2 2017 Dates for 3D ARCHERY SHOOTS Mar 26 Apr 23 Jul 23 Aug 27 Sep 24 (deer classic give away) All shoots will start at 8am. Last shooters MUST be on the course by 2pm. This is, of course, weather permitting. If you would like to volunteer your time, archery always needs people to help set up and tear down targets. Usually we do set up on Saturday before the shoot - around 9am. This is normally a 3-4 hour process, depending on the number of volunteers. Tear down typically takes 1-2 hours. New shooters are always welcome! Come out and join us for a walk through the woods. If you have any questions about a shoot, want to volunteer your time, or deviations due to circumstances beyond my control, please contact me. Tom Nottingham (cell) ACTION PISTOL will be on the 2 nd and 4 th Fridays at 5pm, starting April 21. Come join an exciting shooting experience on our newest range! Action Pistol is not for shooting novices. It may be intense shooting against the clock. All shooters of medium experience are welcome... juniors, lady shooters, and veterans. Come have some fune and work on your precision shooting! 2213 Scatterfield Rd., Anderson Indiana Monday-Friday 10-6 Sat Closed Sunday Phone: Remember to tell 9 Guns you are a member of FCVCC when you shop. They kindly extend a discount to our members. Thanks, 9 Guns! FCVCC LADY SHOOTERS Our FCVCC LADIES PISTOL LEAGUE will start April 14 th. We shoot on the 2 nd and 4 th Thursdays, from 5-7 pm. You will need to have attended either a Ladies Day class or a Basic Pistol Course to be eligible to shoot. Safety and Competency make for a good shooter! If you know someone who would like to learn more about shooting, get over their fear of guns, or enjoy shooting in our Ladies League, we have 3 LADIES DAY CLASSES this year (and maybe even a 4 th!). Tami Bennet just had a successful class on March 18 th with 8 lady shooters. The next ones will be May 6 and September 2. Plan now to attend or volunteer! THANK YOU to all our wonderful RSOs who dedicate themselves to assisting at our Ladies Days and Ladies League! Your willingness to share your knowledge with our ladies is overwhelming. We really do appreciate you. We could not do these without you! See Aletha for more information STILLBOARD SUNDAYS Ann, Terry, and their great crew of volunteers gave us a STILLBOARD that was simply crazy this year! We regularly had over 40 shooters on STILLBOARD Sundays There was enough interest to even do youth matches! We had 8 kids shooting STILLBOARD! Our 13 +unders were using.410s and year olds used 12 gauge. Wow!. Thank you for making this such a success and so enjoyable for our shooters! HANDLOADING A class of 12 worked on.223, shotgun and handgun. Thank you to the crew who volunteered 6 weeks of their time to teach such a useful skill to our members. BLACK POWDER Our winners for 2016 were Ray Hargrove, Scott McManigal and Gerald Jones. Fred can always use set-up/tear-down help! 2

3 2017 Shooting Season - Get Ready For Fun! Now is the time to clean your equipment and reload your ammo, so you re ready for the April 2nd opening of High-Power season. Our tournaments are designed for all FCVCC members and friends to come out and enjoy a day on the range. We encourage novice and new shooters to come participate in our tournaments, too! We would like all interested members to join us on the first Sunday of the month, April - October. Our experienced shooters enjoy helping you gain the knowledge and learn the skills so you can establish your NRA shooting classification. Everyone starts out at beginner and as your averages improve, you work your way through Marksman, Sharpshooter, and Expert to Master. I like to think of it a lot like golf. You are competing against yourself to raise your average. It is great fun and good fellowship. If you re not comfortable with high power, the Small-Bore tournaments are the place for you. All it takes is a.22 caliber sporting rifle and a box of ammo to learn what shooting sports are all about. The Small-Bore matches are the fourth Sunday - May through October. Matches are shot from the prone position with a sling or you can shoot with the rifle on a rest in F-Class. We would really enjoy seeing young people come out and learn tournament shooting. With good training, youth shooters can advance rapidly and learn a sport they can participate in for life. See you on the firing line. John Sommerkamp CRSO These projects that will need volunteers: Our family picnic day in June, painting the clubhouse, restrooms at schoolhouse, flagpole brick project, 4-H days, trap days, archery set up and take down, black powder set up and take down, ladies day classes, and more to come! See Steve or Keith. Congratulations to Summit Convalescent Center for a Perfect Survey!! 3

5 Action Pistol - Shooting Procedure THE SHOOTER SHALL NOT TOUCH HIS/HER FIREARM UNTIL DIRECTED TO DO SO BY THE RSO. Range Safety Officer will call the shooter to the line and issue the following commands 1. Make ready. The RO is instructing you that you may remove your unloaded gun from your holster or case and load your gun. When your gun is loaded you should assume the start position. The starting position may be with the gun holstered and hands at or above shoulder level, or at the low ready stance. In the low ready, the gun shall be pointed down at a 45 degree angle or held close to the shooter's body. 2. Are you ready? The RO is asking you if you ready to shoot. You do not need to answer that you are ready. Unless you answer, No, the RO will continue. 3. Stand-by The RO is informing you that the start signal is about to go off. The RO will then start the timer or verbally say "GO". 4. Stop or "cease fire". The RO may issue this command at any time during the course of fire. The competitor must immediately cease firing, and wait for further instructions from the RO. 5. If you are finished, unload and show clear The RO is instructing the shooter to show that the gun is unloaded. Present your gun to the RO with the muzzle pointed downrange, magazine removed, slide locked back or held open, and the chamber empty. Revolvers must be presented with the cylinder swung out and empty. 6. If clear, hammer down, holster While continuing to point the handgun safely downrange, the shooter must perform a final safety check of the handgun as follows: a. Auto-loaders: Release the slide and pull the trigger, without touching the hammer, if any. b. Revolvers: Close the empty cylinder, without touching the hammer, if any. 7. If the gun proves to be clear, the shooter must then holster or case the gun. 8. If the gun does not prove to be clear, the RO will resume the commands from If you are finished, unload and show clear. 9. Shooter will retrieve any dropped magazines, speed loaders / moon clips, or live rounds after firing line has been cleared and returned to Cold status. 10. The following list of AP Staff will be assigned by Mike Cameron. These individuals will have access to the Action Pistol Range without my supervision. They have demonstrated advanced understanding of the above rules and execution of Running an AP firing line as an RSO. o Mike Cameron (Program Manager) (actionpistol_fcvcc@outlook.com) o Mark Hodson (mahodson@hotmail.com) Al Crandall (toolmaker.al@gmail.com) o Mark Saunders (msaunders2@ivytech.edu) Andy Grabowski (andrew.grabowski@vlw.com) o Len Pasket (len_pasket@sbcglobal.net) Bryon Austin (fcvccactionpistol@gmail.com) o Les Reynolds (lesreyn02@aol.com) George W. Identify any equipment that you want returned! 3: Record your firearm(s) serial number -at home - and be able to describe your "lost" firearm. 4: If you have left something of value at the range, please check with the club president to see if it has been turned in. 5: If you find something of value, record its description for your own info, turn it in to the RSO on duty, or contact the club president to determine how to put it in "lost and found". You can find the club president's number in the newsletter or on line. Be a good club member - use the "Golden Rule " Tom Manson, RSO 5
