2 SMPC Range Commands Internal Club Matches Only All SMPC members (Novices, Trainees and Full Members) are required to be familiar with the clubs standard range commands. 1 PREPARATION TIME Affix target and send downrange, prepare required cartridges Uncase pistol with muzzle pointing down range Keep finger outside trigger guard, make pistol safe: Auto: Remove magazine, lock slide back, check chamber and magazine empty, then place on bench Revolver: Open cylinder/gate, check all chambers are empty, then place on bench 2 LOAD Keep finger outside trigger guard Keep pistol pointing down range Auto: Load magazine and insert in pistol Revolver: Load cylinder and close gate 3 ARE YOU READY? Auto: If ready, drop slide Revolver: If ready, cock hammer If NOT ready, hold out non-shooting hand and call out Not Ready Keep pistol pointing down range 4 START Commence shooting (as per the course of fire for the match / exercise) Keep pistol pointing down range 5 STOP Stop shooting immediately Keep finger outside of trigger guard Keep pistol pointing down range 6 UNLOAD Keep finger outside of trigger guard Keep pistol pointing down range, make pistol safe: Auto: Remove magazine, clear chamber of any live rounds, lock slide back and place pistol on bench pointing downrange, remove any live rounds from magazine (await RSO inspection) Revolver: Open gate/cylinder, remove all live rounds from all chambers, place revolver on bench pointing downrange (await RSO inspection)
3 Bullseye Competitors are required to engage a paper target single-handed at 25m under varying time restrictions. This match requires you to engage a precision paper target at 25m. The match is conducted over 3 stages. The first stage requires you to fire 10 rounds in 10 minutes, a reload in your own time will be required, this is conducted twice. The second stage requires you to fire 5 rounds in 20 seconds, which is conducted 4 times. The third stage requires you to fire 5 rounds in 10 seconds, which is again conducted 4 times. All shooting must be conducted single handed only. Open or optical sights are allowed and are scored separately. 4 Rimfire Silhouettes Competitors are required to knock over a total of 40 various sized steel silhouette targets set at 10m, 15m, 20m and 25m under time restrictions. This match requires you to engage multiple steel targets over different ranges which must be knocked over to count for score. The match is conducted over 2 stages. Stage 1 will involve you shooting 5 steel silhouettes in 40 secs, this is done at 10m (chicken targets), 15m (pig targets), 20m (turkey targets) and 25m (ram targets). Stage 2 will be a repeat of stage 1. No reloads are permitted. 5 Barricades Competitors are required to engage a paper target at 25m from the left and right side of a fixed barricade, using strong and weak hands, under time restrictions. This match requires you to engage 2 paper Service targets at 25m. The match is conducted over 2 stages, with 3 sets per stage. The first set requires you to fire 6 rounds from the right side of the barricade two handed but gripping the pistol with your right hand, in 15 seconds. The second set requires you to fire 6 rounds from the left side of the barricade two handed but gripping the pistol with your left hand, again in 15 seconds. The third set involves the same shooting from the right / left sides of the barricade but you are required to shoot both within 2 minutes, performing a reload in between. Stage 2 will be identical to stage 1. Spare magazines and speedloaders are permitted. 6 Deliberately Quick Competitors are required to engage a paper target at 10m and 25m under time restrictions. This match requires you to engage a precision paper target at 10m and then 25m. The first stage requires you to fire 6 rounds in 20 seconds at a range of 10m, which is repeated twice. The second stage requires you to fire 6 rounds in 20 seconds but this time at 25m, again repeated twice. 7 Precision Pistol Competitors are required to engage a paper target at 25m without time restriction. This untimed match requires you to engage a single precision paper target at 25m and is suitable for members not yet ready for more advanced competition. A warm up is permitted. Once you are ready, you must commence with a new or completely patched target. Using one or two hands, fire 10 rounds with the target set at 25m in your own time. When finished, signal for an RSO to clear your pistol. Once cleared by the RSO, proceed to score your target and submit your score. This match requires you to engage a precision paper target at 25m, and can be shot with either a centrefire or rimfire pistol. The match is conducted over 2 stages. The first stage (called precision) requires you to fire 5 rounds in 300 seconds, this is conducted 4 times. The second stage (called dueling) requires you to fire 1 round in 3 seconds at a turning target 5 times, this is conducted 4 times. All shooting must be conducted single handed only. A non-scoring sighting series will be conducted as a warm up before each stage. 11 I.P.S.C. Competitors are required to draw from the holster and move through a range of obstacles while engaging multiple paper and steel targets under time restrictions. Visit the website for more information. This match requires you to engage a range of stationary and moving targets where there is no fixed course of fire. Instead, at each match the RSO will create 4 unique stages (layouts of targets, barriers, obstacles and penalties) to create a new shooting challenge you must solve both accurately and rapidly. The stage layout and rules will be disclosed by the RSO just prior to commencement. Drawing from the holster, movement and speed reloads are required. Score is a function of both accuracy and time. All competitors MUST hold an IPSC holster accreditation card. 12 S.A.S.A. Competitors are required to draw from the holster and move through a range of obstacles while engaging multiple steel targets set on an Old-West themed stage. Visit the website sasa.qir.com.au for more information. This match requires you to engage a range of steel targets where there is no fixed course of fire. Instead, at each match the RSO will create 3 unique stages (layouts of targets, barriers, props and penalties) to create a new shooting challenge you must solve both accurately and rapidly. The stage layout and rules will be disclosed by the RSO just prior to commencement. 2 revolvers, a rifle and a shotgun are used. Drawing from the holster, movement and speed reloads are required and dressing in a cowboy-era costume is encouraged. Score is a function of both accuracy and time. The match is typically shot from holsters (permitted ONLY for holders of a SASA holster accreditation card), or alternatively, can be shot with firearms staged from the bench. 15 Practice - Metal Silhouette Competitors have the opportunity to practice engaging paper versions of Metallic Silhouette targets, without time restrictions. This training event has no set timings or course of fire, it is designed to allow shooters to practice components of the Handgun Metallic Silhouette match (using paper versions of full-size steel silhouette targets) to better prepare them for external competition. Chicken, Pig, Turkey or Ram targets are engaged at 50m. High-calibre handguns are permitted ONLY for holders of a commissioners permit. 16 Practice - IPSC Competitors have the opportunity to practice drawing from the holster and engaging either paper or steel targets, without time restrictions. This training event has no set timings or course of fire, it is designed to allow shooters to practice components of the IPSC match (shooting paper or steel targets, drawing from the holster, moving and transitioning etc) to better prepare them for competition. This is the only event, outside of formal competitions, where accredited members can practice drawing from the holster.
