Wells also drew attention from the Southern Conference Coaches, being named as an All-Conference selection in the Preseason on Thursday. Teammate Zach Urbanus, recently recognized as 37th among the top-50 shooters in NCAA Division I by Fox Sports, brings his sharpshooting skills back to The Citadel lineup. Urbanus enters the season 12 three-pointers shy of fifth place all-time among Bulldog 3-point shooters. AGAINST RANKED TEAMS: Michigan State, who visits McAlister Field House on Dec. 7, will begin the season ranked in second place. The Spartans are led by junior guard Kalin Lucas who averaged 14.7 points per contest for the 2009 National Final runner-up. Teammate Raymar Morgan, a 6-foot- 8 forward, also returns to a team in which he averaged 10.2 points per game. The Bulldogs will also tip-off against West Virginia, ranked ninth in the initial poll, on Nov. 24. The Mountaineers finished last season with a record, following a first round loss in the NCAA Tournament to Dayton. The combination of Da'Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks highlight a lineup that reached the Big East Tournament semifinals one season ago. Butler averaged 17.1 points, 5.9 steals and 1.3 rebounds. Ebanks (10.5 ppg.) provides balanced scoring, averaging 7.8 rebounds as well. The last time that the Bulldogs met a ranked opponent was Dec. 17 of last season at 19th ranked Michigan State. Coincidentally, the last time The Citadel Bulldogs faced a top 10 opponent was when they traveled to Seattle and faced 7th rated Washington State in the Cougar Hardwood Classic. The Citadel has not faced multiple ranked opponents in a season since when they faced five ranked opponents including 16th ranked East Tennessee State (Jan. 24), 12th ranked Duke (Jan. 16), 13th ranked East Tennessee State (Feb. 9), 8th ranked North Carolina (Feb. 18) and 19th ranked East Tennessee State (March 1). Dating back to the season, five teams have visited The Citadel campus with a rank in the national polls. Interestingly, the Duke University team was comprised of Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley, who captured head coach Mike Krzyzewski s first National Championship. In , when Wake Forest came into McAlister Field House, the Demon Deacons were led by Tim Duncan. Duncan would lead his team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, along with being named consensus National Player of the Year. 3 SEE YOU AT McALISTER!: The Bulldogs will host 16 home games at McAlister Field House, including the College Insider.com Skip Prosser Classic which will include Savannah State, Central Connecticut State and UVA-Wise, adding two more non-citadel games to be played at McAlister. MEET THE BULLDOGS : The Citadel Basketball team completed an intrasquad scrimmage on Thursday afternoon at McAlister Field House, allowing fans a chance to preview the team. The 19th annual Meet the Bulldogs was highlighted by a victory in favor of the White squad. Senior center Joe Wolfinger, a 7-foot-0 transfer from Washington, scored a game-high 12 points for the White team. Cameron Wells, who was named to the Southern Conference Preseason Team, added 11 points and two steals. Wolfinger hit 4-for-9 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Wells converted 4-of-8 shots, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc. The highlight of the game was a Bryan Streeter rebound dunk, drawing cheers from onlookers. Mike Groselle and Nathan Conley led the Blue squad with six points apiece. Groselle hit 3-for-7 from the field to go along with four boards. Conley, a freshman guard, hit a pair of three-pointers in the contest. SOUTHERN CONFERENCE PRESEASON PREDICTIONS: The Bulldogs, who finished with a 15-5 record and tied for a second place finish in the SoCon last season, were selected fourth in the preseason polls this year. Ed Conroy s squad is seeking to to become the first Citadel Basketball team since 1961 to have back-to-back winning SoCon seasons. As he looks to the campaign, Conroy says This is by far our most veteran team returning. We have a large group of guys familiar with our system. It has been a great fall in terms of physical, mental, and academic development. I think a lot of this can be attributed to the strong group of returners we have. Our freshman get to introduced to doing things the Citadel Way by their teammates. Team (1st Place Votes) Total 1.
