1 SOUTH UMPQUA ROD AND GUN CLUB A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. 845 Rod and Gun Club Road Riddle, Oregon Mailing Address: P.O. Box 639 Canyonville, Oregon Range Status Phone: (541) Website: Newsletter for April 2011 NEXT GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING IS SUNDAY, April 3, 2011 at 2:00 pm AT THE CLUBHOUSE DEVELOPING A PLAN: BY: DENNIS BLANCHARD CHIEF RANGE SAFETY OFFICER, NRA INSTRUCTOR: An important aspect of mental preparedness and an effective mindset is PLANNING If you are concerned with personal protection, you must develop an individual plan to meet your specific needs. Such a plan should take into consideration your personal characteristics, habits, skills and physical capabilities and limitations, as well as the characteristics of your defensive environment (home or business). The most important part of any individualized personal protection plan comprises those steps to avoid having to use deadly force. For example, the use of deadbolt locks, strategically placed outdoor lighting may help a homeowner avoid using deadly force by deterring a burglar. Avoiding a violent confrontation by flight, evasion, deterrence or any other method that can be safely used is always preferable to employing deadly force. The personal protection plan must offer sufficient flexibility to allow you to make appropriate responses to a wide range of situations. This may involve a series of escalating responses that correspond to different types and levels of threat. Practice your using surprise drills, just like you and your family practice the fire evacuation plan you ve established for your home. Frequently review your plan in light of changes in individual characteristics or abilities, the defensive environment, or the nature of the threat (s) likely to be encountered. Next time we will talk about VISUALIZATION. thank you for your time. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY. 1

2 SAWDUST JUBILEE TO BE HELD IN RIDDLE ON JULY 3RD & 4TH, 2011: The South Umpqua Rod & Gun Club will have a booth at the Sawdust Jubilee event in Riddle. The profits from the 22/22 mag Pistol raffle & the Ping-Pong toss, after all costs, will be split 50/50 with the Riddle Car Show. We will need volunteers for our booth, if you are interested, please call Calvin at and have him put you on the schedule. We will open at 9 am and close at 5 pm on Saturday, July 3rd; and open at 9 am and close at 4 pm on Sunday, July 4th. Raffle drawing will be at Riddle Fire Station at 3:30 pm on Sunday July 4th. FUND RAISER FOR INSTALLING PROPOSED DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS: The Executive Board has approved the option to Install a French Drain System cost: $3, The Board also adopted a pay as you go policy, staying debt free on projects. The keyword is FUNDRAISER, with any money raised for a project to only go toward that particular project. The President is to appoint a Fund Raiser Committee to come up with Fund Raiser Plans, and Ideas to raise the $3,906 dollars needed. We need some Volunteers for this committee, please contact Calvin at THE INITIAL FUND RAISER IS A MARLIN STAINLESS STEEL RIFLE: The first Fundraiser will be for a Stainless Steel Marlin lever action Rifle. Raffle Tickets are included in this Newsletter to every member during the month of April, with the drawing to be held on August 28th at 4:00 pm at Canyonville Pioneer Days. Since this is a Fundraiser for the Drainage Improvements, we are asking each member to try and sell and/or buy tickets for this raffle. This is only a way to raise funds, and is not mandatory or required by any member. The ticket prices are: 1 ticket -$5; 3 tickets - $10; or 7 tickets - $20. (See page 6) Since the Drainage Improvements will benefit all three ranges, it will in turn be a benefit to the membership and our Club shooting events, particularly during the winter months when trying to change targets on the Range. CANYONVILLE PIONEER DAYS - AUGUST 26, 27 & 28TH: The Club will have a booth at this community event and will have Membership and Club Flyers along with our Raffle of the Marlin which will be drawn on Sunday at 4:00 pm. We will also have another Rifle to raffle for the Roseburg Gun Show in September, which will be a Henry similar to the Golden Boy 22 Rifle that we raffled at last September s Gun Show. We will need volunteers for our booth at this event, please call Calvin at to schedule the date & time you are available. REMOVE & REPLACING THE EXISTING PISTOL STRUCTURE BUILDING: The Board has elected to construct a new Shooting Structure in front of present location which is opposite the 100 yd. Range Structure. This Building would be at ground level and be ADA compliant, and make both the 100 yd. and 50 yd. Ranges accessible for the Handicapped. We also will be constructing 4 wide ADA walks to both the 100 & 50 yd. ranges. A New Concrete Ramp together with wooden Exterior Steps from the Clubhouse door to serve the lower 50 yd. range/patio areas are being built. We will also be installing railings along the Club walkway to the Restrooms, again for wheelchair access. The Upper Pistol Area is on hold, awaiting further funding. The Board was shown a Pistol Enclosure recently constructed at Roseburg Gun Club which could be modified for future development of our upper pistol range, and consideration in our Master Plan. 2
