Frank led the team with 11 kills and didn t make an error in 15 attempts for a hitting percentage of.733. Alexia Souza averaged 10.3 assists per set with 31 for the match. 3 MATCH 2 at ALCORN STATE 2018 WILEY COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL NOTEWORTHY SEASON OPENERS The Lady Wildcats are 4-9 in season openers since Friday s victory was the first season-opening victory since which Wiley College also swept Philander Smith College. PUTTING TWO TOGETHER Wiley College is seeking its first 2-0 start since 2009 when it defeated Huston-Tillotson and College of St. Mary. The Lady Wildcats finished the season 21-5 and reached the Red River Athletic Conference championship game. QUICK WORK The Lady Wildcats needed only 58 minutes and 109 rallies to defeat Philander Smith College on Friday. Under Mike MacNeill it was Wiley College s second fastest sweep. In 2017, it swept Jarvis Christian College in 104 rallies on October 19. SHIELDING THE ATTACK Wiley College held Philander Smith College to a (-).111 hitting percentage in the season opener. This is the fifth match under Mac- Neill which the Lady Wildcats held their opponent to a negative hitting percentage. HOLDING THE ACE The Lady Wildcats recorded nine service aces against Philander Smith College and only gave up three. Under MacNeill, Wiley College is 10-1 when it records more service aces. CONFERENCE LEADERS After Friday s Season opener, the Lady Wildcats have clawed their way onto the Red River Athletic Conference leaderboard. Khrystyna Frank is leading with 3.7 kills per set and.733 hitting percentage. Alexia Souza leads the conference with 10.3 assists per set. RECORD BOOK TRACKER Miyah Keller needs 14 digs to move into third on the career digs list. With six in the season opener, Keller is at 712. Olena Fedorenko ranks in the Top 20 in kills (284), Aces (54) and blocks (203). With three aces against Philander Smith College, Fedorenko moves into 13th on the all-time career list REWIND After dropping three of its first four matches, Wiley College won five straight games and started conference with a 4-0 record. The Lady Wildcats suffered setbacks against Our Lady of the Lake University and Huston-Tillotson. They closed out the first half of conference with a five -set win over St. Thomas Houston. After losing three of the next four matches - including losses against Our Lady of the Lake and Huston-Tillotson, the Lady Wildcats went on a six-game winning streak. Wiley College finished fourth in the conference with a 9-5 record. In the conference tournament, Wiley College beat St. Thomas-Houston for the third time this season and second on its home court for a quarterfinal victory. The season came to an end with a loss to the eventual champion Our Lady of the Lake. Wiley College finished RETURNING WITH HONORS The Lady Wildcats return five players that earned Red River Athletic Conference honors in Alexia Souza and Olena Fedorenko were First Team All-Conference selections - with Souza also earning Newcomer of the Year. Tsvetelina Bozhanova earned Second Team All-Conference and Renata Da Silva and Alissa Johnson were honorable mentions. VETERAN LEADERSHIP Nine of the Lady Wildcats 15 players are upperclassmen. Tsvetelina Bozhanova and Miyah Keller are the only seniors on the roster that bolsters seven juniors, two sophomores and four freshmen. In MacNeill s first season he had four seniors, three juniors, four sophomores and three freshman. FRESHMEN FOUR Wiley College has four freshmen entering the fold in Alia Scott, Akyhya Hudson, Charlesetta Arnold and Khrystyna Frank who was an MVP of a Ukrainian Championship. Scott was one of the top defensive players for Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas. SOPHOMORE SUCCESSES Olena Fedorenko and Renata Da Silva showed major improvement in their sophomore seasons last year. Fedorenko increased her numbers in kills (124 to 153) and hitting percentage (.249 to.296). Da Silva, who played in 51 sets in her freshmen season, played 85 sets in 23 matches last season. She put up a career high 91 kills and 63 blocks. Da Silva improved her hitting percentage from negative.014 to.176.

4 2018 WILEY COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL MATCH 2 at ALCORN STATE LAST MATCH Lady Wildcats open season with a sweep The Wiley College volleyball team put on an impressive performance in its 2018 season opener, as it swept Philander Smith College (Ark.) (25-10, 25-14, 25-10) in front of its home fans Friday in Alumni Gymnasium. This is the first time the Lady Wildcats have won their season opener since 2015 which was also at home against Philander Smith College. The Lady Panthers had no answer for Wiley College's relentless attack which tallied 37 kills in 62 attempts. The Lady Wildcats held Philander Smith to 12 kills in 54 attempts for a hitting percentage of (-).111. "We came out to play," head coach Mike MacNeill said. "I saw a lot of good things from us. We accomplished most of our goals for tonight. We gave up a three-point run from one of their servers, who got a couple of aces on us. Other than that, I liked what I saw." Wiley College never trailed in the match and was only briefly tied at the beginning of the second set. In the first and third set, the Lady Wildcats held their largest lead at 15. The Lady Wildcats recorded nine serving aces to Philander Smith's three. Wiley College had more digs with 24 to the Lady Panthers 13. LAST MATCH VS. ALCORN STATE ( ) Lady Wildcats split three-way LORMAN, Miss. The Wiley College volleyball team overcame a two-set deficit to defeat Alcorn State University but fell short against William Carey College Tuesday at Alcorn State University. The Lady Wildcats (8-8, 5-4 in Red River Athletic Conference) move their road record to 3-4. The victory over the Lady Braves was the Lady Wildcats' first against a NCAA school since beating Centenary College in The Lady Wildcats moved to 21 in five-set matches. Against Alcorn State University, Wiley College dominated the third set with 14 kills in 30 attempts. It won a close fourth set to even the match. Tsvetelina Bozhanova recorded two kills and Jayme Bazile and Renata Da Silva combined for a block to help Wiley College pull away in the fifth set (21-25, 23-25, 25-13, 25-21, 15-11). Bazile recorded 15 kills in 35 attempts for a.400 hitting percentage. She also led the team with 17 digs in the absence of libero Miyah Keller. Bazile also tallied the most service aces with three.

10 2018 WILEY COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL MATCH 2 at ALCORN STATE HEAD COACH MIKE MACNEILL 2nd Season Mike MacNeill became the first male head volleyball coach in Lady Wildcat history on June 2, In his first season, he guided the Lady Wildcats to a mark and 9-5 in Red River Athletic Conference play. Wiley College reached the conference tournament semifinals for the third consecutive season. MacNeill coached the Red River Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Alexia Souza, First Team All- Conference selections Jayme Bazile and Olena Fedorenko. Tsvetelina Bozhanova and Taylor Barnes earned Second Team. Alissa Johnson and Renata Da Silva were honorable mentions. Bazile earned All- Tournament. MacNeill was previously was the head volleyball coach at Riverside Poly High School in California. He turned a program that had not won a match into a contender for the league title. In his final season Riverside Poly went 23-3 reaching the semifinals in the CIF Southern Section Championship Tournament. Prior to coaching at Riverside Poly, Coach MacNeill coached girls volleyball at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, California. He led that program to the CIF Southern Section Division 1A Quarterfinals and Semifinals in In 2012, MacNeill set the record at Liberty High School for most wins in a season. Coach MacNeill also started the Golden Valley Volleyball Club in 2013 which produced two Division I collegiate athletes. He has grown the club to 65 girls. Coach MacNeill excelled as a volleyball player in high school and college. He helped Clovis High School win back to back CIF Championships in his junior and senior year. At California Baptist University he helped them to two NAIA National Championships. He has played every position on the volleyball court.
