Along with Anthem s benefits, you ll find more resources in your own county or city that can give you extra support on day-to-day issues. Help includes food, shelter, clothing, utilities, and other services and programs.

3 Where can you go for help? (DCBS) Every county has a local DCBS office, which helps people apply for aid through different programs. Visit your local DCBS office to find out more about the following programs: Medicaid This involves Medicaid, as well as waiver programs, which might help pay for costs associated with long-term care and community support programs. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) SNAP helps people with little or no money buy food for healthy meals at participating stores. Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (K-TAP) K-TAP gives financial and medical assistance to low-income children and the parents, or family member, with whom the children are living. K-TAP also helps parents find jobs or get training that leads to a job. Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP) CCAP gives access to quality child care, letting parents work, go to school and/or join the Kentucky Temporary Assistance Program Local Kentucky s for Public Health offers programs that help improve the lives of people through prevention of negative health outcomes, promotion of healthy lifestyles and safety from health problems, injury, and environmental health impacts. Below are just some of the more than 150 programs you can access through your local health department: Family Planning First Steps, a statewide early intervention system that gives services to children with developmental disabilities from birth to age 3 and their families. Health Screenings and Education Health Access Nurturing Development Services (HANDS) is a voluntary home visitation program for new and expectant parents. Families begin by meeting with a HANDS Parent Visitor who will answer any questions or concerns about pregnancy or a baby s first years. Based on the talk, all families will get information and learn about resources in the community for new parents. Some families will get ongoing support. Immunizations

4 Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This program offers short-term nutrition intervention to create healthy eating habits in high-risk populations. If you are pregnant, recently had a baby, are nursing or have a child younger than 5 years of age, the WIC program could help you. WIC gives: Nutrition education and services Breastfeeding promotion and education A monthly food prescription of healthy foods Access to maternal, prenatal and pediatric health care services Community Action Agencies are located all across the Commonwealth. Their goal is to link people with the resources in their communities. Here are some that may be on hand at your local Community Action: Child Care or Head Start Emergency Food and Shelter Kynect Many Community Action Agencies have staff serving as kynectors to assist people with health plan questions and fill out applications. Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) LIHEAP assists income-eligible households with paying their home heating bills through either a subsidy or a crisis program. Weatherization Improvements to help make your home more energyefficient No matter where you live, there is a community education center near you. Some offices are operated by local school boards or community colleges. Others are stand-alone centers. The following is a list of just some of the programs your local center may offer: Adult Basic Education Basic Computer Skills General Education Diploma (GED) Preparation English Literacy This may include helping you or your family learn to read better, as well as teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Job Skills Homeless Shelter Being homeless does not always mean someone without a roof over his or her head. It may mean brief stays with friends or family, without a place to call home. Kentucky has many shelters, which serve a number of counties across each region. If you do not have a shelter in your county, check in nearby counties as well to find the shelter nearest you.
