USF tackles Santa Clara Sunday live on Comcast. The Dons secured a league road split last week, dispatching Pepperdine (64-60) in Malibu, completing the season series sweep of the Waves before falling at Loyola Marymount (65-52). The Gaels and the Broncos each recorded home splits last weekend against the Pacifi c Northwest schools with both beating Portland and falling to league-leading Gonzaga. The Dons looks for its fi rst win of the season against a WCC Bay Are foe after suffering a road sweep at Saint Mary s (84-77) and a double overtime loss at Santa Clara (89-82). DOMINIQUE CARTER SURPASSES 1,100 CAREER POINTS: A two-time All- West Coast Conference First Team selection, junior guard Dominique Carter is one of the most dynamic scorers in the league and is only the second player in program history to earn fi rst team selection as a freshman and sophomore. USF Hall-of- Famer Brittany Lindhe ( ) was the fi rst and is the only four-time fi rst team all-league pick in WCC history. Carter surpassed 1,000 career points at Hawaii (12/29/06) and enters Thursday s game against Saint Mary s with 1,168 career points in 81 career games (14.4). A 2006 WCC All-Tournament Team selection, Carter leads USF in scoring (14.1) and is second in fi eld goal percentage (.472). The Tracy native owns 19 career 20-point games with six already this season, the last a 23-point effort at Saint Mary s (1/18/07). CARTER CRACKS DONS TOP-10 CAREER SCORING CHART: Junior guard Dominique Carter enters the seventh week of the West Coast Conference schedule with 1,168 points, good for 10th place on the USF career scoring charts. USF Legend of the Hilltop Valerie Gillon ( ) currently sits in ninth place with 1,188 points. One of the league s most prolifi c scorers since her arrival on the Hilltop, Carter ranks fi fth in career scoring at 14.4 points per game. SHAY ROLLINS ROLLING OFFENSIVELY: Sophomore guard Shay Rollins has been on an offensive tear of late and over her last four West Coast Conference games averages 14.3 points per game, including a career-high 20 in USF s victory at Pepperdine (2/8/07). Rollins ranks second on the team in scoring during WCC games at 12.3 to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists. HEIDI HEINTZ HEATING UP THE HOOP: Freshman guard Heidi Heintz has enjoyed a sizzling start to West Coast Conference play, averaging 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, including a career-high 17 points against Pepperdine (1/13/07). Heintz is shooting.592 (29-49) from the fi eld, including.500 (6-12) from 3-point range. 2 USF WOMEN S BASKETBALL RELEASE PAGE TWO GAME #26 - Saint Mary s - West Coast Conference Game 11 SCOUTING SAINT MARY S: The Gaels (11-12, 5-5 WCC) have won every other game during West Coast Conference play and have neither won two in a row or lost two in a row in Saint Mary s picked up a home split last week in West Coast Conference action, falling to league-leading Gonzaga (78-68) before downing Portland (72-66). SMC averages 69.9 points per game, converting on.402 from the fi eld,.329 from 3-point range and do a nice job on the boards, pulling down 39.9 rebounds per night. Sophomore guard Jontelle Smith leads the team at 11.9 points and converts on.393 (44-112) from beyond the arc. Senior center Sheridan Arredondo adds 10.0 points and 4.8 rebounds, while senior forward Eghosa Obaiza chips in 8.5 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds. The league s top returning scorer for the second straight season, Carter scored 815 (14.6) in 56 career games, the highest underclassmen tally since USF Hall-of-Famer Brittany Lindhe ( ) recorded 882 (14.5) in 61 games. Last season Carter ranked fourth among league leaders in scoring and fi eld goal percentage (.477). The Tracy native became the fi rst junior since Carey Sauer ( ) to surpass 1,000 career points in her third season in the Green and Gold and ranks 10th in career scoring with 1,168. Carter enters Thursday s game against Saint Mary s needing 22 points to move into eighth place. Since her arrival, Carter has led the team in scoring 45 times, reached double-digit scoring 59 times with 19 games with 20 or more. NICKIE WARREN PRODUCING FOR THE GREEN AND GOLD: Senior forward Nickie Warren made an instant impact for USF last season, earning all-tournament honors at the 2005 