3 2017 Frankenmuth Football Game Summaries Frankenmuth 28 Bay City Central 21: Bay City jumped out to a 14 0 lead on two TD passes before the Eagles battled back scoring on a Zach Jacobs to Alec Yagiela 62-yard screen pass with 1:51 remaining in the opening half. On the ensuing possession, Garrett Rezmer forced a Bay City fumbled recovered by Conner Campbell and two plays later, Jacobs connected with Nick Hartman on a 22-yard TD pass and Kevin Heizman s PAT narrowed the Wolves lead to at the half. Mid way through the 3 rd quarter, Bay City upped their lead on a 25 yard pass. Midway through the 4 th quarter, the Wolves pinned the Eagles deep in their territory, but they responded going 90-yards in 12 plays capped by a Jacobs 15-yard run and Jacobs added the PAT to knot the score at with 2:20 remaining. The Eagle defense forced Bay City to punt and a bad snap gave the Eagles good field position. Two plays later, Jacobs again hooked up with Hartman on a 34-yard TD pass with 23 seconds remaining. The Eagles defense stopped Bay City s final drive giving the Eagles the victory. Jacobs led the offense with 125 yards rushing and 148 yards passing. Garrett Rezmer had 13 tackles followed by Nate Stone with 11 and Conner Campbell with 10 for the Eagle defense. Frankenmuth 27 North Branch 6: With 1:51 remaining in the opening quarter, Alec Yagiela sprinted 90-yards and Kevin Heinzman s PAT gave Frankenmuth a 7 0 lead. With 3:14 remaining in the 2 nd quarter, Zach Jacobs scored from 7-yards on a QB keeper and the Eagled took a 13 0 lead into half. Jacobs scored again late in the 3 rd quarter on a 46-yard run. North Branch got on the scoreboard in the 4 th quarter on a 10-yard pass but on the ensuing possession, Yagiela scored on a 40-yard run for the 27 6 final. The Eagles outgained the Bronco s 358 yards to 147, led by Yagiela s 151 yards rushing and Jacob s 128 yards. The defense was led by Garrett Rezmer s 14 tackles, Nate Stone 13 and Ronald Mandeville added 11 tackles. Frankenmuth 42 Garber 24: Mid way through the 1 st quarter, Alec Yagiela scampered 37 yards for a TD and Kevin Heinzmans s PAT gave the Eagles an early lead. Late in the opening quarter, the Dukes narrowed the score to 7 6 on a 4-yard TD pass but missed the PAT. Both teams scored two TD s in the 2 nd quarter with Zach Jacobs scoring both of Frankenmuth s TD s on runs of 3 & 4 yards and the Eagles took a lead into halftime. Garber took the lead in the 3 rd quarter on an 80 yard TD pass to take a lead. The Eagles drove deep into Dukes territory only to lose on a fumble but on the next play, Hunter Schluckebier intercepted a pass and took it back to the one-yard line and Jacobs took in for a 1-yard TD and Schluckebier ran in the 2-pt PAT and the Eagles took a lead. Frankenmuth added two 4 th quarter scores with Jacobs scoring from 49-yards on the 1 st play of the 4 th quarter and Ryan Khan added a 3-yard TD run mid way through the final quarter after Drew Martin intercepted a Garber pass. The Eagles totaled 511 yards of offense, with 449 yards on the ground. Jacobs rushed for 101 yards with Khan adding 90 yards and Yagiela 75 yards. Nate Stone led the defense with 15 tackles. Frankenmuth 61 Tawas 6: The Eagles jumped out to a st quarter leads on TD runs by Ryan Khan and Hunter Schluckebier and Zach Jacobs TD passes to Nick Hartman and Khan. Jacobs added two more TD passes in the 2 nd quarter to Khan and Mario Whitley. Tawas lone TD came on the 2 nd quarter on an 8-yard TD pass. Frankenmuth added two 2 nd half TD runs in the second half with Jacobs and Conner Campbell scores. Khan scored two rushing and two receiving TD s to lead the offense which tallied 546 yard of offense. Jacobs was 8 of 9 passing for 251 yards and 4 TD passes. Nate Stone was the leading tackler with 8. Frankenmuth 47 Bridgeport 42: The Bearcats scored first on a Garrett to Ball 24-yard TD pass and the 2-pt PAT gave them an 8 0 lead. Zach Jacobs rambled 48- yards at the 3:10 mark of the opening quarter and Bridgeport took a narrow 8-7 lead at the end of the 1 st quarter. Bridgeport scored three passing touchdowns in the 2 nd quarter while Jacobs scored from three yards and Bridgeport had a lead with one second remaining in the half when Mario Whitley returned a kickoff 71 yards for a TD and a score at the half. The Bearcats upped their lead to midway through the 3 