2 Firearms safety is YOUR responsibility! Never completely trust any safety mechanism. No safety mechanism is a substitute for proper weapon handling. Any safety mechanism can break down and malfunction. YOU, AND YOU ALONE, ARE THE ULTIMATE SAFETY MECHANISM!

3 Weapons safety cont. When loading and unloading your weapon always keep it pointed in a safe direction. (Watch that muzzle!) Be aware of what is behind that wall, above that ceiling, or below that floor you are standing on. (Are your kids on the other side!) A safe direction is relative to where you are standing at that point in time! Bullets will go through walls, ceilings, & floors!! Always read the owner s manual.

4 The Ten Commandments of Firearm Safety. 1. ALWAYS treat every gun as if it were loaded. 2. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. 3. ALWAYS keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. 4. ALWAYS keep your gun unloaded until ready for duty. (Or loaded and properly secured via safe, trigger lock, ect.) 5. ALWAYS be sure the gun is safe to operate and the barrel is clear of any obstructions.

5 Ten Commandments of Firearms Safety cont. 6. ALWAYS use the proper, factory-made ammunition for your particular gun. 7. ALWAYS know your target and beyond. 8. ALWAYS wear ear and eye protection when shooting. 9. NEVER use alcohol or drugs before or during firearms handling. 10. ALWAYS store firearms so they are secure and not accessible to unauthorized persons. (Especially children!!)

9 Field Strip NEVER disassemble your duty pistol (or any dept. weapon) further than a field strip! Doing so will void the factory warranty and/or result in departmental charges against you! DO NOT remove the grips!

10 User Maintenance Always clean and lube your pistol after firing, exposure to moisture, dirt or chemicals, and after prolonged storage. Only use brass or bronze bore brushes. Only insert the bore brush from the chamber end. Should be done a min. of 5 times. Lube all metal parts with a very light coat of gun oil excluding the magazines.

Do Clean your pistol after every firing session. Lightly lube all metal surfaces. Clean your weapon in a DISTRACTION FREE environment. Inspect your ammo before loading.

It is not uncommon to find cartridges that have no primers and/or upside down primers in a new box ammo. Or the wrong caliber mixed in (.40cal in a box of.45acp).

14 Don t Over lube your weapon. Lube the inside of the magazines. Ride the slide. (except when field stripping). Drop a round into the chamber through the ejection port and release the slide. Over time it will break or crack the extractor. Continuously load and unload the same round into the chamber. Could cause bullet set back and/or primer damage that will cause a dud round when fired.
