3 SIENA HISTORY The Red Foxes hold a advantage in the all-time series against Siena and split last season s series losing the first but winning the second against the Saints, Rebekah Hand led the Red Foxes with a game-high 20 points and added 7 rebounds. Lovisa Henningsdottir had a big game for Marist scoring 17 points on 5-for-6 shooting from three. Maura Fitzpatrick added 14 points and Hannah Hand was the fourth Red Fox in double-digits, finishing the game with 10 points. Before last season s second meeting, the Red Foxes had dropped two in a row to Siena after winning the previous 25 games in the series before that. SCOUTING THE SAINTS Siena enters Thursday s game with a 7-10 overall record and a 2-4 MAAC mark with conference wins over Rider and Iona. The Saints are losers of their last three after coming up short against Canisius and Niagara during their Buffalo trip. Kollyns Scarbrough has led the Saints in scoring in the last seven contests and leads the team in overall scoring (16.4 PPG) and rebounding (7.6 RPG). The Saints have no other players averaging double-digits, Maddie Sims is the team s second leading scorer, averaging nine points per game. SISTER, SISTER Twins Rebekah and Hannah Hand both look to build upon impressive freshman seasons. Both were named to the MAAC s All-Rookie Team. Rebekah was also named MAAC Rookie of the Year last season. The Hand s are one of 18 sets of sisters currently competing in division one. NEWBIES Three freshmen enter the fray for the Red Foxes, all of whom are expected to make an instant impact. Willow Duffell is an extremely athletic 6-2 forward who averaged 15 points and 15 rebounds for her club team over the summer. Guard Allie Best averaged nearly 18 points per game her senior year of high school, and shot over 50% from beyond the arc. Forward Gabi Redden brings a low post presence and bags of potential to this Marist team. REDSHIRTS The Red Foxes will have four players coming off redshirt seasons. Grace Vander Weide transferred to Marist from Missouri State in the winter of Per NCAA regulations, she must sit out until she completes her year of residency at Marist, which will be over following the end of the Fall 2017 semester. Forward Alana Gilmer transferred from Virginia Tech last fall, and is available to play to start the season. Both guard Allie Clement and forward Molly Smith were sidelined with injuries last season, but they will be both be ready for the start of the season. SENIOR YEAR Forward Kendall Baab is the only senior on the Red Foxes this year. Baab has averaged just under 12 points per game throughout her career and is coming off a career high 16.6 minutes per game in her junior season. Baab averaged four points and just under two rebounds per game last season, and averaged 52% from beyond the arc, all career highs. JUNIOR CLASS The Red Foxes will be relying heavily on their junior class this season. In particular, guard/forward Maura Fitzpatrick will be a key starter for coach Brian Giorgis at the start of the season. Fitzpatrick was named to the preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Third Team, meaning there will be lofty expectations on her to start the season. She will look to improve on last season, when she averaged 12.3 points per game. Forward Lovisa Bjort Henningsdottir will be a key player off the bench for the Red Foxes. Henningsdottir averaged just under nine points and five rebounds per game last season. STAT MATCHUP Points Opp. Points Scoring Margin Field Goal % Opp. FG % Pt. Sophomore Rebekah Hand has been named to the All-MAAC second team after receiving MAAC Rookie of the Year honors last season. She averaged 13.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Junior Maura Fitzpatrick was named to the All-MAAC third team after averaging 12.3 points and five rebounds per game. FILL IN THE GAPS In total, the Red Foxes lost five players due to graduation and transfers. Coach Brian Giorgis has opted to keep his team small for the start of the season, with only 13 of his 15 player slots actually filled. PRESEASON PICK After finishing in fifth in last season s coaches poll, the Red Foxes are back in the top three spots this year, earing themselves the number two ranking in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coaches Poll. The Red Foxes earned this ranking mainly due to their cast of returning players, while other teams around the conference took heavy losses due to graduating seniors. The Red Foxes finished last season with a overall record, but went 11-9 in the MAAC. At the top of the poll, Quinnipiac University has been selected as the Preseason favorite to repeat as MAAC women s basketball champions. The Bocats received all 11 of the first-place votes for a total of 121 points. This