USU hasn t had a losing season since 1993, a span of 18 years. Utah State is 4-1 at home this year and has won 87 of its last 90 home games. Under current head coach Stew Morrill, USU is (.934) at home including a 97-6 (.942) record against non-conference opponents. All-time, Utah State is (.821) in this its 42nd season playing inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Utah State had won 33 straight home games prior to its home loss to Denver on Nov. 30 as that 33-game winning streak was the third-longest active streak in the nation and the second-longest in school history. USU had also won 17 straight home games against nonconference opponents before its loss to the Pioneers. Utah State is 40-1 (.976) all-time in tournaments it hosts as it went 3-0 in the World Vision Invitational (2010), Basketball Travelers Invitational (2009) and the Duel in the Desert (2008), 26-0 in the Gossner Foods Holiday Classic ( ) and 5-1 in the Big Blue Classic ( , 1982), losing to Wyoming, 92-85, on Dec. 28, 1971 in the championship game. Utah State is (.782) during the month of December under Morrill, which includes a 66-2 (.971) record at home. USU is also 22-8 (.733) in games played on Tuesday under Morrill and 13-4 (.765) all-time in known games played on Dec. 20. Utah State is 2-1 on the season and has won 108 of its last 111 games when holding its opponents under 60 points. In fact, USU is (.930) under Morrill when allowing fewer than 60 points. Utah State has made at least one three-point basket in 173 straight games and the last time USU did not make a three-pointer in a game was on Dec. 16, 2006 in Provo as BYU defeated the Aggies, USU entered that game having made at least one three-pointer in 127 games dating back to Dec. 14, 2002 when BYU held USU without a three-pointer in a win in Provo. Utah State is one of just three teams in the nation to win at least 23 games in each of the last 12 seasons along with Gonzaga and Kansas. The previous USU record for consecutive 20-win seasons was three from 1962 to Overall, USU has won 20 or more games 26 times in school history. None of the tournament games will be televised, but all three of Utah State s games are available to listen live via the Aggie Sports Network. LOOKING AT UTAH STATE Utah State is 5-5 on the season after defeating Seattle, 78-53, Saturday. USU is led by sophomore guard Preston Medlin who is averaging 13.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, and is shooting 46.5 percent from the field, 45.8 percent from three-point range and 71.9 percent at the free throw line. Senior guard Brockeith Pane is averaging 12.3 points and 3.2 assists per game, and is shooting 37.3 percent from the field, 26.1 percent from three-point range and 76.1 percent at the free throw line, while senior forward Morgan Grim is averaging 9.6 points and 6.3 rebounds, and is shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 67.9 percent at the free throw line. As a team, Utah State is averaging 65.5 points and shooting 45.1 percent from the field, 39.2 percent from three-point range and 67.0 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, USU is allowing 63.9 points and its opponents are shooting 39.9 percent from the field, 31.6 percent from three-point range and 72.1 percent at the free throw line. RANKING UTAH STATE IN THE WAC (REED RANKS SECOND IN FIELD GOAL SHOOTING) As of Monday, Dec. 19, Utah State ranks second in the WAC in scoring defense (63.9), second in field goal percentage (.451), second in three-point field goal percentage (.392), third in field goal percentage defense (.399), third in three-point field goal percentage defense (.316), fourth in scoring margin (+1.6), fifth in blocked shots (2.80), and fifth in free throw shooting (.670). Individually, sophomore guard Preston Medlin ranks fourth in three-point shooting (.458), ninth in scoring (13.7), 10th in assists (2.80), 13th in overall shooting (.465), and 13th in free throw shooting (.719). Senior point guard Brockeith Pane ranks eighth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.03), ninth in assists (3.20), 11th in free throw shooting (.761), 13th in scoring (12.3), and 13th in steals (1.10). Senior forward Morgan Grim ranks seventh in blocked shots (0.90) and eighth in rebounding (6.3). And junior forward Kyisean Reed ranks second in overall shooting (.583) and 15th in rebounding (4.9). UTAH STATE RETURNS JUST ONE STARTER AND FOUR LETTERMEN IN Utah State s one returning starter (Brockeith Pane) is its fewest since returning one starter during the season. USU finished with a 23-8 record that season, including tying for first-place in the Big West Conference with a 13-5 mark and advanced to the postseason National Invitation Tournament. USU s four returning lettermen (E.J. Farris, Morgan Grim, Brady Jardine, Brockeith Pane) are its fewest since returning three lettermen for the season. UTAH STATE LOSES FOUR STARTERS AND EIGHT LETTERWINNERS FROM 2011 NCAA TEAM Utah State lost four starters (Nate Bendall, Tyler Newbold, Tai Wesley, Pooh Williams) and four other letterwinners (Brad Brown, Matt Formisano, Brian Green, James Walker III) from last year s WAC Championship team. Wesley was named the WAC s Player of the Year and an honorable mention All-American, while Green earned second-team all-wac honors and Newbold was named to the league s all-defensive team. Bendall and Wesley also joined current Aggie Brockeith Pane on the WAC s all-tournament team.

