(Mackay Stadium) Nevada Wolf Pack (0-1,MW) The University of Nevada soccer team will host Eastern Washington (0-2, Big Sky) Friday night in the team s Mackay Stadium opener at 7 p.m. Nevada leads the overall series with Eastern Washington The last meeting occurred during the 2006 season at EWU, where the two teams finished the match tied at 1-1 after two overtime periods. The Redhawks are 0-2 on the year, after falling to Gonzaga and Seattle at home last weekend. Following the match with Eastern Washington, Nevada will face Wright State Sunday afternoon at Mackay Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. The match will mark the first meeting between the two programs. 2 Game-By-Game -Week One- Through One Match Team Leaders Sunday, August 25- San Francisco 2, Nevada 0 The University of Nevada soccer team opened up the 2013 regular season with a 2-0 loss to San Francisco Sunday at Negoesco Stadium. Junior Kellyn Morning and the Nevada defense came up with an early stop, as the San Francisco offense had a breakaway opportunity that was broken down by the Wolf Pack. San Francisco forward Mackenzie Krieser received a cross from Alex Alugas and headed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Dons a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Nevada was awarded with a set piece right outside of the box at the 67th minute. Wolf Pack mid-fielder Chrisalyn Fonte had a nice shot on goal that was saved by Dons goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel to keep the score 2-0. Nevada defender Chelsea Fricke placed a head on a corner kick cross from Katherine Davison that went over the crossbar with four minutes to go in regulation. The suggestion stems from the Mackay Mayhem promotion, a push to build excitement for home soccer matches. We think it is very important to get fans involved, head coach Dr. Melissa Price said. Our supporters make the environment at Mackay Stadium a special one, whether it is a Friday night or a Sunday afternoon. 2

3 Team Notes Sophomore Kelsey Quintos received her first collegiate start at goalkeeper in the team s season opener at San Francisco. Quintos recorded six saves in the loss. Three of Nevada s seven newcomers saw time on the pitch in the match at USF. Katherine Davison and Brianna Bosson each started in their Wolf Pack debut. Stephanie Martini and Kara Kopolow both played in the match as well. The 2013 team will have a good mix of veteran leadership and youth (Five seniors, seven juniors, six sophomores, and seven freshmen). The Wolf Pack will welcome seven newcomers (all freshmen) into the fold this season. Junior Chrisalyn Fonte returns as the team s leading goal scorer. Fonte scored five times during the 2012 season. Nevada will play three more conference matches in 2013 than it did last season. With the additions of San José State and Utah State to the Mountain West, and the addition of soccer at Colorado State, the Pack picks up three meetings with each. Utah State and Colorado State will visit Mackay Stadium, while Nevada will face San José State on the road. With the USF loss, Dr. Melissa Price is 1-3 in season openers at Nevada. Nevada welcomed seven newcomers to its 2013 roster. New additions this year included: Katherine Davison, D (Flagstaff, Ariz.), Mackenzie Henke, F (Ravensdale, Wash.), Kara Kopolow, MF/F (Henderson, Nev.), Brianna Bosson, D (Simi Valley, Calif.), Stephanie Martini, F (San Rafael, Calif.), Gaby Caporrici, D (Irvine, Calif.), and Amelia Jacobs, MF (San Mateo, Calif.). 3
