1 TRAVEL OPTIONS Athletes selected in the 2018 World U20 Team in individual events, have the two tour options. Both travel paths will be staffed with Team medical and management. Arrival dates are not flexible, athletes must arrive on one of these waves. Relay only runners will all travel via option 2. 2 PRE-CHAMPIONSHIPS COMPETITION ARRANGEMENTS MANNHEIM U20 GALA (23-24 JUNE) Individual athletes who chose to travel via Option 1, will have the opportunity to compete in the Mannheim U20 Gala. This is a very high standard competition, which has produced countless PBs and several Australian U20 records. These carnivals are split up and held all over Finland. As there is some travel involved to attend these competitions, overnight stays will be arranged where necessary. Alternatively, athletes may stay at our training base in Pajulahti and forgo the competition opportunity. EVENT GROUP LOCATION TRAVEL (APPROX. 3 WOMEN MEN 2018 IAAF WORLD U20 CHAMPIONSHIPS TRAVEL HOME Athletes will travel back to Australia in three groups. Each group will have a team official accompanying them. Athletes will leave Tampere once the final of their event and medal presentation has been completed, unless they are involved in relays. Athletes who finish day 1, 2, or 3 will depart on Friday 13 July Athletes who finish day 4 will depart on Saturday 14 July Athletes who finish day 5 or 6 will depart on Monday 16 July All flights will be directly to Australia. There will be no additional team travel or sightseeing after the competition. Athletes who choose to travel home separately from the team will be dismissed into parental care once the athlete has finished competing. 4 TEAM LEVY There is a levy associated with the World U20 team: OPTION 1 (Mannheim & Finland) OPTION 2 (Finland only, includes all relay only athletes) INC. RETURN FLIGHT INC. ONE WAY FLIGHT $4000* $3000* $3400* $2400* *Estimated levy Please note: this levy does not exclusively cover the flight expense. The levy covers many costs associated with the Team travel overseas including: domestic & international flights, accommodation, all meals, ground transport, uniform, competition entry fees, pre-departure camp. Athletes will need to let Athletics Australia know the following by Monday 16 April: 1. Departure date (20 June or 27 June) AND 2. Return travel plans a. Return flight home with the Team (1 st, 2 nd or 3 rd wave depending on event) b. Return flight home with different date and/or location (eg. London, 31 July) c. Do not require flight home (reduced levy) PRE DEPARTURE CAMP In addition to the above travel schedule, all athletes selected in the 2018 World U20 Team are required to make themselves available for a compulsory pre departure camp from Wednesday 6 June Sunday 10 June 2018 in Townsville, QLD. All athletes will have a competition opportunity whilst in Townsville (ANQ All Comers & Student Games). The cost of this camp is covered in the levy above. Selected athletes will receive a formal letter of selection from Athletics Australia to assist with fundraising.

5 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q: What if my coach and I decide not to compete in the Finnish Event Carnivals? A: No problem, we expect to have several athletes that will not compete in the Finnish Event Carnivals for various reasons. Those who are not competing will stay at Pajulahti with some medical, management and coaching staff. Q: Should I bring my own implements? A: Yes. All throwers, pole vaulters and multi-eventers should bring their own implements. Note: Athletes must travel home with the implements they bring overseas. Q: What airline are we flying? A: Long-haul flights will be with Etihad Airlines. Q: How many pieces of checked baggage will I have? A: All athletes will have one piece of checked luggage (23kg). Any overweight baggage charges will be at the expense of the athlete; therefore, we recommend athletes aim to have no more than 17kg when departing Australia. Athletes bringing implements, will have two pieces of checked baggage. Q: Should I apply (or renew) my passport now, or wait until I am selected? A: We strongly advise all prospective team members to ensure they have a current passport at the time of selection (that does not expire anytime in 2018). Your travel bookings and IAAF entry require your current passport details, therefore having a passport at the time of selection speeds up this process. Q: I am on the first departure wave, how can I stay and watch the rest of my teammates? A: If you are scheduled to depart on the 1 st or 2 nd wave, you may be dismissed into parental care in Tampere when your wave is scheduled to depart. Once you are signed out, you are welcome to watch and sight-see at your leisure with no team obligations. Q: My parents cannot make it to Tampere, but I m over 18, can I be dismissed on my own? A: Athletes over the age of 18 may be dismissed on their own (or with another family), providing this is arranged with your parent/guardian and AA. Q: I want to go on holidays after World U20s, can you book me a later flight home? A: Yes. We are happy to book your return flight at a later date, or from a different city (providing Etihad fly from that city), instead of the flight home with the team. Please note AA will need to know travel plans Monday 16 April as this is our deadline with the airline. Changes after this date will incur additional fees. Q: When is the levy due? A: The levy will be due on Monday 18 June, the day after the pre departure period closes.
