1 Liberty University Women s Basketball Game No. 31 Big South Women s Basketball Championship Semifinal No. 2 seed Liberty (20-10) vs. No. 3 seed Winthrop (22-8) March 8, p.m. The HTC Center (Conway, S.C.) The Coaches Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 15 th season at Liberty, including 32-2 against Winthrop. His teams are 39-2 all-time in the Big South Championship. Winthrop Head Coach Kevin Cook is in his second season at Winthrop and overall in his collegiate coaching career. He is 0-4 against the Lady Flames. Series History Liberty is 46-8 all-time against Winthrop and has won four straight matchups with the Eagles, including both contests this season. Liberty was the only Big South team to sweep the regular-season series from the Eagles and one of only two visiting teams to win at the Winthrop Coliseum in Liberty is 5-0 against Winthrop in the Big South Championship, including 3-0 in the semifinal round (1997, 2006 & 2009). The last Big South Championship meeting between the Lady Flames and Eagles came in the 2009 semifinals, March 14, 2009 at High Point s Millis Center. Megan Frazee (28 points, 13 rebounds) helped No. 1 seed Liberty post a win over No. 4 seed Winthrop and advance to the title game. Each of the five times Liberty has defeated Winthrop in the Big South Championship (1997, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2009), it has gone on to win the tournament title Matchup #1 Jan. 16, 2014 Liberty 77, Winthrop 70 (OT) Winthrop Coliseum (Rock Hill, S.C.) Liberty and Winthrop entered the contest tied for the Big South lead at 6-1. Winthrop raced out to a 23-8 lead in the first 6:35 of the game. Liberty opened the second half with a 13-2 run and led most of the way until Schaquilla Nunn scored from close range off of a lob from a sideline out-of-bounds play as the buzzer sounded, forcing overtime. The Lady Flames scored the first six points of overtime and never looked back. It would be Liberty s first of four overtime contests in a five-game stretch and the only one that the Lady Flames won.

2 Ashley Rininger notched her fifth straight double-double (20 points, 14 rebounds), Reagan Miller scored all 17 of her points after halftime, Mickayla Sanders finished with a then careerhigh 17 points and Emily Frazier pulled down a career-high nine rebounds for the Lady Flames. For Winthrop, Nunn (20 points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks) led the way while Dequesha McClanahan added 20 points and seven assists. Liberty grabbed 23 offensive rebounds as part of a advantage on the glass. The Lady Flames had 17 bench points to the Eagles three Matchup #2 Feb. 22, 2014 Liberty 80, Winthrop 69 Vines Center (Lynchburg, Va.) Winthrop entered the contest as the Big South leader at 14-3 and riding a season-long sevengame winning streak. The Eagles jumped out to a 12-1 lead just 3:21 into the contest. Liberty then made eight straight three-point field goal attempts to close the opening half, featuring three apiece by Jaymee Fisher-Davis and Emily Frazier, building a halftime lead. Winthrop got no closer than seven points during the second half, and Liberty was able to win its home finale. Liberty shot extremely well from the field (51 percent on 26-of-51), three-point range (56.3 percent on 9-of-16) and the foul line (82.6 percent on 19-of-23). The Lady Flames ended up with a 31-2 advantage in bench points. Liberty outrebounded Winthrop, Katelyn Adams paced the Lady Flames with a career-high 17 points, while fellow post player Ashley Rininger scored all 13 of her points after halftime and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Fisher-Davis finished with 13 points and four triples, highlighted by a four-point play. Mickayla Sanders added 10 points and a pair of three-pointers. Dequesha McClanahan topped the Eagles with 16 points but shot just 7-of-23 from the field. Big South Championship Notes Liberty has reached the Big South Championship semifinal round for the 18 th straight year. The Lady Flames are 16-3 all-time in the Big South semifinals and have won six consecutive semifinal contests. Liberty is 45-1 in the Big South Championship when favored according to seed. The Lady Flames will look to continue a streak which has seen either Liberty or Radford play in the Big South Championship title game every time it has been contested. Liberty has reached the Big South Championship title game in 13 of Carey Green s first 14 seasons as head coach, winning 12 titles. The Lady Flames are 6-0 all-time at The HTC Center and have won 22 straight games in Conway overall. Liberty is 51-5 in games played in South Carolina under head coach Carey Green.

3 A Look Back at Thursday s Win Over Presbyterian College For the 18 th straight season, No. 2 seed Liberty advanced to the Big South Championship semifinals with a victory over No. 7 seed Presbyterian College, Thursday evening at The HTC Center. Liberty never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an 11-0 advantage while holding the Blue Hose scoreless for the first 7:40 of the game. Liberty has not trailed since the 6:32 mark of the first half against Winthrop on Feb. 22. The Lady Flames have led or been tied for the last 146:31 of game action since then. The Lady Flames built a advantage by halftime and put the game away with a 20-0 second-half run, avenging a setback at PC three weeks prior. It was Liberty s season-best sixth straight victory and gives the Lady Flames 20 wins for the seventh consecutive season. The Lady Flames held PC to 29.8 percent (14-of-47) field goal shooting on the night. No opposing team has shot 50 percent or better against Liberty all season. It was the third straight game and the seventh time in their last nine outings that Liberty has held its opponent below 50 points. Liberty grabbed 42 rebounds to PC s 30 on Thursday, after the Blue Hose were one of only two teams (also James Madison) to outrebound the Lady Flames during the regular season. After shooting 1-of-17 from three-point range in the loss at PC, Liberty went 5-of-19 on Thursday. The Lady Flames have now hit 168 triples this season and need six more to break the program single-season record of 173 set in Liberty owned significant advantages in points in the paint (30-6) and bench points (31-12). It was the 14 th straight game that the Lady Flames have tallied more bench points than their opponent. Nine different players scored points for the Lady Flames, and all 13 players in uniform saw action. After being held to a season-low four points and three rebounds at PC three weeks earlier, Ashley Rininger tied for the team lead with 12 points and grabbed eight boards. Mickayla Sanders (12 points) and Jaymee Fisher-Davis (10 points) both scored in double figures off of the bench, while combining for three of the Lady Flames five made triples. Katelyn Adams collected a team-high nine rebounds. Shooting 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc during the last four games Averaged 13.5 ppg and shot 50 percent (5-of-10) from three-point range in two regular-season meetings with Winthrop Her then career-high 17 points at Winthrop on Jan. 16 included a three-pointer with 4:40 left in overtime which gave the Lady Flames the lead for good.
