5 Clerk of the Course The Clerk of the Course is responsible to the Organiser for the good management and conduct of a competition held in accordance with the ACU National Sporting Code. The ACU being the National Governing Body for motorcycle sport in the UK. The National Sporting Code being the overall authority under which the Standing Regulations are derived.

6 Isle of Man TT Races IOMTT Mountain Course - Iconic - 37 ¾ miles of closed public roads - No run offs - Incidents Marshals in the road - communication to Riders via flag signals.

7 Isle of Man TT Races IOMTT Mountain Course - First event in Event is now 109 years old - 50,000 visitors - Televised in 53 different countries - Estimated viewing figures of 33 million. Quite a big deal.

8 Risk Assessments The whole TT Mountain Course is risk assessed on an annual basis Prohibited and Restricted Areas Red Flag positions Marshal positions

10 Risk Assessments Worker Engagement Risk Assessments conducted with experienced TT Solo Riders and Sidecar drivers, so we have expert opinions and get a good idea of the racing lines from both a solo and sidecar point of view. Relationship with the H&S Inspectorate.

11 Competitor Safety Course Inspection Officer regularly checks the Road Surface throughout the year and reports any areas of concern which may require attention prior to the start of the TT. Any major resurfacing completed at least six weeks prior to the TT and any white lines repainted ideally by the end of March so the lines can bed in and be scrubbed in. Relationship with the DOI.

13 Competitor Safety Black and white kerbs refreshed before each event. These identify kerbs and corners and also areas which may be affected by sun dazzle. Continuous white lines to identify key corners such as Ballagarey, Gorse Lea, Alpine, Sky Hill and the Nook.

15 Spectator Safety Prohibited Area No Officials, spectators, photographers No-one allowed in these areas. Restricted Areas No spectators allowed in these areas. Officials and Photographers allowed on request from the Clerk of the Course.

20 TT Marshals Association Volunteer based! 526 marshals required for a practice / race to commence 12 Chief Sector Marshals Deputy Sector Marshals and Marshals Line of Sight Communication to riders via Flags

21 TT Marshals Association National Flag start of the race Green Flag Track is clear Yellow and red striped flag Oil or other substance is affecting adhesion on this section of the Course White Flag with Diagonal Red Cross - Wet or damp patches affecting adhesion on this part of the Course or it is raining. Chequered Flag end of the race/practice session. White Flag with Black V Bad Visibility White Flag with SUN in black letters Sun dazzle Black Flag rider needs to stop because of technical infringement

22 TT Marshals Association Stationary Yellow Flag Indicates danger ahead, riders must slow down. No overtaking permitted Waved Yellow Flag Indicates the danger is more imminent. The riders must be prepared to stop. Red Flag indicates the race or practice has been interrupted. Riders must Stop racing/practice when it is safe to do so and await further instructions from the Marshals.

23 Decision Making Major Decisions made to date: Cancellation of the Senior Race Moved the Saturday Superbike Race to the Sunday (lack of practice due to bad weather) Raced everyday during Race week Moved the Saturday Superbike Race to the Sunday (excessive high winds)

24 Early Communications Vital Early decisions vital Riders can relax Marshals are not stood around getting cold and wet Minimise disruption to the public. Traffic also helps to dry the roads quicker