3 LOOKING BACK AT THE SEATTLE GAME Sophomore guard Preston Medlin scored a game-high 22 points in leading Utah State to an easy home win against future Western Athletic Conference member Seattle (2-7) at home Saturday to even its ledger at 5-5 on the season. For Utah State, its 78 points were a season-high and its 25-point win was its largest of the year. USU also shot 50 percent from the field for the second time in as many games and for the third time this season. Medlin, who was 6-of-12 from the field, 3-of-5 from three-point range and a perfect 7-for-7 at the free throw line, has now scored in double-figures in each of his last six games as he reached the 20-point plateau for the second time this year. Junior forward Kyisean Reed added a season-high tying 13 points for Utah State as he has now scored in double-figures in fourstraight games, while sophomore guard/forward Danny Berger hit double-figures for the third-straight game with 11 points, while adding season-highs with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in a season-best 29 minutes. Overall, Utah State s bench scored 31 points as compared to 28 for Seattle as junior guard E.J. Farris had a career-high nine points and sophomore forward Ben Clifford added eight points and five rebounds. Utah State finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (22-44), including 54.5 percent from three-point range (6-11) and 75.7 percent at the free throw line as it had season-highs in both free throws made (28) and attempted (37). Seattle shot just 29.2 percent overall (19-65), a season-low for a Utah State opponent. The Redhawks were also just 3-of-23 (.130) from three-point range and converted on 12-of-18 (.667) free throws. SU did out-rebound USU by eight (43-35) as it grabbed 21 offensive boards. Sterling Carter and Prince Obasi each scored eight points for Seattle as the Redhawks did not have a single player score in double-figures. Utah State scored the first five points of the game on a layup by Reed and a three-pointer from Medlin before Seattle scored the next six points to take its only lead of the game at 6-5 with 16:37 to play in the half. USU later led by just three at before a Medlin three-pointer sparked an 11-0 run and the Aggies went into half-time with a advantage. Medlin had 11 points to lead Utah State in the first-half as it shot 47.6 percent (10-21), including 50.0 percent from three (3-6) and 63.2 percent at the line (12-19). Seattle shot 32.2 percent in the first 20 minutes (10-31), but was 0-of-9 from three-point range and just 4-for-9 (.444) at the free throw line. Seattle could never get closer than 11 points early on in the second half as Utah State used a 9-0 run to lead 45-26, and a 7-0 run for a advantage. UTAH STATE RECORDS SEASON-HIGHS AGAINST SEATTLE Utah State recorded several season-highs in its last game against Seattle as it scored a seasonhigh 78 points, made a season-high 28 free throws and shot a season-high 37 free throws. USU also held Seattle to just 53 points, which was a season-low for a USU opponent this year. UTAH STATE SHOOTS 50 PERCENT FROM THE FIELD AGAIN Utah State shot 50 percent from the field (22-44) against Seattle in its last game marking the second time in as many games and third time this year it has shot at least 50 percent overall. During its last two games, Utah State is averaging 77.0 points and shooting 52.1 percent from the field (50-96), 42.3 percent from three-point range (11-26) and 74.1 percent at the free throw line (43-58). UTAH STATE DEFENSE HAS BEEN SOLID THIS YEAR Utah State has played very well on defense for the most part this year as it has held six of its 10 opponents to under 40 percent shooting, including holding Seattle to just 29.2 percent shooting from the field (19-65) and just 13.0 percent shooting from three-point range (3-23) in its last game. During its last four games, Utah State s opponents are shooting just 37.8 percent from the field (88-233) and just 30.5 percent from three-point range (25-82). UTAH STATE HAS USED SEVEN DIFFERENT