5 STATISTICS 2011 Tenth year of MotoGP at the Dutch TT has hosted a Grand Prix event in each of the previous nine years since the introduction of the four-stroke Moto- GP formula in Below is a reminder of the highlights of the previous nine MotoGP races held at the Dutch TT: 2002 Valentino Rossi (Honda) qualified on pole, set a new lap record and won the first premier-class race at during the MotoGP era. Finishing second was Alex Barros, who was still riding the 500cc two-stroke Honda and had led the race up to four laps from the end The start of the race was delayed by 30 minutes as rain started to fall just as it was about to get underway. Sete Gibernau took the lead in the early stages and went on to take a win by 10 seconds from Max Biaggi with Valentino Rossi finishing third to make it an all Honda podium As in 2002, Valentino Rossi qualified on pole, set a new lap record and won the race, but this time he was riding a Yamaha. There had been a collision when Rossi had passed race long leader Sete Gibernau on the final lap, with Gibernau coming off worst and finishing second by less than half a second Valentino Rossi won for the third time in the MotoGP class at and in the process became the first Yamaha rider ever to win five premier-class races in a row. His closest challenger was Marco Melandri having his best ever MotoGP race at that time Nicky Hayden s victory in the MotoGP race was the 200th victory in the premier-class for Honda. This was a race dominated by American riders: John Hopkins started from pole for the first time in MotoGP; then Colin Edwards led the race up to two laps from the end when he ran wide and lost the lead to Hayden. Edwards made up the gap to Hayden on the final lap to re-take the lead a couple of corners from the finish, only to crash at the final chicane. Shinya Nakano finished second to give Kawasaki their best ever dry weather result in MotoGP Valentino Rossi won the Dutch TT for the fourth time, giving Yamaha their 150th Grand Prix victory in the premier-class. This was a hard fought win after he had qualified down in 11th place on the grid and then moved his way through the field to pass Casey Stoner for the lead with just four laps remaining Casey Stoner won for the first time at, after being fastest in every practice session, qualifying on pole and setting a new lap record in the race. This was also the first victory for both Ducati and Bridgestone at Valentino Rossi won for the fifth time in the MotoGP class at, this was also was his 100th Grand Prix victory across all classes Jorge Lorenzo took the Dutch TT win from great rivals Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner. This victory made Lorenzo a winner in all three classes at. Casey Stoner revives Honda s fortunes With his victory at Silverstone, Casey Stoner moved back to the lead of the world championship classification that he lost when he was knocked off his machine at Jerez by Valentino Rossi. His results this year have set a number of new milestones for himself and Honda in MotoGP: With his victory at Silverstone, Stoner became the first Honda rider to win three successive MotoGP races since Valentino Rossi in 2003 on the 990cc machine. If Stoner wins at the Dutch TT it will be the longest sequence of successive wins by a Honda rider in MotoGP since Rossi won seven in a row in Casey Stoner has accumulated 116 points in the first six races of the year a single point more than he had after the first six races of 2007 when he went on to win the world title. Abraham made his Grand Prix debut in the 125cc class at the opening race of 2005 at Jerez. After two years in the 125cc class he moved up to the 250cc class and then to the Moto2 class for 2010 and won the final race of season at Valencia. This year he is the first Czech rider to compete in the premier-class since Pavol Dekanek in He will be the third youngest rider of all-time to reach the milestone of 100 GP starts, after Jorge Lorenzo and Sandro Cortese. 81 This is the 81st time that a Dutch TT event has been held. The first running of the Dutch TT was in 1925 and it has taken place every year since with the exception of the years 1940 to 1945 because of the Second World War. The event became part of the world championship series in 1949 and has hosted the Dutch round of the Grand Prix world championship every year since, and is the only circuit to have been part of the series since then. 34 years On race day at it will be exactly 34 years ago that Wil Hartog won the 1977 Dutch TT to become the first Dutch rider to win a world championship 500cc race. 28 Bradley Smith finished second in the Moto2 race at Silverstone after qualifying down in 28th place on the grid.