Subway Classic (Minnesota), averaging a team-high 10.5 points. Warren recorded her fi rst career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against Rider (11/25/05) in the 2005 odwalla Classic, earning all-tournament honors for the second straight week. Warren registered her team-leading third double-double and second straight against Pepperdine (1/6/05) with 18 points and 10 rebounds (seven offensive) and poured in a career-high 21 against Loyola Marymount (1/8/06) to open the West Coast Conference campaign. Warren ranked eighth among league rebound (5.8) leaders and was sixth in fi eld goal percentage at.466 (83-178). Warren reached double-digit scoring 10 times and pulled down 10 or more rebounds in four games. The Mill Valley product opened the season in strong fashion, averaging 12.8 points and a team-high 10.5 rebounds per game and turned in her fourth career doubledouble with 10 points and a career-high 21 rebounds in the Dons home opener against Colorado State (11/17/06). Rollins scored a season-high 17 points against Cal Poly (11/29/05) and added 10 points and six rebounds against Pepperdine (1/6/05). Rollins scored 18 points at Cal Poly (12/2/06) and added 16 off the bench in USF s win against Florida State (12/20/06). Rollins continued her high scoring output during WCC games, matching her career-high with 18 points at Saint Mary s (1/18/07) and scored a career-high 20 points in a big win at Pepperdine (2/8/06). Rollins recorded her fi rst career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds at Santa Clara (1/20/07) and averages 11.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and a team-high 2.9 assists per game this season. PEACE A GOOD INFLUENCE FOR THE DONS: Junior guard Nykia Peace turned in a solid sophomore season for USF and erupted for her fi rst career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in her fi rst start of the year at Long Beach State (12/4/05). Peace set career-highs with 15 points and fi ve steals at Loyola Marymount (2/2/06) and recorded 10 rebounds against the Lions (1/8/06). Peace scored a season-high 12 points at Cal State Fullerton (12/18/06). Peace scored a career-high 18 points against Portland (1/27/07) and averages 5.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Dons. THE 50 S NOT FABULOUS FOR USF: USF s loss at Loyola Marymount (2/10/07) dropped the Dons to 1-11 on the season when they fail to score more than 60 points. Since the start of the season, San Francisco owns a 4-36 record when stuck in the 50 s. Dating to , USF owns a ledger when scoring less than 60 points. 4 USF WOMEN S BASKETBALL RELEASE PAGE FOUR DONS IMPROVING LONG DISTANCE CONNECTIONS: It took just 18 games for USF to eclipse the club s 3-pointer mark. The Dons connected on three from long distance against San Diego (2/3/07) and enter Thursday s game against Saint Mary s with 77 (3.2) on the year. Last season San Francisco managed just 55 (1.9) from beyond the arc, easily the worst in the West Coast Conference. On the season, the Dons average.258 (77-298) from deep. USF WOMEN S BASKETBALL LAY-UPS Team Briefs - USF completed a West Coast Conference season sweep of Pepperdine with a win in Malibu February 8. The Dons have taken five of the last six meetings against the Waves, including a sweep in LISA OLDEN LOOKS STRONG DURING JUNIOR SEASON: Junior center Lisa Olden showed fl ashes of brilliance as a sophomore in the Green and Gold and now looks for her most consistent season. Olden earned all-tournament honors at the odwalla Classic, averaging 12 points and 5.5 rebounds. Olden scored 15 points and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds off the bench against No. 22 Oklahoma (11/26/05) and did a strong job guarding Sooners All-American Courtney Paris. Olden turned in a career-high 17 points at Loyola Marymount (2/5/05). Olden posted her fi rst career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds against Colorado State (11/17/06) and turned in her second at San Jose State with 14 points and 12 rebounds in USF s overtime win. Olden notched her team-leading third double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Boise State (12/10/06). Olden scored a career-high 20 points at Santa Clara (1/20/07) and averages 7.6 points and 5.6 boards per game for the Dons in 24 starts. PASS THE HEINTZ: Freshman guard Heidi Heintz has been a pleasant surprise for USF this season. The Washington native scored 11 points against Boise State (12/10/06) and turned in her fi rst double-double of her career at Fresno State (12/16/06) with 10 points and a career-high 10 rebounds against the Bulldogs. The Spokane native exploded for a career-high 17 points - all in the second half - against Pepperdine (1/13/07). On the season, Heintz averages 6.