3 The Munster Juniors Chess Championships were held in The Kilmurry Lodge Hotel in Limerick city during the weekend of the - January, 07. Limerick City old and new public Every year since 00, The Munster Junior Chess Committee (MJCC) has run this Provincial Chess tournament, and this year c79 entries were received. Age groups included u8's, u0's, u's, u's, u6's and u8's. Munster and non-munster winners: Only Munster resident players could win a title, but any non-munster player finishing ahead of a Munster prizewinner was entitled to a prize. Special thanks to Mary O'Donovan, Ryan Fitzgerald and Sean Phillips who managed the taking of entries, and Gabriel Mirza, trained FIDE arbiter who assisted as an arbiter. Also to Keith O'Rahilly and Ryan Fitzgerald for help with running various sections. Equipment, chess sets and clocks were provided by John Alfred, who also controlled the event. Players came from all over Munster; Limerick, Cork, Newcastle West, Ennis, Cloghjordan, Mallow, Shannon, etc. Galway was also represented. Age groups u's, u6's and u8's were combined in one section and this was the only section which could be rated by the ICU. The u8's was held on the Saturday, and the u0's on the Sunday. All other age groups were held on both Saturday and Sunday. The Rapidplay section was held on Sunday afternoon. Boys titles and Girls titles exist for all age groups but perpetual shields only exist for both from u's and up.
