to the values of sport via practical workshops involving Olympians past and present. 14 PROJECT Ski na Rua An initiative aimed at increasing female participation to a social project using roller-skiing to get young people off the streets and educate them on health and nutrition. 16 Project Requirements and Guidelines Timeline: 30 November January 2017 January 2017 Registration Deadline to register your interest using the YA+ Interest Form The IOC will notify the respective NOCs as and when interest forms are received. You should not go directly to your NOC until this process is completed. Application Deadline to submit your YA+ project proposal for approval Approval Projects reviewed and selected by the IOC Requirements and Guidelines: Projects should respect the following requirements and guidelines: Projects must clearly fit into one of the four YA+ themes and must have a clear focus on sport and youth. Projects must be well-defined and positioned so as to allow for proper documentation, reporting and promotion. Projects must be supported by the YA s respective NOC and a letter of support must be included in the application. YAs can apply for seed funding of up to CHF 5,000. Seed money should not be used to cover salaries. This is a volunteer project. Young Ambassadors may jointly submit a project. The IOC encourages YAs to work together to make a larger impact. All project applications will be reviewed by an internal committee at the IOC. Incomplete applications will not be considered. YAs with approved projects will be required to submit photos, video, and other media communications for promotion within the IOC. YAs with approved projects will be required to submit progress reports and a final report within specific timelines. Seed funding will be granted to the NOC for distribution to the YA for project expenses. However, ownership of the project should remain with the YA. All funds must be used within 12 months of the approval date.
