1 REGULATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE 2018 KWAZULU-NATAL JUNIOR & SENIOR MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP MSA KWAZULU-NATAL MOTORSPORT CIRCULAR KZ 06/2018 (161456/134) The following are the Standing Supplementary Regulations (SSR s) for the 2018 MSA KwaZulu-Natal Motocross Regional Championship. Note: These regulations are to be read in conjunction with the General Competition Rules (GCR s) and 2018 MSA SA National Motocross Standing Supplementary Regulations (SSR s) of Motorsport South Africa (MSA). These regulations must be read and understood by all competitors. 1. VALIDITY OF THE REGULATIONS Applicable for the calendar year of CONTROLLER OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP The Controllers of the Championship will be the MSA KwaZulu-Natal Regional Motorsport Committee. 3. AIM OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP To declare a KwaZulu-Natal Motocross Champion in each class and to give awards to the champions, if eligible. The Controllers, at their discretion, are responsible for declaring the winners of the Championship and are entitled to withhold such declaration from any competitor. The Championship year shall run from 1 January 2018 to 31 December cc Auto Clutch - Junior Colours (Air & Water Cooled) 65cc - Junior Colours 85cc - Junior Colours MX Pro Mini - Senior Colours MX High School - Senior Colours MX1 - Senior Colours MX2 - Senior Colours MX Vets - Senior Colours MX Ladies - Senior Colours MX2B - Senior Colours Regional Colours are at the discretion of Motorsport South Africa and are not automatically awarded to all winners. Regional Colours are awarded on merit. 4. ELIGIBILITY OF RIDERS & MOTORCYCLES The Championship is open to all riders who are domiciled in the area under jurisdiction of the MSA KwaZulu- Natal, Northern Regions and Swaziland Motorsport Committees, and whose motorcycles and licences comply with the specifications and regulations. 5. CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS AND HEATS TO COUNT 5.1 Four events (4) events of three heats per class are scheduled. 1 Event of two heats to count to run concurrent with the nationals. 5.2 A minimum of 10 heats to count to qualify as a championship (force majeure) should an event be cancelled. 6. CLASSES AND POINT SCORING 6.1 All entries MUST appear on all result sheets, even if a rider does not start the 1st heat or does not complete racing for the day. All competitors must compete in practice and at least one heat to be countered as a starter. 6.2 Manual scoring will be utilized; however, transponders may be used by organisers at their own expense 6.3 There shall be an average of 6 starters over the 6 events for classes to score points towards the Championship 6.4 Points scoring will be in accordance with the 2018 SA MSA National Motocross SSR s. 1

2 6.5 Regional Championship scoring will be available on request from Motorsport SA (Tel: / Fax: ) 6.6 Classes and Technical Specifications as listed below in point SEPARATION OF TIES In the case of a tie at the end of the series, the competitor with the greatest number of firsts will be champion. If this does not resolve the tie, the greatest number of seconds will count, failing this, thirds and so on. If a tie still remains, performance in all championship events will be taken into consideration and if this is still ineffective, MSA shall declare the winner on such a basis as it deems fit. Refer to Art 7 in the 2018 MSA SA National Motocross SSR s. 8. DECLARATION OF CHAMPION The Controllers will at their sole discretion, declare the winners of the Championship, however they are entitled to withhold such declaration from any competitor should circumstances warrant such action. 9. COMPETITION NUMBERS Competition numbers for ALL classes will be those as issued by Motorsport SA (Head Office) only. Refer to SSR in the 2018 MSA SA National Motocross SSR s. 10. PROGRAMME OF EVENTS, RACE DISTANCE AND RACE ORDER See event regulations RACE DISTANCE & RACE ORDER (The duration and race order of the event may be altered if deemed necessary by the Clerk of the Course in consultation with the Stewards.) 50cc Support Auto Clutch (air & water cooled) 10 minutes + 1 lap 50cc Auto Clutch Air & Water cooled - 10 minutes + 1 lap 65cc - 12 minutes + 1 lap 85cc - 12 minutes + 1 lap 85cc Enduro Support - 12 minutes + 1 lap Auto 80 (Semi Auto) - 10 minutes + 1 lap MX Pro Mini - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX 1-18 minutes + 1 lap MX 2-18 minutes + 1 lap MX 3-15 minutes + 1 lap MX High School - 15 minutes + 1 lap MX Ladies - 12 minutes + 1 lap Support - 12 minutes + 1 lap Enduro - 12 minutes + 1 lap MX 2B - 15 minutes + 1 lap 11. SCRUTINEERING 11.1 Self-Scrutineering will now apply. Compliant forms will be available at registration and must be returned completed to the MSA steward 11.2 Refer to SSR 226 in 2018 MSA SA National Motocross SSR s. 12. MULTIPLE CLASSES Multiple classes are permitted, provided the rider s age and machine conforms. 13. CLOSURE OF CIRCUIT 13.1 The closure of the circuit prior to Regional Championship events will be as per the Event regulations 13.2 The responsibility for establishing if a circuit is open lies with competitors 14. TROPHIES & PRIZEMONEY At the discretion of the hosting club. 15. SEEDING The KwaZulu-Natal Motocross Sub-Committee is responsible for seeding of riders and is solely responsible for allowing or disallowing any application, which must be in writing, for reclassification. 16. INTERPRETATION OF RULES Apart from the above specified rules for KwaZulu-Natal Regional Qualifying and Club Events, the rules as contained in the 2018 MSA SA National Motocross SSR s apply. 2

3 17. NEW CLUBS New clubs wishing to host regional meetings would have to host club meetings for one year before being permitted to host regional meetings. 18. ENTRIES Entry fees for 2018 can be seen in the event regulations 19. Open to riders from the year of their 16th birthday and older can compete on Motorcycles not exceeding stroke or 250cc 4 stroke. Wheel Size Mixed sizes as per manufacturer MX2B REGIONAL STATUS Open to riders from the year of their 13 th birthday - 125cc Two Stroke motorcycle only Open to riders from the year of their 14 th birthday and older, and can participate on 250cc 4 stroke and 125cc 2 stroke motorcycles Once a rider has attained a top 3 position in this class regionally or has previously finished in the top 10 within the High School, MX2, MX1, MX Vets class at a National level he is ineligible to compete again in this class. This will allow for growth in the MX2B class MX Support Club Class Open to riders from the year of their 13 th birthday on a 125cc Two Stroke motorcycle. Open to riders from the year of their 16 th birthday on Stroke or 250cc 4 Stroke Open to riders from the year of their 17 th birthday on unrestricted motorcycle MX Enduro Club Class Open to riders from the year of their 13 th birthday on a 125cc Two Stroke motorcycle. Open to riders from the year of their 16 th birthday on Stroke or 250cc 4 Stroke Open to riders from the year of their 17 th birthday on unrestricted motorcycle cc Junior Support Class Open to riders from the year of their 8 th birthday to 31 December of the year in which their 15 th birthday Open to riders from their 10 th birthday to 31 December of the year in which their 15 th birthday occurs 85cc - 2 Stroke & 150cc 4 Stroke motorcycles. Wheel sizes Rear 14 / Front 17 or Rear 16 / Front 19. 4

5 Clutch lever with gears not exceeding 85cc. Wheel diameter - not exceeding 17 (front) and 14 (rear). Unless otherwise stated, classes may be combined, but will score separately. The combining of classes of different engine capacities namely 85cc/125cc classes is prohibited, excluding the ladies class. These classes may not be combined with any other class. The 65cc/85cc classes may be combined at the discretion of the COC 5
