4 2018 BMX Victoria Open State Championships WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR OF WARRNAMBOOL Welcome to Warrnambool, Victoria s most liveable city. On behalf of our sports-loving community welcome to all competitors and supporters to our Cosmopolitan City by the Sea. It is extremely exciting to be hosting this event for the first time at our new BMX facilities. Warrnambool means spectacular stretches of coastline with fantastic beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, seaside walking and bike trails, great food and a thriving city centre. The city has an outstanding variety of accommodation, a large range of cafes and restaurants and entertainment to suit all families. Our friendly locals will gladly assist visitors with recommendations of places to relax and enjoy. Our visitor information team can provide information on other places to visit if you have the time to do so. Hopefully the weather will be conducive to good racing, sightseeing and outdoor dining. I congratulate and thank BMX Victoria, the Warrnambool BMX Club and all sponsors for their dedication, energy and assistance in planning and delivering the Open State BMX Championships in Warrnambool. I also extend my appreciation to all of the volunteers. Without them, this event would not be possible. I hope everyone enjoys the championships and I d like to wish all competitors the best of luck. 5 BMX Victoria President s Address Cameron Murray It is my pleasure to welcome everyone to the 2018 Open Victorian BMX State Championships. We are looking forward to a high standard of BMX competition with 247 interstate entries as part of approximately 800 entries. We have riders from every state of Australia and New Zealand making the journey here to test themselves against our fantastic field of Victorian competitors. These include 103 riders from Knox and 86 riders from Sunbury. We are very proud of our State Titles which is one of the great BMX events in Australia each year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your support of BMX in Victoria. No matter your individual result, you can all be proud of your achievements that have come from your dedication to our sport. You ride at these State Championships against the best from Victoria and around Australia, enjoy every moto, every gate start, every corner and every minute of your event! On behalf of BMX Victoria and the members, I would like to thank the Warrnambool Council for their unbelievable support of the event as well as Warrnambool BMX Club as hosts of our State Championships. A big thanks to the EMG made up of people from clubs giving up their time to make this happen and a big thanks to the board of BMX Victoria and Craig Campbell for all the time he has put in for this event. We thank Planett as a Partner for the 2018 State Titles. We would also like to thank ACE Race Australia for their help with the Pro shops. Please support all of those you see here who support our sport in Victoria. As you can imagine, there is a huge amount of behind the scenes work that goes into an event of this size. As BMX Victoria is almost entirely a volunteer organisation we thank the Board of BMX Victoria and the Event Management Group for their dedication to making this event such a fantastic success. Likewise, the event itself cannot run without the sacrifice and dedication of our Officials and Volunteers. We appreciate the time you spend giving our riders the opportunity to participate at the highest level in our state. It is named after Mr. Keith Williams, a past secretary and Executive Member of BMX Victoria, for many years of outstanding contribution and dedication to BMX. The recipients are determined using the following method: 1. The Victorian rider who has achieved the maximum number of first placing in the 20 Age Class entered. To break ties 2. The Victorian rider who has achieved the maximum number of first placing in the second class entered, either Money or Cruiser Class. The first placing totalled, the winner being the rider with the highest total. To break ties 3. The Victorian rider who has achieved the maximum number of first placing in the third class entered, either Money or Cruiser Class. The first placing totalled, the winner being the rider with the highest total. To break ties 4. The Victorian rider who has achieved the maximum number of first placing's in the fourth class entered (if available). The first placing's are totalled, the winner being the rider with the highest total. To break ties if a clear recipient cannot be determined after steps 1-4 above have been taken, the following applies: The Race Director, Chief Referee and the President get together to make the final decision on: A) the difficulty of class the rider rode in; B) The number of riders in the class the riders rode in; and C) The number of wins in quarters and semi finals Page 33
