Tip-off is set for 7 P.M. in Loudonville, N.Y. The Red Foxes are all-time vs the Saints including three wins last year and a 22 game winning streak against Siena dating back to the season. LAST TIME OUT A balanced offensive effort from the Marist women s basketball team would push the Red Foxes past the South Dakota State Jackrabbits (8-5), Sunday afternoon at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes outscored the Jackrabbits in the second half including a 15-4 run in the first four minutes of the half that would propel the team from down six to up five. ON THE AIR Friday s game will be broadcast live on ROCK 93-3 FM in Poughkeepsie, with Geoff Brault providing play-by-play and Steve Eggink on color. The broadcast will also be available online at the Red Fox Network and iheart Radio. Pregame show at 6:45 p.m. Marist vs Siena will also be televised live throughout New York state on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel. 3 LAST YEAR VS SIENA First Meeting: Marist defeated Siena in Poughkeepsie. Emma O Connor led Marist with 16 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Three other Red Foxes recorded double-digits; Madeline Blais (13), Leanne Ockenden (12), and Tori Jarosz (12). Ockenden had an additional five steals. Tehresa Coles led the Saints with 13 points and eight rebounds. Megan Donohue (13) and Kanika Cummings (10) were also in double-figures for Siena. Marist shot 57.4 percent from the field while Siena shot 32.3 percent. Second Meeting: Marist defeated Siena in Loudonville. Sydney Coffey led the Red Foxes with a game-high 17 points. Emma O Connor had 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Madeline Blais (13) and Leanne Ockenden (10) were in double-figures for Marist. Tehresa Coles was the only Saint above single-digits with 12 points and seven rebounds. Marist shot 56.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range while Siena shot 22.6 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from beyond the arc. Third Meeting: #2 Marist downed #10 Siena in its quarterfinal game of the 2014 MAAC Championships, This was Marist s 24th consecutive tournament win and fifth straight by 20+ points. Winning behind their defense, the Red Foxes have held nine of their 11 opponents this year to 30 percent shooting or less. Locking down on the defensive side of the court has been the Red Foxes MO thus far. ROUNDING INTO FORM In the Red Foxes last game against South Dakota State, the team had four players in double figures for the first time this year. Blais, Jarosz, Coffey, and Clement all scored 10+ points. 4 GET FRESH Freshman forward Payton Birchmeier was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career for the week of December 15. For the week Birchmeier would average nine points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists while adding a block and a steal in two games. BLAIS ING Madeline Blais led the team in both points and rebounds in the seasons first game versus Delaware. Blais led the team in either points or rebounds a total of 13 times last season. Blais also currently sits at second all-time in the Marist record books for free throw percentage. R-E-S-P-E-C-T After not receiving a vote in the college insiders women s mid-major top 25 poll the Red Foxes defeated then #9 Albany and then #10 South Dakota State. LOCK IT DOWN The Red Foxes offense has been finding a rhythm but the defense has been a lynchpin seemingly all season long thus far, Marist has held 6 of its 11 opponents to 60-or-fewer points and 4 of its 10 opponents to 50 or less. CAPTAINS Tori Jarosz, Sydney Coffey, Madeline Blais, and Maggie Gallagher will lead the team this season on and off the court. Jarosz and Coffey enter their senior season with the Red Foxes while Blais and Coffey fill in as junior captains after the loss of Casey Dulin, Leanne Ockenden and Emma O Connor. MAAC HONORS With the selection of Madeline Blais and Sydney Coffey to the All-MAAC first team and Tori Jarosz selected for the All-MAAC second team this marks the eighth consecutive year the Red Foxes have had three or more players selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Teams. CALL IT A COMEBACK Senior center Tori Jarosz was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference player of the Week for the first time in her career for the week of December 8. Jarosz averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2 steals in two games and her first game action of the year for the Red Foxes. CONTINUED TRADITION was a record breaking season for the Red Foxes under the leadership of head coach Brian Giorgis. Obviously a strong finisher in the MAAC the Red Foxes start off on the right foot as well. The Red Foxes only two losses in conference openers in the Giorgis era took place in his first three years as head coach. HOME COURT ADVANTAGE The Marist women s basketball team has been dominant at McCann Arena (formerly the McCann Center) since the season. The Red Foxes are at home during the last 11 seasons. Marist won 26 consecutive home games from Nov. 18, 2005 to Dec. 12, That streak was the second-longest home court winning streak in the nation at the time. Marist has been exceptional at home