The contest is slated for Thursday at 7 p.m. inside the Vines Center. The Starting Five - Liberty s Top Storylines 1) Liberty will attempt to pick up its fi rst win of the season against Appalachian State for the second straight year. The Lady Flames posted a season-opening victory in Boone on Nov. 13, 2015, but only two current Liberty players (KK Barbour and Audrey Rettstatt) appeared in that game. 2) Liberty has defeated a Sun Belt opponent in each of the last two seasons, including a triumph at Georgia State on Nov. 30, 2014 and last year s victory at Appalachian State. 3) The Lady Flames will look to snap their three-game home losing streak, the team s longest run of losses at home since the season. 4) After Thursday, Liberty will only have one more home game in Eight of the Lady Flames next nine contests following the Appalachian State matchup will be played away from Lynchburg. 5) Freshmen have played a key role for Liberty during the season s fi rst two games. Three freshmen (Keyen Green, Ola Makurat and Lela Sellers) have started both contests. Meanwhile, freshmen paced the Lady Flames in scoring (Kierra Johnson-Graham) and rebounding (Green) against James Madison on Tuesday. Freshman Kierra Johnson-Graham gave the Lady Flames a second-half spark, fi nishing with a team-high 11 points in just 11 minutes off the bench. Liberty fell to 0-2 after struggling from both the fi eld (28.8 percent, 15-of-52) and the free throw line (50 percent, 13-of-26) for the second straight game. James Madison improved to 2-1 with its second straight win, despite Precious Hall (17 points, 6-of-22 FG) being held well below her 31.5 ppg scoring average. The Dukes became just the second in-state opponent to defeat Liberty in its last 17 Commonwealth clashes despite being limited to a season-low 62 points. Audrey Rettstatt scored all eight of her points after halftime for the Lady Flames, while Keyen Green grabbed a team-high eight boards. Aided by Johnson-Graham, the Liberty bench outscored James Madison s reserves, 27-5, and accounted for all fi ve of the Lady Flames triples for the game. Big Shoes to Fill Five seniors graduated from last year s team, including Katelyn Adams, Sadalia Ellis, Jaymee Fisher-Davis, Catherine Kearney and Ashley Rininger. Adams, Kearney and Rininger each stand 6-4 or taller. The Lady Flames won 117 games in fi ve years (Katelyn Adams, Catherine Kearney and Ashley Rininger s time on campus), including three Big South titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances. The Lady Flames fi ve seniors totaled 4,260 career points and 2,829 career rebounds. Big Shoes to Fill, Part 2 In total, Liberty lost 90.6 percent of its scoring from the season. Liberty s current roster had totaled 229 points (KK Barbour led with 65) and 201 rebounds (Barbour led with 61) for the Lady Flames, entering Current Lady Flames had started fi ve career games entering the season, including three starts by Audrey Rettstatt and two by Sheana Vega. Rettstatt is the only player on this year s team who had ever scored in double fi gures, while Barbour was the only Lady Flame with a double-digit rebounding game to her credit.
