2 PLAYER/PARENT EXPECTATIONS: I. Practice 1. Players are expected to be on the field ready to practice (with equipment on) prior to the start of practice. Tardiness is disrupted and is discouraged please let the coaches know ASAP if you re going to be late or going to miss practice. 2. The schedule provided is tentative and subject to change. All changes will be communicated via e- mail, text, and our website. 3. The first 15 minutes of scheduled time is designated as pre-practice. Each position will be given drills to be performed during pre-practice. 4. There is absolutely no hitting or tackling before practice. 5. We play in the rain and snow and we will practice in the rain and snow. Bring towels for your car, as the kids will get dirty. 6. We will not practice if there is lightning. If there is a possibility of a storm and/or potential for lightning check your /text before practice to see if practice is canceled (if there is a potential for lightning parents should stay by the practice field). 7. As the season progresses, practice will be ending earlier. 8. We will be performing hitting and tackling drills during each practice. The coaches will attempt to pair similar size players with each other. 9. Players are expected to hustle and follow direction during practice. Kids should jog from drill-to-drill. 10. Parents you are welcome to watch practice; however we ask that you do it only from the sidelines. 11. Please make sure that your son comes to practice prepared with his mouth guard, cleats, water and all of his equipment. 12. Players should hydrate themselves with at least one (1) quart (32 ounces) of water over the several hours before practices and games, as well as drinking water during all breaks during practices/games--if you come to the practice/game dehydrated, it is too late to hydrate. 13. If there is an issue with equipment, please contact Coach Golovan or Coach Borgman before practice. 14. The team will run at the end of each practice. 15. Each Saturday we will be performing a walk-through for Sunday s game. This practice will be in full gear, unless otherwise noted. II. Attendance Policy Once school starts, the coaches will conduct three practices per week for the rest of the season. The players are required to attend each and every practice. Birthday parties, scouts, other sport practices/games, professional sports games, and homework are not valid excuses for kids missing 2
3 practice or games homework is given sufficiently in advance so that the player can plan and adjust his schedule to make sure his work is complete. The coaches understand that for various acceptable reasons (illness, travel, funeral, etc.) a player may not be able to attend each and every practice. If a player is injured and cannot participate in drills, he should still attend practice to observe and learn in order to be mentally prepared to play when healthy. However, as a matter of fairness to the other players and the coaches, OCAA football has adopted the following attendance policy: 1. Coaches will check and keep track of each player s attendance at practice. 2. Any player absent for two (2) practices during the week of a game will not be eligible to play in the upcoming game. 3. Any player absent five (5) practices during the year will not be eligible to play in the next game. 4. Any player absent more than five (5) practices may be suspended and/or removed from the team. 5. The coaches reserve the right to suspend and/or declare a player ineligible for a game and/or practice if the coach in his and/or her sole discretion determines that a player is not properly prepared to play. This includes being consistently late to practice or leaving early from practice. III. Game 1. The team will play in the Wickliffe Midget Football League. This league is made up of teams from Wickliffe, Beachwood, and Orange. 2. The Wickliffe Midget Football League will determine the schedule. All games will played on Sunday afternoon at the Wickliffe Middle School field (coaches will provide directions). 3. If your son cannot make it to a game, please let us know two (2) weeks in advance. 4. Each player who fulfills their practice requirements will be eligible to dress for the game, at the coaches discretion. All dressed players will play. Those who are not eligible should still come to the game to support their team. 5. The league requires each player to be designated either offense or defense (for those teams with 22 players or more). 6. The coaches will determine positions based on ability, size, weight aggressiveness, knowledge of offense and/or defense. 7. The coaches can assure you there are no positions on offense and/or defense etched in stone. IV. Behavior The coaches expect each player (and parent) to be respectful of their teammates, coaches, officials, parents, and the other teams. The coaches will not tolerate any talking back, fighting, taunting and/or behavior in which the coach, in his and/or her sole discretion, determines to be detrimental to the team. The coach will attempt to meet with the individual player and his parents in effort to resolve any behavior issues. OCCA and the coaches reserve the right to remove any player from the team that cannot and/or will not modify their behavior. 3
