Sophomore Lauren LaPlant paced WCU with 14 points while fellow sophomores Nikki Johnson and Judith Martin Ruiz followed with 13 and 10 points respectively. Scoring droughts and foul trouble doomed Western Carolina in the loss to the Paladins. Julia Brown played just three minutes in the first half, due to two quick fouls, and Nikki Johnson also found herself with a pair of fouls in the first half. The foul trouble and almost seven minutes of combined scoring droughts in the first and second period by the Catamounts allowed Furman to build a lead at the half. It was a deficit Western Carolina could not recover from. Furman benefitted from 21 trips to the free throw line hitting 17. The Paladins also pounded the glass ripping down 42 rebounds, 26 on the defensive end, to Western Carolina s 27.
