Utah State is one of eight teams in the nation to win 20-plus games in each of the last eight years joining Duke, Florida, Gonzaga, Illinois, Kansas, Syracuse, and Texas. Entering the year, 14 teams had seven straight 20-win season. Utah State has a 14-game home winning streak and a (.919) overall record at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum under head coach Stew Morrill, which includes a 67-7 (.905) conference record. Overall, USU has won eight straight conference games at home and is 12-2 (.857) at home in WAC games. Utah State s current 14-game home winning streak is the longest in the Western Athletic Conference and tied with Southern Illinois for the 13th longest in the nation. Air Force and BYU have the nation s longest home winning streak at 30 games. The last team to defeat USU at home was Nevada (75-57) on Feb. 25, Utah State has now lost back-to-back games for the third time this year and for the 11th time in the last eight years. The previous two times USU lost consectuive games this year it responded with a five-game winning streak. Over the last eight years USU is (.784) following a loss, and 7-0 following consecutive losses. The last time USU lost three straight games was at the end of the season, a span of 253 games. Nevada is the highest ranked team to play in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum since Nov. 18, 1998 when Utah State defeated then ninth-ranked Utah All-time, USU is 9-54 against ranked opponents, which includes a 3-11 record under Morrill. Junior guard Jaycee Carroll ranks first in the WAC and 10th in the nation in scoring (21.6), and first in the WAC and 16th in the nation in free throw shooting (88.7). Carroll also leads the WAC in three-point shooting (44.9), is third in overall shooting (54.4), and is 11th in rebounding (6.1). Utah State is (.667) in the month of March under Morrill, which includes a 9-3 (.750) record at home.

The Aggies, who are 12-0 at home and 5-9 on the road this year, are led by junior guard Jaycee Carroll who is averaging 21.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 54.4 percent from the field, 44.9 percent from three-point range, and 88.7 percent from the free throw line, while senior forward Chaz Spicer is averaging 10.3 points and 3.7 rebounds, and is shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 44.0 percent from three-point range, and 80.9 percent from the free throw line. Junior forward Stephen DuCharme is third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding as he is averaging 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. As a team, USU is averaging 70.4 points and shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 37.6 percent from three-point range, and 77.2 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are averaging 66.0 points and shooting 45.8 percent from the field, 33.9 percent from three-point range, and 63.8 percent from the free throw line. UTAH STATE DURING ITS CURRENT TWO-GAME LOSING STREAK During its current two-game losing streak, Utah State is averaging 72.0 points and shooting 43.1 percent from the field, 45.5 percent from three-point range, and 78.4 percent from the free throw line, while its opponents are averaging 80.0 points and shooting 61.3 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from behind the arc. VERSUS THE WAC Utah State is (.637) all-time against current members of the Western Athletic Conference and the Aggies have a winning record against every team in the league. Morrill is (.574) all-time against current members of the WAC, which includes a (.710) record as the head coach at Utah State. COMPUTER RANKINGS As of Mon., Feb. 26, Utah State has an RPI of 65 and a strength of schedule of 129 according to the Pomeroy Ratings by Ken Pomeroy, while the WAC is currently ranked ninth out of 32 conferences. USU also has a sagarin rating of 93. DID YOU KNOW? Utah State is one of just five teams in the country to win at least 23 games in each of the last seven seasons joining Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas and Syracuse. Overall, Utah State teams have won 20-plus games in a season 22 times. NEXT WEEK Utah State will travel to Las Cruces, N.M., to participate in the 2007 Western Athletic Conference tournament from Mar at the Pan American Center. USU s first game will be on Thur., Mar. 8 with the time and opponent to be determined.

