The Blue Devils are 2-0 and averaging 106 points per game after opening with a win over Kentucky and a defeat of Army in Sunday s home opener. The 212 points mark Duke s fourth-most through two games in program history, while RJ Barrett (56) and Zion Williamson (55) have scored the most points by freshmen through the first two games in Duke history. Only Kentucky (2,266), Kansas (2,249) and (2,234) have more all-time wins than Duke. Zion Williamson s 55 points are second most. Williamson became only the second Duke player -- and first under Coach K -- to post a 25+ points, 15+ rebounds and 5+ blocks with his effort against Army. Mike Gminski did it twice (11/30/79 vs. Wake and 2/20/80 vs. Clemson). Cam Reddish s seven three-pointers against Army set a Duke freshman single-game record. Reddish s 10 treys are also the most by a Duke freshman over the season s first two games. SUSTAINED SUCCESS Last season marked Duke s 53rd 20-win season. Duke has won 20 or more games in 22 consecutive seasons, including the campaign. The Blue Devils have recorded 30 or more wins an NCAArecord 14 times under Coach K. Duke, Kansas and Gonzaga are the only programs to have won 25 or more games in each of the last 11 seasons. PRESEASON POLL STREAK EXTENDS Duke was ranked No. 4 in the preseason AP poll, which was announced on Oct. 22. It marked the sixth straight year that Duke has debuted in the top five and the 11th straight season in the top 10. The Blue Devils have been the preseason No. 1 team five times since 2002 (2002, 2006, 2011, 2017, 2018). Duke is the only team to be ranked in every preseason poll over the last two decades, and the Blue Devils average ranking of 5.5 is also the nation s best in that time. Barrett and Williamson set the two best scoring performances for a Duke freshman in a debut, surpassing the 25 scored by Marvin Bagley III last season versus Elon. The 118 points were the second-most points scored by Duke versus a top five team, and set the Champions Classic scoring record. The Blue Devils improved to 5-3 in the Champions Classic, the best record amongst the four participants. Coach K improved to 6-2 versus Kentucky and the Blue Devils have won eight of the last 10 in the series. The 118 points scored by Duke were its most against a power conference opponent since a win over UCLA in WillIiamson s 11-of-13 (.846) from the floor was a Duke record for field goal percentage in the Champions Classic, while Barrett s 33 points were the second-best by a Duke player in the Champions Classic (37, Grayson Allen vs. Michigan State last season). With 33 points, Barrett was one shy of Duke s overall freshman scoring record. THREE-POINT STREAK Duke has connected on at least one three-pointer in 1,023 straight games, the third-longest streak in the nation. Kentucky held the top spot previously, before their streak of 1,047 games was snapped late last season. The last time Duke was held without a three-point field goal was Dec. 30, 1989 versus Hawaii. 5 MAUI INVITATIONAL UP NEXT When Duke begins its quest for a record sixth Maui Jim Maui Invitational title next week, the Blue Devils will face one of the toughest fields in the tournament s history. The stacked 2018 Maui field includes top-ranked Duke, Arizona, Gonzaga (No. 3 this week), Xavier, Auburn (No. 9), Illinois, Iowa State and San Diego State. The Blue Devils are 16-0 all-time in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational (15-0 in Maui), and their record five titles (1992, 1997, 2001, 2007, 2011) are the most. has four titles, has three, while Arizona, Connecticut, Kansas and Michigan have each won it twice. All three Duke assistant coaches were players on Duke programs that claimed Maui titles under Coach K Chris Carrawell and Nate James with the 1997 team and Jon Scheyer with the 2007 squad. Duke faces San Diego State in the opener Monday (5 p.m. ET, ESPN2) with Auburn or Xavier on Day 2. Besser founded the Walk On America campaign to raise money and awareness of the Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) community. Brennan and his sister Rachel were compelled to action by the challenges faced every day by their sister Jacqueline, who is non-verbal. Under Coach K s watch, Duke has produced multiple All-ACC Academic selections in 11 consecutive years. The 2015 NCAA championship team featured a programhigh five All-ACC Academic honorees. Quin Snyder, Amile Jefferson and Grayson Allen are the only players in Duke history to earn All-ACC Academic honors four times. Jefferson, a three-time captain, departed the university in 2017 with both bachelor s and master s degrees. Krzyzewski has had six players collect a total of nine CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, headlined by two-time first-team honorees Battier (2000, 2001) and Mason Plumlee (2012, 2013). Allen became the sixth in 2016 when he garnered second-team accolades. Fittingly, Coach K has earned nearly every award imaginable. The crown jewel of that haul, however, came in 2001 when he was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Since his enshrinement in Springfield, Mass., Krzyzewski has also been inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame (2009), the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame (2010) and the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame (2011). While establishing Duke as one of college basketball s dynastic programs, Krzyzewski simultaneously spent more than decade as one of the architects of the revitalization of USA Basketball. During his tenure at the helm of the program, the U.S. National Team amassed an extraordinary 88-1 record and claimed gold medals at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship, 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2010 FIBA World Championship, 2012 London Olympics, 2014 FIBA World Cup and 2016 Rio Olympics, as well as a bronze medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship. Coach K was 24-0 in the Olympics as head coach of the USMNT and his time at the helm ended with the team in the midst of a National Team-record 76-game winning streak that began in Giving Back Krzyzewski has been diligently committed to public service, both locally and nationally, throughout his coaching career. Coach K became the first Division I men s coach to record 1,000 career victories with a win over St. John s on Jan. 25, 2015 at Madison Square Garden.