in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play over the last 11 seasons. The Red Foxes are 93-7 against MAAC teams at McCann Arena during this stretch. Seven of the past nine seasons have seen Marist go perfect at McCann Arena in conference action. From Feb Jan. 2014, Marist won 42 consecutive home games against MAAC opponents. SELL OUTS The season was a historic one for the RedFoxes at McCann Arena. For the first time, Marist had two home sellouts in a season - against Kentucky in the season opener, and against Fairfield on Feb. 8. This gave Marist six sellouts in program history, all of which have occurred in the last seven seasons. GOOD O, STINGY D The Red Foxes finished the season 27-7 overall and 18-2 in the MAAC. The team posted their 11th consecutive 20+ win season and eighth straight 25+ win season. The Red Foxes also ranked third in scoring in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in and ranked first in defense, giving up just over 60 points per game. MIX AND MATCH The Red Foxes have used five different starting lineups in ten games so far this season. Coach Giorgis has been trying to find a balance between his guards while also trying to add size at the same time. As the Red Foxes move into MAAC s the return of Tori Jarosz has paid huge dividends in their continuity. WIN IN-SEASON The Red Foxes hold a all-time record in in-season tournaments. The team was 3-4 in their first five years under Giorgis and 19-7 in the seven years since. The Red Foxes have either won or went undefeated in the following tournaments, the 2007 Oahu Classic, the 2008 FIU Fun and Sun Classic, the 2010 TD Bank Classic, the 2010 Duel in the Desert, and 2011 Cancun Challenge. FRESHMAN PRODUCTION Freshman normally don t play such a huge role early for the Red Foxes, but in non-conference the team has relied on three in different spots. Allie Clement, Payton Birchmeier, and Kendall Baab have all found themselves playing decent minutes in the first six games and contributing in their own ways.

6 STEADY AT THE WHEEL The Red Foxes own the top three assists/turnover ratios of all time in the MAAC and six out of the top ten all-time. Leading the way at the point guard position is Senior Natalie Gomez-Martinez, ranked in the top 50 for assists/turnover ratios in the MAAC all-time. PRODUCTION REPLACEMENT A key theme for the Red Foxes this season will be finding out who will step up and score. The Red Foxes exited last season putting up an all-time number in team points in a season. The Red Foxes ranked fourth all time with 2460 points scored and averaged 72.4 points per game at close to a.500 clip. I M COMING HOME The Red Foxes are 2-3 in their last five home openers with wins against Vermont in and North Carolina A&T in the season. Last year the Marist women s basketball team played No. 7 Kentucky.The Wildcats defeated the Red Foxes Senior guard Leanne Ockenden (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the team with 16 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Senior Emma O Connor (Lynbrook, N.Y.) posted 10 points and the team high 11 rebounds. The Red Foxes won t return home until December but won t leave until January. All five of the Red Foxes December games will be held at McCann Arena, taking on Monmouth, Rider, Albany, Boston University, and mid major powerhouse South Dakota St. RECORD VS RANKED OPPONENTS The Marist women s basketball team under Brian Giorgis hold a 2-13 record. The Red Foxes two wins include a win 12/19/10 over #21 Nebraska in 2010 at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas and last years win over #20 Oklahoma at McCann Arena. The first ever win over a ranked opponent at home. Baylor is ranked 13th in the country which makes them the seventh highest ranked opponent the team has faced in the Brian Giorgis era. SLOW START-FAST FINISH The Marist women s basketball team under Brian Giorgis opened the season 0-4, the worst start under the 13 year head coach and the only four game losing streak ever for Giorgis. At #9 UConn, Villanova, at New Hampshire, at #25 New Mexico. After the 0-4 start the Red Foxes went on a 12 game winning streak and finished the season 23-7 winning the MAAC Championship. This Year the Red Foxes are 0-3 for the second straight year, only five times in 294 career games under Brian Giorgis have they lost three in a row or more. Losing three in a row or more took place twice in Giorgis first year, which was the last time and only time the Red Foxes did not have a winning record. WHAT IF S? If Marist wins the MAAC Championship title this season, it will be its eleventh overall and tenth consecutive championship title, winning in 2004 and HUNTER OR HUNTED? In the 2014 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll, Marist was chosen to take first place along with Quinnipiac, with both teams earning 112 points. Iona was third, receiving 106 points, followed by Fairfield with 81 points. The Red Foxes defeated Quinnipiac in last seasons MAAC Championship title game after trailing by as much as 17 points in the first half. She shot.814 on her free throws, good for sixth in the league, and her assist total ranked 11th in the conference. Coffey was selected to the All-MAAC Rookie team as a freshman.