rd on two more Garrett TD passes before Jacobs scored at the 6:55 mark of the quarter on a 57-yard TD run to narrow the lead to On the ensuing Bearcat possession, the Eagle forced a three and out forcing a punt. Frankenmuth went on a 10-play 76 yard drive with Conner Campbell scoring on a 3-yard run with 2:50 remaining in the 3 rd quarter and entering the 4 th quarter, the Eagles trailed At the 7:11 mark of the 4 th quarter, the Eagles culminated a 15-play 89 yard drive with Hunter Schluckebier scoring on a 23-yard TD run, but the Eagle PAT was missed and Bridgeport clung to a lead. On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles recovered the onside kick and with 3:23 remaining, Jacobs scored his 4 th rushing TD of the game on a 6-yard TD. On the ensuing Bridgeport possession, Campbell intercepted a Bearcat pass and the Eagle offense was able to run out of the clock in a come from behind victory. The Eagles totaled 431 yards of offense with 429 yards rushing. Bridgeport gained 382 yards with 339 yards in the passing department. Jacobs gained 220 yards on 29 attempts. Schluckebier and Nate Stone each recorded 6 tackles and Drew Martin also intercepted a pass. Frankenmuth 41 Birch Run 3: On the opening kickoff, Luke Scharerr forced a fumble and Drew Martin recovered and two plays later Zach Jacobs connected with Mario Whitley on a 22-yard TD pass and Kevin Heinzman added the PAT and quick 7 0 lead. After the Eagle defense forced a Panther punt, Heinzman scampered 65 yards at the 9:04 mark and Heinzman s PAT gave them a 14 0 lead. On the ensuing Birch Run possession, Jacob Brownell intercepted a pass and three plays later Jacobs scored from 3-yards. Late in the opening quarter, Birch Run would score it s lone points on a 32-yard field goal. On the first play of the 2 nd quarter, Jacobs would score from 2 yards to up the Eagle lead to Conner Campbell and Alec Yagiela would each score TD runs on 1-yard and 64 yard runs respectively. There was no scoring in the 2 nd half. The Eagles totaled 394 yards of offense with Yagiela gaining 128 yards and Heinzman 107 yards. Jacobs was 5 of 5 passing for 108 yards. Shiloh Kotch led the defense with 13 tackles. Frankenmuth 28 Millington 22: After the two teams exchanged possessions, Ryan Khan scored from 31-yards at the 6:50 mark of the opening quarter and Kevin Heinzman added the first of his four PAT s. Early in the 2 nd quarter, Millington would take the lead on a 3-yard TD pass and a 2-pt conversion for an 8 7 lead. The Eagles would dominate the 2 nd quarter with Alec Yagiela sprinted 62 yards at the 8:25 mark and at the 2:40 mark Khan scored from 3-yards. Late in the 2 nd quarter, Ronald Mandeville recovered a fumble deep in Cardinal territory and two plays later Jacobs would connect with Nick Hartman on a 19-yard TD pass and a 28 8 halftime lead. The 3 rd quarter was scoreless despite the Eagles driving down to the Millington 1-yard line only to turn it over on downs. At the 2:12 mark of the 4 th quarter, Shreves from Millington scored from 13-yards and the ensuing onside kick was recovered by the Cardinals and with 56 seconds remaining, Millington scored on a 12-yard pass, narrowing the Eagle lead to The Eagles were able to recover the Millington onside kick and were able to run out of the clock. Frankenmuth outgained the Cardinals 322 yards to 254 yards. The Eagle defense sacked Millington QB Bryce Bearss six times led by Luke Scharerr s three sacks. Nate Stone was the leading tackler with 15 followed by Shiloh Kotch s 11 tackles. Jacobs led the rushers with 105 yards followed by Yagiela s 97 yards. Frankenmuth 55 Caro 0: On the opening Caro possession, Drew Martin stripped the Tiger ball carrier and the Eagles offense to advantage scoring with 8:41 remaining in the opening quarter on a Karrington Riggins 2-yard run. On the final play of the 1 st quarter, Alec Yagiela sorinted 75 yards to give the Eagles a 13 0 lead. Ryan Khan would score twice in the 2 nd quarter on runs of 51 & 17 yards. Zach Jacobs connected with Mario Whitley also in the 2 nd quarter on a 17-yard TD pass and the Eagles led 34 0 at the half. Jacobs would add a 3 rd quarter score on a 28-yard run. Conner Campbell would score twice in the 4 th quarter on 16 and 1 yard runs. Frankenmuth would tally 460 yards of offense with 438 yards rushing led by Kevin Heinzman s 114 