I. IN SEASON: GRIZZLY FOOTBALL PLAYER POLICY MANUAL 1. Commitment: Everyone is counting on you. Communicate any problems with your position coach or the head coach. Failure to do so will only hurt your chance to be understood and develop into your potential. Once you start the season we expect everyone to finish. There are certain family or health related issues that may force you to leave the program for an indefinite amount of time. Make the decision not to play football either before of after the season. 2. Punctuality: Be on time for all meetings and practices. Contact the head coach personally if you have a conflict that will prevent you from being on time. It is expected that you schedule appointments during times outside of meeting or practice. Prior approval of any conflict is appreciated. If you re early - you re on time. If you re on time you re late. If you re late you re disrespecting the program - Coach Kichell 3. Participation: As a Varsity sport we compete at the highest level of interscholastic activities. Our goal is to win with honor. We will play the best players at the positions they are able to help the team. Players who are unexcused from practice or tardy will lose starting opportunities or see playing time noticeably diminished. A player will earn a Varsity letter if he participates in 50% of the quarters available. The exception being a senior who has participated in football for four years. The coaching staff can use discretion on injuries or other special circumstances. 4. Know your role: Each player has a role on this team that is significant to the team s success. You must understand your role and fulfill your role to the best of your abilities. Keep in mind your role could change from week to week due to injuries or unknown reasons. If you re not sure of your role, ask your coach. 5. Weight Training: You will be required to get a minimum of two lifts/week in order to play that week. Your second lift must be completed before Thursday s practice. 6. Discipline: Obey the student Code of Conduct and Student Athletic Code. In season, minor violations will be enforced after practice with the spin board. Major violations will be dealt with by the head coach on an individual basis.

Live Clean: No tobacco, alcohol, or drugs. Stealing from your teammates will result in immediate dismissal. Any arrest by the police will result in suspension and possible dismissal from the team. 7. Academics are a priority: You must pass five classes prior to your season of competition in order to be OSAA eligible. During the season you must have at least five C s and no F s in order to participate in competition. Student Athletes at risk will work with Stephanie Santos and Alison French to improve their academic standing. Eligibility during the season will be established on a weekly basis. Grades will be checked on Friday of each week. Students at risk have until Monday to improve their grades. Go to class and make an effort! 8. Media/Reporters: They can help promote our program, however they have a job to do and will report what they see or hear. Keep in mind the following guidelines. No one is to talk to a reporter without prior knowledge of the head coach. Never be critical of your opponent. Give them credit. Do not criticize coaches or players on our team. Be humble when we have success. Be complimentary to your teammates. Never compare coaches or players on our team. Never discuss strategy or plans. 9. Laundry: You are responsible for your uniform and practice equipment. Take pride in how you look. Wash you practice and game gear each week. 10. Team Meetings: Be on time. Hats are off. Feet on the ground. Cell phones off. Give who ever is speaking your undivided attention. 11. Team Video: Video is one the greatest teaching tools we have as we try to improve and prepare for an opponent. Everyone is required to attend Saturday video sessions to review the previous game. We will meet at lunch on red days and at 3pm on white days in order to watch opponent video or practice video. These sessions are highly recommended but not required if a student has a legitimate reason to miss. 12. Pre Game Meals: A long standing tradition at, all students will participate in the pregame meal program. Cost this year will be $25. Should you need assistance with this program please contact Coach Hall. Please turn in upfront money to the Athletic Office.

13. Team Travel: Travel on a charter bus (Eugene or North) will require a dress code determined at the start of the season. Such a trip will also require additional money for a pregame meal. After the game everyone must shower if they are returning on the bus. 14. Riding Home with Parents after a game: Players may ride home with parents after the game as long as the parent has contacted Coach Steve Mitzel after the game. Only players with notes signed by the principal or athletic director may ride with another family. 15. Spirit Pack: In order to look uniform and first class in our practice and travel, we have provided spirit packs to be purchased. Price will vary based on need. (Pacific Rim Bowl Players should already have their pack) Grizzly Football Shorts (new each year) You are required to wear issued Spirit Pack shorts on practice days we are in shells! Grizzly Football T- Shirt (new each year) Practice Jersey (new each year) Girdle with Pads (one time purchase) $ College Bound Athletes: Anyone aspiring to go to college, weather they participate in sports or not, must take the SAT or ACT. (SAT prep classes are available though Eric Danson at ) If you plan on planning sports, you must also register with the NCAA Clearinghouse. Initial collegiate eligibility is based on a sliding scale of test score and GPA of 16 core classes. All recruiting contacts need to be communicated with Coach Hall. Test dates in November and December could conflict with playoff games. 17. Injuries: Injuries are a part of sports and football is no different than many sports. You need to know the difference between pain and injury. Soreness is very common during fall camp and after competition. We do our best to get you in the best possible shape in order to enhance your recovery. All injuries and illnesses should be check and cleared with the athletic trainer first and then with a coach if the trainer is not available. A decision regarding playing after an injury is in the hands of the athletic trainer or medical team. When serious injuries occur, we recommend you follow our team protocol in order to get the student/athlete evaluated and diagnosed as quickly as possible. A rehabilitation program will be prescribed in order to allow the athlete to safely return to competition. If your insurance will not cover members of our medical staff, please notify the coaching staff if and when the situation comes up.

OFF SEASON 1. Participation: It is highly recommended for you to participate in other sports during the winter and spring. There is no replacement for training and competing at a high level. 2. Weight Training: If you are not involved in a winter or spring sport it is highly recommended that you participate in the off season strength and conditioning program. 3. Goal Setting: Every player is required to meet with the head coach during to spring to review and set goals for the upcoming season. 4. Senior Leadership Development: Once a month, starting second semester all senior players will meet to discuss topics related to leadership and the football program as a whole. SUMMER 1. Commitment: Summers can be very difficult when you are a multi-sport athlete. Communication is critical as we try to accommodate complex schedules. We will monitor attendance throughout the summer and recognize those players who have demonstrated the highest level of dedication. These players will get first come opportunities in the locker room and waivers for conditioning tests in August. Keep in mind the following: a. Weight Training is necessary to prevent injuries, increase muscle mass, and develop self confidence. b. Evening Passing League is critical to develop timing and execution in the passing game and pass defense. c. Summer Camp is mandatory (unless family emergency). We need this opportunity for team building and technique development.

(Sign and Tear and Return to Coach Hall ) I have read all the policies and expectations of being an Ashland Grizzly Football Player. By signing this form, I agree to uphold these policies and Ashland Football Tradition. Name Date Student Signature Parent Signature