unanimous vote comes after an impressive NCAA Tournament run by the Bobcats, making it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen last season. Rounding out the top-five are Iona, who received 81 points, Fairfield (77) points, and Monmouth (71 points) MIX IT UP One of the Red Foxes biggest strengths comes at the combo guard position. Of their seven guards on the roster, all of them can handle the ball. Allie Clement is expected to run the point for the start of the season, but freshman Allie Best is waiting for her chance at the starting point guard role. Both Hand twins have shown elite scoring ability, while Fitzpatrick remains a threat on the wing. Vander Weide is a classic slasher with good vision and great defensive ability, and will be in the mix for the starting point guard role once she becomes eligible in December. SCHEDULE BREAKDOWN The Red Foxes start their season with two home games in the Patriot League, against Navy (Nov. 10) and Holy Cross (Nov. 14). They then travel to Boston to take on Northeastern (Nov. 19). The Red Foxes are heading to Hawaii to participate in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. There, the Red Foxes will face off against hosts Hawaii (Nov. 24), University of Southern California (Nov. 25), and Purdue (Nov. 26). When the Red Foxes return from Hawaii, they will be met with a tough stretch of non-conference games, starting with a visit to Seton Hall (Nov. 30). Following that, the Red Foxes will play host to Dartmouth (Dec. 2) and Rhode Island (Dec. 6), before heading on the road again to face Boston University (Dec. 9), Temple (Dec. 16), and UMass (Dec 21). The MAAC schedule for the Red Foxes is a balanced one in terms of home vs road games. Bar two instances, every home game is followed by a road game, and vice versa. The only two back-to-back MAAC road games come January 26th and 28th, when the Red Foxes head up to Buffalo to face off with Niagara and Canisius respectively. After that road trip, the Red Foxes will come back with two consecutive home games, February 1st against Iona and February 3rd against Siena.

7 HOME COURT ADVANTAGE The Marist women s basketball team has been dominant at McCann Arena (formerly the McCann Center) since the season. The Red Foxes are at home during the last 14 seasons. Marist won 26 consecutive home games from Nov. 18, 2005 to Dec. 12, That streak was the second-longest home court winning streak in the nation at the time. Marist has been exceptional at home in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play over the last 12 seasons. The Red Foxes are against MAAC teams at McCann Arena during this stretch. From Feb Jan. 2014, Marist won 42 consecutive home games against MAAC opponents. OPEN SEASON Perennially one of if not the favorites in the MAAC, The Red Foxes have opened the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate of games with a win for 13 consecutive seasons and 14 of the last 15. The Red Foxes picked up a win over Rider to start their MAAC campaign. RECORD VS RANKED OPPONENTS The Marist women s basketball team under Brian Giorgis hold a 2-14 record against ranked opposition. The Red Foxes two wins include a win 12/19/10 over #21 Nebraska in 2010 at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas and a 2014 win over #20 Oklahoma at McCann Arena. The first ever win over a ranked opponent at home. MAAC HONOR ROLL The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference held its annual MAAC Honor Roll dinner at the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Court of Dreams. Marist s honorees were Ron Petro and Erica (Allenspach) Woytek. Ron Petro s extensive contributions as athletic director and head men s basketball coach were instrumental to the growth of the Marist College Athletics Department. He was the Red Foxes head coach from , and his 18-year tenure is tied for the longest in program history. Erica Woytek, known as Erica Allenspach in her playing career, is one of the top all-around players in the history of the Marist women s basketball program, and one of the most synonymous with winning. A hard-nosed player with a diverse skill set, Allenspach was a key component of MAAC championship teams in all four of her seasons with the Red Foxes. WIN IN-SEASON The Red Foxes have either won or went undefeated in the following tournaments, the 2007 Oahu Classic, the 2008 FIU Fun and Sun Classic, the 2010 TD Bank Classic, the 2010 Duel in the Desert, and 2011 Cancun Challenge. The Red Foxes will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii during Thanksgiving week to take part in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown. MADE FOR TV The Marist women s basketball teams will appear on ESPN3 throughout the home regular season.