yards rushing and Khan s 102 yards. Luke Scharerr and Jacob Brownell led the defense with 7 tackles and Austin Johnson recovered a fumble. The victory gave the Eagles their 6 th consecutive Tri-Valley East Championship, a program record. Frankenmuth 20 Freeland 7: Freeland scored on the opening possession of the game on a 2-yard run to take a early 7 0 lead. With 2:12 remaining in the opening quarter, Zach Jacobs scored on a 2-yard run and Kevin Heinzman s PAT tied the score. Late in the 2 nd quarter, Drew Martin intercepted a Falcon pass and with 1:48 remaining in the 2 nd quarter, Jacobs scored again on a 3-yard run and the Eagles took a 14 7 lead into halftime. Martin picked off his 2 nd interception of the game but the Eagles fumbled deep in Freeland territory. The Eagle defense got the ball right back on a Hunter Schluckebier fumble recovery only to have Frankenmuth fumble the ball back to the Falcons. At the 4:45 mark of the 4 th quarter, Jacobs connected with Nick Hartman on a 58 yard TD pass upping the Eagle lead to The Frankenmuth defense stopped a last ditch effort by Freeland to secure the victory and a 9 0 regular season record.
4 2017 PLAYOFF SEASON GAME SUMMARIES Frankenmuth 31 Almont 28: In a Pre-District Playoff contest, the Eagles and the Almont Raiders played a scoreless 1 st quarter. At the 10:00 mark of the 2 nd quarter, Zach Jacobs connected with Mario Whitley on a 38-yard TD pass and the Kevin Heinzman PAT gave the Eagles a 7 0 lead. Late in the first half, the Eagles drove deep into Raider territory settling for a Heinzman 25-yard field goal and a 10 0 lead at the half. On the opening drive of the second half, Frankenmuth went 70-yards on 7 plays ending with a Jacobs 5-yard run. At the 3:52 mark of the 3 rd quarter, Almont scored on a Rinke 3-yard run, but the missed PAT gave the Eagles a 17 6 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Hunter Schluckebier went 83-yards for a TD and a 24 6 Eagle lead. At the 5:01 mark of the 4 th quarter, Almont narrowed the lead to scoring on a 1-yard run and a successful 2-point conversion. The Raiders executed a perfect on-side kick and three plays later they scored on a 1-yard run and with 4:11 remaining, the Eagles held a narrow lead. Frankenmuth was forced to punt and with 16 seconds remaining, Almont scored on a 20-yard TD pass and a lead. The ensuing kickoff, Schluckebier scored his second kickoff return TD on an 84-yard return and with 2 seconds remaining, Frankenmuth led The Almont kickoff return was stopped and Frankenmuth won a dramatic playoff victory. Alec Yagiela led the Eagles rushers with 72 yards on 15 attempts. Luke Scharrer led the defense with 10 tackles. Frankenmuth 42 Marine City 23: In a District Championship match, the Marine City Mariners got on the board first late in the 1 st quarter on 6-yard TD run, but on the ensuing kickoff Ryan Khan returned a kickoff 70-yards and Kevin Heinzman s PAT knotted the score at 7 7. Midway through the 2 nd quarter, the Mariners kicked a 27- yard field goal to take a 10 7 lead. Only fifteen seconds later, the Eagles scored on a Zach Jacobs 55-yard TD pass to Hunter Schluckebier. The PAT was missed and Frankenmuth held a lead. At the 4:15 mark of the 2 nd quarter, Marine City again regained the lead on a 14-yard TD pass. Late in the quarter, the Eagles drove 52 yards in 8 plays, scoring on a 2-yard TD pass from Jacobs to Khan with one second remaining in the half, giving Frankenmuth a halftime lead. On the opening drive on the 2 nd half, it only took the Mariners 3 plays to regain the lead on a 7-yard TD pass and a lead. At the 3:54 mark of the 3 rd quarter, the Eagles got the lead for good on an Alec Yagiela 29-yard burst into the end zone and the Khan 2-pt conversion run. At the 9:24 mark of the 4 th quarter, Jacobs connected with Mario Whitley on a 31-yard TD pass and Conner Campbell s 2-pt conversion run upped the Frankenmuth lead to On the ensuing Mariner possession, back to back sacks by Ronald Mandeville and Jacobs ended a Mariner drive and six plays later, Schluckebier sprinted 35 yards for a TD for the final. Drew Martin picked off a Mariner pass in the end zone to solidify the District Championship. The Eagles outgained Marine City 307 yards to 306 yards. Yagiela and Khan were the leading rushers with 69 and 66 yards respectively. Jacobs was 6 of 11 passing