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists on the year and ranks third on the team in WCC scoring at 8.3 points. RANDI RICHARDSON AT THE POINT: Freshman guard Randi Richardson is contributing in her fi rst season at USF. Richardson dished out a career-high fi ve assists in her second career game at Wyoming (11/12/06) and matched it with fi ve against Columbia (12/20/06). The Washington prep standout scored a career-high 10 points against San Diego (2/3/07) and ranks second on the team in steals (27) and is third in assists (1.9). MIHALCO CONNECTING FROM DEEP: Freshman guard Katie Mihalco has shown signs of producing for USF in her fi rst season in the Green and Gold. Mihalco scored a career-high 22 points in her third collegiate game against Colorado State (11/17/06). Mihalco leads the team in 3-pointers (9) and long range accuracy (.346). The Colorado native averages 4.6 points per game and leads the Dons in 3-pointers (12). USF POSTS PROLIFIC SECOND HALF VS. PEPPERDINE: USF came within three points of setting the program record for most in a half with a 57-point outburst against Pepperdine (1/13/07). The Dons scored a remarkable 60 points in the second half against Penn (1/12/80) before the 3-point line. It marked the fi rst time San Francisco scored 50 or more points in a half since tallying 53 in the second against Cal State Northridge (11/30/01). USF poured in 55 in the fi rst and 50 in the second of a blowout of UC Riverside (11/19/00). It is the eighth 50 point effort in a half dating to the campaign. USF IN WCC OPENERS: USF owns an record in West Coast Conference openers after falling at San Diego (1/7/07). 6 USF WOMEN S BASKETBALL RELEASE PAGE SIX WEEK 14 RECAP USF FALLS AT LOYOLA MARYMOUNT: USF wrapped up it Southern California road swing with a setback to Loyola Marymount Saturday in West Coast Conference women s basketball action at Gersten Pavilion. The Dons could not fi nd the answers against the Lions, who secured their eight straight win against USF. Junior guard Dominique Carter scored a team-high 14 points on 7-of-12 from the fi eld, while sophomore guard Shay Rollins chipped in 10 points for San Francisco. USF shot.382 (21-55) from the fi eld, but managed a woeful.077 (1-13) from 3-point range. The Dons scored 26 points in each half. LMU converted on.383 (23-60) but held a convincing rebound edge and dominated on the offensive glass San Francisco dug an early hole, trailing 16-8 with 10:55 remaining, but climbed back into it with a 14-4 run, taking a lead with a jumper by freshman guard Randi Richardson with 3:53 left. Carter and Peace led the Dons with six points apiece in the fi rst half. Neither team shot particularly well as USF hit at a.379 (11-29) rate, while LMU shot.367 (11-30). Both teams were ice cold from 3-point range, converting on a combined 1-for-14 from deep. Carter s bucket at 9:11 in the fi rst half gave her 1,160 career points good for sole possession of 10th place on the USF career scoring list. The Lions never trailed and broke out of a tie at 12:04 and rolled on a run to send the Dons to their fourth consecutive season series loss, dating back to DONS CRASH WAVES 64-60: USF opened its Southern California West Coast Conference swing Thursday night with an impressive victory against Pepperdine at Firestone Fieldhouse. The Dons snapped a fi ve-game losing streak and complete the season series sweep against the Waves for the fi rst time since Sophomore guard Shay Rollins a career-high 20 points, including 13 in the second half to lead the Dons attack. Junior center Lisa Olden added 16 points on 6-of-7 from the fl oor to go along with seven rebounds before fouling out in 27 minutes. Junior guard Dominique Carter added eight points, six coming in the last two minutes of the contest. San Francisco shot.440 (24-54) from the fi eld, while the Waves connected at a.420 (24-57) clip.
