The Red Foxes shot 31.9% from the fi eld in the game, and only 26.1% in the second half. Marist s 43 points are the lowest output for the team since scoring 48 in a win over the Bonnies last season, and the lowest on the road since scoring 45 points at UConn in the season opener. With her 13 points Friday night, Fitz now has 1,996 points and is only four points away from becoming the fi rst women s basketball player at Marist to score 2,000 career points. She will also become only the second Marist basketball player, male or female, to reach that mark. Steve Smith scored 2,077 points for the men s team from Fitz also is now third all-time in rebounds with 845, 43 behind Marist s all-time leader Stacey Dengler. WELCOME HOME: Marist has been strong at the McCann Center since 2003, recording a 67-9 record. Over the last fi ve seasons, the Red Foxes are 42-4 at home. Marist has won 13 of its last 14 home games against non-conference opponents. HIGH-PERCENTAGE LOOKS: The Red Foxes are averaging 22.9 points per game in the paint so far this season. Yarde scored in double-fi gures four times last season as a freshman. After averaging 4.3 points per game last season, Yarde is now scoring 10.9 points per game and pulling down 5.1 rebounds per game. TRYING TO FIND SOME RESERVES: In the last two games, Marist has gotten only 11 points from its bench. Elise Caron scored the only bench points for the Red Foxes against St. Bonaventure, making a layup in the second half. Prior to last weekend, Marist s bench was averaging 16.6 points per game. LONG-DISTANCE TROUBLES: Marist has struggled shooting the three-pointer this season, making only 29.4% of its attempts this season. Last season, the Red Foxes shot 34% from beyond the arc. The Red Foxes are now second in the country in free throw percentage, making 81.3% of its free shots at the line. Only Drexel (82.5%) is shooting better at the line than Marist. Corielle Yarde is the Red Foxes top foul-shooter so far this season, connecting on 91.7% of her attempts, putting her 14th in the nation in that statistical category.

BACK ON TRACK: After a slow start to the season, senior Lynzee Johnson has averaged 8.7 points and eight rebounds per game in the last three contests. Johnson had back-to-back games in double fi gures against George Washington and Tulsa, recording her fi rst career doubledouble against the Golden Hurricane with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson was the Red Foxes leading rebounder against St. Bonaventure, pulling down six boards. 5 TAKING ON ALL COMERS: Marist has one of its toughest schedules in recent memory for #3/3 Ohio State is on the Red Foxes side of the WNIT bracket, as well as Bowling Green which has won the last fi ve Mid-American Conference regular-season titles. The Red Foxes will take on Oklahoma State at the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas. Marist could take on Michigan State there as well. The Spartans are ranked 10th in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls. The Red Foxes will host #13/8 Oklahoma at the McCann Center on Dec. 9. The Sooners could be the highest-raked team to play Marist at the McCann Center since #15 Georgia took on the Red Foxes on Dec. 21, GIORGIS AMONG NATION S LEADERS IN WINNING PERCENTAGE: Marist head coach Brian Giorgis enters his eighth season as the program s all-time leader in wins, compiling a career-record of His.757 winning percentage is the ninth-best among active Division I coaches. Marist has won at least 20 games in each of the last six seasons. OWNED THE ENTIRE EMPIRE STATE: Marist has won 73 of its last 77 games played in the state of New York. The Red Foxes had, at one time, won 50 consecutive games against other Division I opponents from the Empire State, but had it snapped by Canisius at the McCann Center on Feb. 6, The streak dated back to the season. SCOUTING OKLAHOMA: The Sooners enter Wednesday s game with a 6-2 record after winning an overtime game against Arkansas at the Lloyd Noble Center on Saturday. Amanda Thompson made the gamewinning layup with nine seconds left in overtime as the Razorbacks could not score on their last possession. Thompson fi nished the game with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and fi ve assists. Danielle Robinson led the Sooners with 31 points. Robinson leads Oklahoma in points and assists, averaging 17.1 points and six assists per game. Abi Olajuwon has stepped into the center position, vacated by graduated senior Courtney Paris, and is averaging 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game and is shooting 58.1% from the fi eld. Thompson is averaging 12 points and a team-high 10 rebounds per game. The Sooners are averaging 81.6 points per game and allowing 68.4 points per game. 6 HEAD COACH BRIAN GIORGIS EIGHTH SEASON CAREER RECORD: (.753) FOUR-TIME MAAC COACH OF THE YEAR Brian Giorgis enters his eighth season as head coach of the Marist women s basketball team as the program s all-time leader in wins. His career record stands at and his.757 winning percentage is ninth best among active Division I coaches. Giorgis had led the program to national prominence in his first seven seasons. Last season, the Red Foxes reached their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament and their fifth in six years. Marist also won its sixth consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season title. The Red Foxes went 29-4 last season with a 16-2 mark in conference. Marist was ranked as high as 20th in the Associated Press Top 25 that season as well, and was ranked for three weeks. For his efforts, Giorgis was named the Maggie Dixon Coach of the Year by the Met Basketball Writers Association. In , the Red Foxes set a new program-record with 32 wins. Marist became the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team to finish the regular season undefeated, going 18-0 to win its fifth consecutive regular season title. The Red Foxes also earned their first in-season ranking in when the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll ranked them 25th on Feb. 12. Marist was ranked as high as 20th in the poll by the end of the regular season. A new record 21-game winning streak propelled Marist to its fourth MAAC Tournament title and a seventh-seed in the New Orleans Region of the NCAA Tournament. Marist won its first round NCAA Tournament game for the second straight season, using a 39-7 run over the last 14:13 of the game to defeat tenth-seeded De- Paul The Red Foxes took a 22-game winning streak, the nation s longest at the time, into their second round game against LSU. While Marist did fall to the Tigers, the Red Foxes showed they can hang with the nation s elite teams for a second straight season. Giorgis earned two accolades for his work during the season. He was named MAAC Coach of the Year, marking the fourth time in six seasons that he earned at least a share of the award. The Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association also honored Giorgis by naming him and C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers the Maggie Dixon Co-Coaches of the Year. Giorgis led Marist to a program-best 29 triumphs and its third trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last four seasons in He led the Red Foxes to their first ever win in the NCAA Tournament, a upset of fourth-seeded Ohio State. Marist followed it up with a win over Middle Tennessee State to advance to the regional semifinals. The Red Foxes embarked on winning streaks of seven and 13 games as they claimed at least a share of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season crown for the fourth straight season. In his first four seasons, Marist s win total improved each season. The Red Foxes won 13 games in his first season in , then 20 games in , Marist s first MAAC Championship year. After winning 22 games in the season, the Red Foxes went 23-7 in the season and reached their second NCAA Tournament.