STARTING LINEUPS THIS YEAR Through 10 games, Utah State has used seven different starting lineups and has used the same lineup in consecutive games just twice this year. On the season, USU has started 10 different players and only senior forward Morgan Grim and sophomore guard Preston Medlin have started every game. During the season, Utah State started four different lineups the entire season. AGGIE RESERVES PLAYING WELL DURING LAST THREE GAMES Utah State s bench has been very productive in its last three games as it scored a season-high tying 31 points against Seattle, to go along with 27 points against both Wichita State and Utah Valley. During its last three games, Utah State s bench is averaging 28.3 points and 11.7 rebounds, while shooting 61.2 percent from the field (30-49), 50.0 percent from three-point range (6-12) and 73.1 percent at the free throw line (19-26). Against the Bengals, Medlin was 9-of-13 from the field and 8-of-11 from three-point range. Medlin also had a career-high eight rebounds at Pacific and a career-high six assists against Utah Valley. Overall, Medlin has scored in double-figures seven times this year and eight times in his career. During his last six games, Medlin is averaging 17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists, while shooting 47.9 percent from the field (34-71), 54.5 percent from three-point range (18-33) and 81.8 percent from the free throw line (18-22). MEDLIN MAKES EIGHT THREE-POINTERS AGAINST IDAHO STATE Sophomore redshirt guard Preston Medlin made eight three-pointers in Utah State s win at Idaho State and those eight made treys are tied for the third-most in a single-game in school history and the most since Jaycee Carroll made a school-record 10 three-pointers at New Mexico State on Feb. 2, Jay Goodman ranks second all-time at USU as he made nine three-pointers at BYU on Nov. 24, 1990, while Carroll made eight three s against UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 6, 2005 and Cardell Butler made eight three s against Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 21, REED SCORES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES IN FOUR-STRAIGHT GAMES Junior forward Kyisean Reed has scored in double-figures in each of his last four games as he tied his season-high in each of his last two games with 13 points against Seattle and at Wichita State. He also had 11 points and six rebounds against Utah Valley and 13 points to go along with seven rebounds in a season-best 34 minutes at Pacific. Reed also had 13 points in a home game against Southern Utah and recorded his first double-figure rebounding game at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi as he had 10 boards in his first-ever start. During his last four games, Reed is averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting 64.3 percent from the field (18-28) and 70.0 percent at the free throw line (14-20). BERGER SCORES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES IN THREE-STRAIGHT GAMES Sophomore guard/forward Danny Berger has scored in double-figures in each of his last three games after scoring 11 points against Seattle, to go along with a career-high 12 points at Wichita State and 10 points against Utah Valley. Berger also had career-highs with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in a season-best 29 minutes against the Redhawks. During his last three games, Berger is averaging 11.0 points and shooting 62.5 percent from the field (10-16), 62.5 percent from three-point range (5-8) and is 8-for-8 at the free throw line. Berger sat out the first six games of the year as a potential redshirt before seeing his first action of the season at Pacific. BRUNEEL SCORES CAREER-HIGH 10 POINTS AT WICHITA STATE Sophomore forward Mitch Bruneel scored in double-figures for the first time in his career with 10 points at Wichita State. In his last five games, Bruneel is averaging 6.0 points and shooting 60.0 percent from the field (12-20), 50.0 percent from three-point range (3-6) and 75.0 percent at the free throw line (3-4). PANE SCORES IN DOUBLE-FIGURES FOR SEVENTH TIME THIS YEAR WITH 18 POINTS AT WICHITA STATE Senior point guard Brockeith Pane scored in double-figures for the seventh time this year and 29th time in his career with 18 points at Wichita State. During his last five games, Pane is averaging 10.4 points and 2.0 assists, while shooting 33.3 percent from the field (17-51), 18.2 percent from three-point range (2-11) and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (16-24). GRIM S DOUBLE-FIGURE SCORING STREAK ENDS AT THREE Senior forward Morgan Grim had scored in double-figures in three-straight games before scoring just three points at Pacific. During his streak of three-straight double-figure