View / Download 2011 Event Preview - Coming Soon... The 2011 Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge is hosted by Colonial Forge High School. We are proud to partner with the United States Marine Corps to present this top-notch tournament. History The Ultimate Challenge was created to provide an opportunity for top teams from Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic to participate in a highly competitive, single-day tournament. The Ultimate Challenge often draws state contenders from Virginia A, AA, and AAA schools along with top teams from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware. Often, match-ups feature prequels for key

2 matches between regional and state wrestlers and pit state champions against other state champions and is a favorite venue for college scouts to assess a variety of wrestlers. The United States Marine Corps became a partner in the Ultimate Challenge in The Marines affiliation with wrestling is a logical partnership because the programs share several attributes. Whether a Marine or a wrestler, an individual s drive, determination, perseverance, and self-discipline are traits that are needed to achieve individual and collective success. As part of the wrestling community, we expect selfless dedication to our sport, much in the same way the Marines expect the same in defense of our country and our way of life. The Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge coordinators are proud to have the United States Marine Corps as a partner in this event Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge Participating Teams The 2011 Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge features former, reigning, and potential state wrestling champions from Virginia and Maryland. The participating teams include: Brooke Point Black Hawks Chantilly Chargers Frank W. Cox Falcons Hanover Hawks Mount Saint Joseph Gaels (MD) Poquoson Caravel Academy (DE) Colonial Forge Eagles Great Bridge Wildcats James River Rapids New Kent Western Branch Format The Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge is an individual tournament with team scoring. Wrestlers are seeded and divided into two pools. Based on participating coaches input using season record, winning percentage, season wins, and results of head-to-head match-ups, wrestlers are placed in the number 1 through 10 seeded position. Pool A includes the number 1, 4, 5, 8, and 9 seeds; Pool B has the 2, 3, 6, 7, and 10 seeds. Wrestling occurs on 5 mats for the preponderance of the day. Each wrestler can expect 1 BYE round prior to the placement round. See the schedule below for more details.

3 Each wrestler will wrestle other wrestlers in his/her pool to determine pool standings. Pool A number 1 will be pitted against Pool B number 1, Pool A number 2 faces Pool B number 2, and so on during the final placement rounds. Assuming each pool is full, all wrestlers should wrestle five times during the tournament. The results of individual matches determine team scoring. Schedule The tentative schedule of events follows and is dependent on the length of each round. 4 Admission Single Session (Saturday pre-break, or Saturday post-break): $7.00 All Sessions: $12.00 Awards Individual and team awards will be presented following the finals. Individual awards include: Individual Medals: Individual custom medals will be awarded to 1 st through 6 th place finishers in each weight class. Individual medals will be awarded following the championship match at the next higher weight class (e.g., 103 lbs. medals are awarded following the 112 lbs. championship match, etc.) Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge Coins: Finalists will be awarded custom made challenge coins to commemorate their tournament achievement. The coins will be presented on the mat during introductions to the finalists match-ups. Marine Corps Honor, Courage, and Commitment Award for Outstanding Wrestling: Participating coaches will vote to determine recipients of the lower ( ), middle ( ), and upper ( ) weight trophies. The trophies will be awarded following the conclusion of finalist matches. Most Pins, Least Time: A trophy will be awarded to the wrestler who achieves the most pins in the least time during the tournament. This award will be presented following the conclusion of the finalist matches. Team awards include: Customized Trophies: Marine Corps Ultimate Challenge trophies will be presented to the tournament champion and 2 nd and 3 rd place teams at the conclusion of the awards presentation. Championship Team Medals: Each of the 14 members of the championship team will receive a team medal for his/her participation in the team s victory.
