2 Review Notebook The Terrapins made their 14th consecutive postseason appearance by earning the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland finished the season 25-9, marking the 11th straight season the Terps have won at least 19 games. The Terrapins finished with a 10-6 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference, which tied for the second-best record in the league. Maryland s 10 conference victories was its highest win total in league play since Maryland finished the season ranked 18th in the Associated Press Poll and 23rd in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Terps were 13th in the Sagarin Ratings and finished the year 16th in RPI. Maryland s scheduled was ranked the 15th toughest in the nation. Season Honors D.J. Strawberry Second Team All-ACC ACC-All Defensive Team All-District III (USBWA) Ekene Ibekwe All-ACC Honorable Mention ACC-All Defensive Team Maryland s 25 victories was the highest single-season win total since the Terrapins won 32 games en route to the 2002 National Championship. The Terps 25 wins was tied for the fourth-highest win total of any Gary Williams-led team. The Terps finished the season 3-0 against Duke and North Carolina, marking the first time since that Maryland swept the Blue Devils and Tar Heels. With wins over Davidson, High Point, NC State and Wake Forest, Maryland swept the entire state of North Carolina for the first time since James Gist All-ACC Honorable Mention Greivis Vasquez >> ACC All-Freshman Honorable Mention Scoring 79.0 points per game, the Terps ranked second in the ACC and 13th nationally in scoring offense. The Terrapins led the ACC in three-point field goal percentage (.385). Maryland averaged 17.3 assists, which ranked second in the league and 14th nationally. Maryland was among the nation s best defensive teams in The Terps led the ACC and were eighth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.389). Maryland was tops in the ACC and fifth in the country for blocked shots (6.9 bpg). The Terrapins also led the ACC in three point field goal percentage defense (.302). Three Maryland seniors joined an elite club during as Ekene Ibekwe, Mike Jones and D.J. Strawberry each reached the 1,000-point plateau. Jones finished his career 30th on Maryland s all-time scoring list with 1,180 points. Strawberry tallied 1,126 career points to finish in 35th place, while Ibekwe recorded 1,109 points to rank 37th in scoring all-time. Strawberry was named Second Team All-ACC as a senior. He finished 11th in the ACC in scoring (14.9 ppg) and ranked ninth in field goal percentage (.477). Strawberry was also named to the ACC All-Defensive Team as he paced the Terrapins and ranked fourth in the ACC in steals per game (2.03 spg). He was a three-time ACC Player of the Week honoree and was named to the USBWA All-District Team. Ekene Ibekwe James Gist In Review Ibekwe was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team and garnered honorable mention All-ACC plaudits. He led the league and was 15th in the country with 2.7 blocked shots per game and ranked fourth in rebounds (7.8 rpg). Ibekwe finished his career with 1,109 points, 781 rebounds, and 230 blocked shots, becoming just the fourth Terps to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 blocked shots. Jones capped his career as one of the most prolific three-point shooters in school history. He finished with 203 career three-pointers, which ranked second all-time at Maryland. Jones attempted 495 career three pointers, which was the third-highest total in school history. He knocked down 81 three pointers this season, marking the third highest singleseason total for a senior at Maryland. But Strawberry scored eight of Maryland s next 15 points to regain control, For Clemson (19-7, 5-7), the loss continued a slide that began when these two teams met for the first time this season on Jan. 13. Then the Tigers came as the nation s last Division I unbeaten at 17-0 before Maryland ended that distinction with its victory. Clemson rallied from down with a 15-4 run.
