2 JUDO Tokyo 1964 Judo (M) Barcelona 1992 Judo (M) London 2012 Judo (M) Rio 2016 Judo (W) INTRODUCTION Judo made its first appearance on the Olympic programme at the Games of the XVIII Olympiad in Tokyo in It was then absent from the Games in Mexico City in 1968, only to return for the Games in Munich in 1972 and has been on the Olympic programme ever since. Women s judo appeared as a demonstration sport at the Games in Seoul in 1988 and joined the Olympic programme for the Games of the XXV Olympiad in Barcelona in A mixed team event will be included for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo in KEY STAGES Entry Mexico City 1968 Munich 1972 Women s inclusion Mixed team event 1960: At the 58 th IOC Session held in Rome in August, it was decided to recognise the International Judo Federation and to integrate this sport into the programme of the Games of the XVIII Olympiad in Tokyo in : At the 61 st IOC Session held in Baden-Baden in October, it was recalled that a decision had been taken in 1962 (at the 60 th Session in Moscow) to accept a maximum of 18 sports on the 1968 programme. A vote was held to eliminate certain sports, and this included judo. 1965: At the 64 th IOC Session held in Madrid in October, it was decided to increase the number of sports on the programme to 21 for the Games of the XX Olympiad in Munich in Judo was on this new list. 1985: At the 90 th IOC Session held in Berlin in June, it was decided to include women s judo on the programme of the Games of the XXV Olympiad in Barcelona in 1992, subject to certain pending issues being settled by the Federation. 2017: A decision was taken during the IOC Executive Board meeting held in Lausanne in June to include a mixed team event at Tokyo in The Olympic Studies Centre studies.centre@olympic.org 2