scoring games, Grim had 11 points against Denver and Idaho State, to go along with a career-high 20 points and a career-high 12 rebounds, while playing a career-high 42 minutes at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi for his first-ever double-double. Overall, Grim has scored in double-figures four times this year as he had 19 points at Weber State. During his last five games, Grim is averaging 6.0 points and 5.8 rebounds, while shooting 40.0 percent from the field (10-25) and 55.6 percent at the free throw line (10-18). STONE RECORDS CAREER-HIGH EIGHT REBOUNDS IN FIRST START Freshman center Jordan Stone grabbed a career-high eight rebounds in his first career start against Utah Valley. Stone also played well in his previous game at Pacific as he grabbed seven rebounds and scored a career-best seven points, while playing a career-high 23 minutes. Stone also had six points and three rebounds in his previous game against Denver, to go along with five points and five rebounds against Southern Utah earlier in the year. During his last five games, Stone is averaging 3.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 15.4 minutes, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field (5-10) and 63.6 percent at the free throw line (7-11). DID YOU KNOW? Utah State is 2-1 this year and has won 63 of its last 66 games when scoring at least 70 points. It is the second-largest university in the UT system. The Mavericks sponsor 14 intercollegiate sports that will compete in the WAC - baseball, men s and women s basketball, men s and women s cross country, men s golf, softball, men s and women s tennis, men s and women s indoor and outdoor track and field and women s volleyball. UT Arlington s move to the WAC coincides with the first full season of volleyball and basketball to be played in the University s new College Park Center, a 6,500-seat, split bowl arena. Both the men s and women s basketball teams have competed recently in the NCAA basketball tournament with the men last appearing in 2008 and the women the season prior. The Peacocks, who are currently 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference this season, began the year with a road loss at Buffalo (72-65), followed by a home loss to Robert Morris (69-52) and a road loss at Fairleigh Dickinson (73-62), before notching a home win against Binghamton (66-43). Saint Peter s then lost at Seton Hall (63-54) followed by a home win against Siena (51-44), before losing each of its last three games. The Peacocks, who are 0-6 on the road this year, are led by junior forward Darius Conley who is averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds, while shooting 47.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent at the free throw line. 9 UTAH STATE NATIONALLY RANKED THREE TIMES IN LAST EIGHT YEARS Utah State ended the season ranked No. 25 in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and ended the season nationally ranked for nine straight weeks, which is its longest streak since being ranked for 11 straight weeks during the season. That No. 25 national ranking for Utah State marks the first time it has been ranked at the end of a season since the USU team finished the year ranked No. 17 in the final United Press Coaches Poll. Overall, it is just the eighth time in school history that an Aggie team has been nationally ranked at the end of the year joining the 1960 (7th), 1962 (19th), 1964 (15th), 1967 (14th), 1970 (17th), 1975 (13th) and 1978 teams (17th). Utah State entered the 2011 NCAA Tournament ranked No. 17 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 19 in the Associated Press Poll. The Associated Press does not produce an end-of-season poll. Utah State s No. 17 ranking in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll is the highest-ever ranking for Utah State in that poll which expanded from 20 to 25 teams prior to the season. UTAH STATE PICKED FIRST BY MEDIA, THIRD BY COACHES IN PRESEASON POLLS After winning four-straight regular season Western Athletic Conference Championships and two WAC Tournament titles in the past three years, Utah State s men s basketball team is picked to finish first in the conference once again during the season according to league s media, while the coaches have tabbed the Aggies third in the WAC s preseason polls. Nevada is the coaches pick to win the WAC this year after receiving five first-place votes and 46 points, while New Mexico State is slated to finish second after garnering 41 points, but no first-place votes. Utah State received three first-place votes and 38 points and was picked to finish third, followed by Hawai i (32), Idaho (24), Fresno State (18), San Jose State (14) and Louisiana Tech (11). In the media poll, Utah