for 138 yards and three TD s. Shiloh Kotch was the leading tackler with 10. Frankenmuth 17 Algonac 7: In a Regional Championship game the Algonac Muskrats and Frankenmuth Eagles defenses controlled action to begin the game. Hunter Schluckebier forced a fumble and Ryan Khan recovered a fumble mid way through the 1 st quarter. At the 8:38 mark of the 2 nd quarter, the Eagle offense completed a 16 play 72 yard drive capped by a Zach Jacobs 1-yard sneak and a Kevin Heinzman PAT gave the Eagles a 7 0 lead. Algonac was driving late in the 2 nd quarter when the Eagles defense forced an interception caught by Nate Stone who rambled 63 yards down to the Muskrat 25-yard line. Three plays later Jacobs went 17 yards to paydirt and Frankenmuth took a 14 0 lead into halftime. On the opening possession of the 2 nd half, Stone sacked the Algonac QB forcing a punt, but on the every next play, Frankenmuth lost a fumble deep in their territory and on a 4 th down and 10 play, Moss connected with Nick Folkerts on a 16-yard TD pass and the Eagle lead was narrowed to On the ensuing kickoff, Algonac recovered the onside kick. The Eagle defense stood tall forcing the Muskrats to turn the ball over on downs. Frankenmuth again put together a long drive of 15 plays and 69 yards finished off by a Heinzman 25-yard field goal and a 17 7 lead. The Eagles defense was able to stop the ensuing Muskrat drive keyed by an Ethan Yatsevich QB sack. The Eagles took over possession with 3:53 remaining and were able to end the game in the victory formation and the Regional Championship. The Eagles totaled 227 yards of offense while limiting the Muskrats to 161 yards. Frankenmuth controlled the time of possession 27:40 to 20:20. Jacobs rushed for 74 yards on 18 attempts. Stone was the leading tackler with 8 stops and Yatsevich collected two QB sacks. Grand Rapids West Catholic 25 Frankenmuth 21: The Eagles traveled to Fenton High School in a Semi-Final against Grand Rapids West Catholic. On the opening drive of the game, the Eagle defense forced a West Catholic punt and the Eagles drove 42 yards in 8 plays capped by a Zach Jacobs 8-yard run and Kevin Heinzman added the first of his three PAT s to give the Eagles an early 7-0 lead. On the ensuing drive, the Frankenmuth defense again forced a three and out. The Eagles marched on a 13- play, 59 yard drive with Jacobs sneaking in from 1-yard out at the 10:54 mark of the 2 nd quarter and Frankenmuth was leading On the ensuing kickoff, the Eagles recovered the squib kick but the Eagles fumbled the ball away deep in West Catholic territory. The defense forced another three and out, forcing a Grand Rapids punt and six plays later, Jacobs scored his third TD of the game on a 1-yard run and at the 5:53 mark of the 2 nd quarter, Frankenmuth led West Catholic would get there first score on a 70 yard Vallone to Dorato TD pass. Luke Scharrer blocked the PAT and the Eagle led was 21 6 with 3:58 remaining in the half. West Catholic regained possession and drove 75 yards in 14 plays, capped by a 1-yard run with 21 seconds remaining. The two-point conversion was stopped and the Eagles took a lead into halftime. On the opening drive of the 2 nd half, the Frankenmuth offense drove deep into West Catholic territory, only to turn it over on downs. Late in the 3 rd quarter, an Eagle punt pinned West Catholic deep in their territory but they put together a 11 play 94 yard drive with Vallone scoring again on a 1-yard run and PAT narrowed the Eagle lead to with 10:51 remaining in the game. The Frankenmuth offense was unable to muster a first down and was forced to punt. West Catholic put together the game winning drive scoring with 5:17 remaining in the 4 th quarter on a 4 yard run and a missed PAT gave West Catholic a lead. The Eagle offense attempted to put together a late drive but turned the ball over on downs. The Frankenmuth defense forced a punt attempt but the West Catholic punter fumbled the ball at their own 32-yard line with 32 seconds remaining. The Eagles threw an interception with 15 seconds remaining and West Catholic captured the win by a score. West Catholic outgained Frankenmuth 309 yards to 250 yards. Jacobs led the rushing attack with 108 yards on 21 attempts. The Eagle defense was led by Conner Campbell and Nate Stone with 11 tackles each followed by Hunter Schluckebier s 10 stops.
