1 Coach Jeff Gordon Coach Jeff Gordon enters his 24 th year of coaching at Sunny Hills HS. Jeff began his coaching career with the Brea-Olinda HS Men s soccer team and stayed there 4 years before coming to SHHS in Jeff is entering his 28 th consecutive high-school soccer season. Coach Gordon became Head Coach in 1993 with the retirement of his father, Kenn Gordon. The Lancers have won 17 Freeway League Championships, 5 League runner-up s, 22 CIF appearances, 2 CIF Titles, 3 CIF Finalists, 3 Semi-Finalists, 6 CIF Quarter-Finalists in his 23 seasons at SHHS. Jeff has coached 4 CIF Players of the year, 2 Orange County Players of the Year, and 12 Freeway League MVP s. 98 of his players have made All-League, and 49 have been selected All-CIF. Every Class has won at least 2 league championships. As a player, Jeff played four seasons at Brea-Olinda HS and led his team to the 1986 CIF Championship scoring the clinching goal. He was named Orange League MVP, 1 st All-CIF & 1 st Team All-County (OC Register & LA Times). His 14 goals and 24 assists led the team. His 24 assists set a school single season record that lasted for 21 years. Jeff went on to play two seasons at Fullerton College where he was team captain, All-Conference and All American. Jeff coached at Cypress College for six seasons helping them to the 2004 State Championship and 5 Conference titles. Jeff also coached in the AC Brea Club for seven years and served as technical director for the last four. The Gordon Family: Adrienne, Soon-Ya, Aaron & Coach Gordon
2 Coach Emeritus Kenn Gordon ( ) Coach Kenn Gordon began the Sunny Hills Girl s Soccer program during the season. He was Head Coach for 12 years until his retirement from Sunny Hills in He led the Lady Lancers to 3 Freeway League Championships, 2 League Runner-ups, 8 CIF appearances and a CIF Semi-Finals appearance in his final year as Head Coach. Kenn was a teacher at Sunny Hills HS from and taught Graphic Arts and U.S. History. Coach Gordon was also an active member of the Southern California Coaches Association were he served as a Division Coordinator and League Rep for years. He was also on the CIF Soccer Advisory Committee. Upon retiring, Coach Gordon was the Lady Lancers #1 fan as he maintained numerous websites (Maxpreps, Myscore, OC Register) over the years. Before every game he would send his son a text message wishing the team well and some coaching advice too. Every year when the team advanced to the Semi s he made a special trip out from Arizona to join the team and the coaching staff. We never lost with him on the sidelines! Kenn passed away surrounded by his family on December 30 th, We will forever miss his love and support and know that he will always be watching over us! The 2011 Varsity team dedicated the remaining of the season to Coach Gordon and went on to win the 2011 Freeway League Championship in his honor. KG81 will be remembered forever! We love you Pops! Coach Gordon with his famous SHHS Champions Parka. To live in hearts we leave behind is to never die.
3 Coach Erick Hurtarte Coach Erick began working with the Lady Lancers during the season and has really helped take our program to the next level. Since his arrival, Sunny Hills has won two CIF titles 2005 & 2007, CIF Finalists in 2009, 2012 & 2013, CIF Semi-finalists in 2010 and Freeway League Champions in seven of his eight years with the Lancers. An amazing run! Erick brings a talent for tactical adjustments and sideline experience necessary to win the biggest games. Erick was a four year Varsity starter at Bell Gardens HS. He scored the game winning goals to lead his team to the 1991 CIF title and was named 1991 CIF Player of the Year. Erick went onto play at Chapman College were has was selected All-American and led his team to the National Final Four. Erick has an impressive coaching resume. He has coached at Fullerton College, Saddleback College, Bell Gardens HS and currently is an Assistant Head Coach with the Cypress College Women s soccer team. He has been a part of 5 CIF or State Championship teams. Erick is currently the Director of Coaching for the OC Premier Soccer Club. Coach Sergio Miramontes Sergio began as Program Goal-keeper Coach during the season. Sergio played on the first ever SHHS Men s team in 1981 and was selected All-Freeway League in In 2010, Sergio took the job as our Head Penalty Kick Coach and has led the girls to Seven PK victories over the past four seasons, including a win in the Aliso Cup Championship Game in Sergio brings a calm energy, a love for soccer and a heart for the players to the program. We love you Serg!
4 Coach Eddie Morales Coach Eddie Morales is entering his 1 st year as our new Head JV Coach. Eddie has been a volunteer for our program for the past 5 years and has worked with both Varsity & JV as our strength and conditioning coach. Eddie brings a positive message to the girls and is famous for telling all the players that they are CHAMPIONS! We welcome Eddie to the coaching staff and know that he will continue our great Junior Varsity tradition! Coach Raeleen Martinez Raeleen joined the Junior Varsity Coaching Staff in 2012 and helped lead the team to the 2013 Freeway League Championship. Raeleen played on 1 JV Freeway League Championship team and 2 Varsity Freeway League Championship teams. In her Senior year, Raeleen won the prestigious 2009 Kenn Gordon Coaches Award as an outstanding teammate and leader. After graduating in 2009, Raeleen is attending Cal St. Fullerton and is working on her degree in Kinesiology. Coach AJ Arenas Coach AJ Arenas is entering his 1 st year with the Lancers. AJ was a varsity GK for the men s program and will be training all of our goal-keepers this year. AJ will also be assisting the Junior Varsity team. AJ currently attends Vanguard University and is a member of the Men s Soccer team.
5 Principal Judy Fancher Welcome to the 2013/2014 Lady Lancer Soccer season. Soccer provides an opportunity for athletes to set goals that require perseverance and discipline at an individual and team level. We are proud of every player who accepts the physical and mental challenge to compete in high school athletics. We look forward to another exciting season as the team competes for the top spot in Freeway League play and looks towards CIF success. Coach Jeff Gordon and the assistants continue to develop a positive and competitive team that earns the respect of all their opponents. 6 Freddy Morales Freddy has been the Sunny Hills High School Equipment Manager for the past 26 years. Freddy is responsible for making sure all of our soccer fields are lined and ready to go and that every player has water. Freddy is a big help to us throughout the year, including the summer, where he provides ice and support for the snack stand. You can often see Freddy cheering on the teams throughout league and the CIF play-off s. He has been a great supporter of our program from Day #1. Thanks Freddy! Athletic Trainer Emily Bauer Emily Bauer is the head of the SHHS Athletic Medicine Department. She is a certified athletic trainer and a professional rescuer. She will work with all Lancer athletics in junction with Fullerton Physical Therapy and Sports Care. In 2010 Emily graduated from Cal State Northridge with her bachelor of science in athletic training. She then received her masters in sports medicine and injury studies from Cal State Long Beach in Emily has worked at all competitive levels and with a multitude of sports. Some of her places of work include: University of Southern California, College of the Canyons, Moorpark College, Beverly Hills High School, and Woodward West Extreme Sports. She currently resides in Long Beach and is very excited to be apart of the Sunny Hills family.
7 Coach Emeritus Brian Wall AKA BWALL After leading the JV Girls Soccer Team to an Undefeated 2013 Freeway League Championship, BWALL has stepped aside from his coaching duties to spend more time with his family. We are so thankful for the 7 years of wonderful coaching and leadership. Brian has decided to continue his support of the Lady Lancers behind the scenes as a Coach Emeritus for the program.