State garnered 13 first-place votes and 174 points, while Nevada was second with 162 points and five first-place votes. New Mexico State, who received 150 points and three first-place votes was picked third, while Hawai i received 126 points and three first-place votes and was picked to finish fourth. Idaho was picked fifth (89), followed by San Jose State (66), Fresno State (59) and Louisiana Tech (38). PANE NAMED WAC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR BY MEDIA Senior guard Brockeith Pane was named the WAC s Preseason Player of the Year by the media and a first-team all-league selection by both the media and coaches heading into the season. Overall, Utah State has had the WAC s Player of the Year three times in the last four years in Jaycee Carroll (2008), Gary Wilkinson (2009) and Tai Wesley (2011). Pane earned first-team all-wac honors and was named to the league s all-newcomer team as a junior, along with being voted the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 WAC Tournament. 10 UTAH STATE NOTES AND TRADITION Utah State s 30 wins during the season are tied with the team for most in school history and its 30-4 record is the best-ever at USU. Utah State also won 25-straight Western Athletic Conference games during the and seasons, to set a school and league record. Utah State s current streak winning four-straight Western Athletic Conference regular season championships is the longest in school history. The previous record for consecutive conference titles was two during the seasons in the Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference and the seasons in the Big West Conference. Utah State finished the season ranked No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, marking the first time since 1978 that USU has been nationally ranked at the end of the season. It is also just the eighth time in school history that USU has finished the season nationally ranked. USU was ranked for nine straight weeks to end the year, which is its longest streak since the team was ranked for 11 straight weeks. Overall, it was the third time in the last eight years that USU has been nationally ranked. Over the last 12 years, Utah State has averaged 25.8 wins and is one of just three schools in the nation to win at least 23 games in each of those seasons joining Gonzaga and Kansas. Over the past 12 years, Utah State has won seven regular season conference championships and six tournament championships. The team tied the school record for wins at the time (28) and recorded Utah State s first NCAA Tournament win in 31 years with a overtime victory against Ohio State. 10 December 19, 2011 JARDINE NAMED WAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK ONCE LAST SEASON Senior forward Brady Jardine was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 29, 2010 after leading Utah State to a pair of home wins against Utah (79-62) and Northeastern (56-54). Against the Utes, he posted his second-ever doubledouble with a career-high 20 points to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds in a career-high 31 minutes. Jardine was 6-of-7 from the field and 8-of-10 at the free throw line in the game. Against the Huskies, Jardine posted another double-double with 15 points and a career-high tying 13 boards as he was 5-of-10 from the field and 5-of-8 at the free throw line. He also tied his career-high with three blocks and played a careerhigh 34 minutes in the game. For the week, Jardine averaged 17.5 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks, while shooting 64.7 percent from the field (11-17) and 72.2 percent at the free throw line (13-18). JARDINE NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM Utah State men s basketball player Brady Jardine was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team last season. Jardine was one of just three players from the Western Athletic Conference to earn academic all-district honors during the season joining teammate Tyler Newbold and Nedeljko Golubovic of Fresno State. The Aggie duo were also the only players from the state of Utah recognized. Along with being academic all-district, Jardine has also earned academic all-wac honors three times in his career. PANE NAMED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF WAC TOURNAMENT Senior guard Brockeith Pane was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Tournament as he had 16 points and three rebounds against San Jose State in the semifinals and 19 points, four assists and three rebounds in the championship game against Boise State. For the tournament, Pane averaged 17.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while shooting 42.9 percent from the field (9-21) and was a perfect 17-for-17 at the free throw line.