3 RECAPPING THE LOUISIANA TECH GAME Louisiana Tech had five players score in double-figures and shot 66.7 percent from the field to notch a win against Utah State at the Thomas Assembly Center Saturday night. Jaycee Carroll scored a game-high 27 points for Utah State, while Chris Session added 10 points and six rebounds for the visitors. Louisiana Tech was led by Drew Washington and Jerome Richardson who each had 14 points, while Chad McKenzie and Trey McDowell each had 13 points to go along with Terry Parker s 10 points. Louisiana Tech turned a 13-point halftime lead into a 27-point advantage by starting the second-half on a 16-2 run. USU responded with an 18-5 run over the next five minutes to get with 14, but the Bulldogs answered with four straight points to regain control. USU could never get closer than 11 points the remainder of the game en route to the 13-point loss. Utah State held an early six-point lead in the game and led by five at midway through the first-half before Louisiana Tech went on a 22-2 run over the next six-plus minutes to lead by 15 before going into the locker room with a advantage. In the first-half, Louisiana Tech shot a blistering 70.4 percent from the field (19-27) and 60.0 percent from three-point range, while Utah State shot just 40.0 percent from the field (10-25). Overall, Utah State shot 47.1 percent from three-point range (8-17), but made just 40.0 percent of its field goals. Along with making 66.7 percent of its shots from the field, which is a season-high for a USU opponent, Louisiana Tech also converted nine-of-16 three-pointers (.563). The Bulldogs could have kept the game much further out of reach but converted just 15-of-32 free throws. RECAPPING THE NEW MEXICO STATE GAME Despite 30 points from Jaycee Carroll, Utah State was unable to rally from a doubledigit deficit and lost at New Mexico State Thursday night. Stephen DuCharme added 18 points for USU, while Chaz Spicer scored 13. Justin Hawkins led New Mexico State with 23 points, while Elijah Ingram had 15 points, and Tyrone Nelson had 13 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds. New Mexico State scored the first three points of the second half to record its biggest lead of the game at before Utah State scored the next nine points to get back within 11. USU continued its charge and closed to within six points at on a jumper by Spicer with 14:29 remaining only to see NMSU respond with an 8-0 run to increase its lead back to 14. Utah State then went on a 7-0 run midway through the second-half to get within four at 64-60, only to see the New Mags slowly increased its lead back to nine at before USU scored eight straight points to get within one at USU actually had a chance to tie the game with :47 seconds remaining but DuCharme missed the second of two free throws. After Hawkins made two free throws for NMSU with :05 seconds remaining to give the hosts a three-point lead, Durrall Peterson missed a desperation shot from 30-feet at the buzzer for Utah State that would have tied the game. Utah State scored the first four points of the game on lay-ups by Spicer and DuCharme before New Mexico State scored six straight points. NMSU then used a 10-2 run to increase its lead to 12 and led before Carroll scored 11 straight points followed by a pair of free throws from DuCharme to get USU within five at with 6:42 remaining. New Mexico State then finished the half on a 14-2 run to take a 17-point lead at into the break. In the first-half, New Mexico State shot 66.7 percent from the field and was nine-of-16 from the free throw line (.563), while Utah State shot just 30.8 percent from the field and was seven-of-nine from the free throw line (.778). Ingram led NMSU with 11 first-half points, while Hawkins and Martin Iti each had 10. Carroll led USU with 14 first-half points. Overall, Utah State shot 46.4 percent from the field as compared to 56.3 percent shooting for New Mexico State. USU did make seven-of-16 three-pointers (.438) and was 14-of-17 from the free throw line (.824), while NMSU was just two-of-nine from behind the arc (.222) and 20-of-33 from the charity stripe (.606). New Mexico State also out-rebounded USU NOTE-ABLES FROM LAST WEEKEND USU is now 0-6 on the season when it trails by double-digits at the break. USU has now been out-rebounded seven times this year, including in each of its last three games. USU had won 15 straight games this year when Jaycee Carroll scored 20-plus points in a game, before losing both games last weekend. The Wolf Pack, who are 10-1 on the road this year, are led by senior forward Nick Fazekas who is averaging 20.9 points and 11.4 rebounds, while junior guard Marcelus Kemp is averaging 17.5 points, and junior guard Ramon Sessions is averaging 13.4 points per game. As a team, the Wolf Pack are averaging 77.9 points and shooting 49.4 percent from the field, 41.8 percent from three-point range, and 74.8 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, Nevada is allowing 66.7 points per game, while its opponents are shooting 40.7 percent from the field and 31.9 percent from three-point range. The Wolf Pack return four starters and eight lettermen from last year s team that went 27-6 overall and finished in first-place in the WAC with a 13-3 league record. Mark Fox is in his third year as a head coach. Nevada is currently ranked ninth in the country in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, and 10th in the AP Poll. UTAH STATE-NEVADA SERIES Utah State and Nevada will be meeting for the 34th time this Thursday with the Aggies owning a all-time advantage, which includes an 11-2 record at home. Nevada has won each of the last three games played in the series, including a win in Reno on Jan. 27. The last time the two teams played in Logan was on Feb. 25, 2006 with the Wolf Pack recording a win. The three-game winning streak by Nevada against Utah State is the longest-ever for the Wolf Pack in the history of the series. Utah State head coach Stew Morrill is all-time against Nevada, which includes a 5-5 record while at Montana, a 2-1 record while at Colorado State, and a 5-4 record at Utah State. LAST MEETING AGAINST THE WOLF PACK Nick Fazekas scored 24 points and added 18 rebounds to lead 18th-ranked Nevada to a home win against Utah State at Lawlor Events Center on Jan. 27. Jaycee Carroll led Utah State with 15 points, while Chaz Spicer added 12. Utah State scored the first four points of the game on a free throw by Durrall Peterson and a three-pointer by Carroll before Nevada scored eight straight points. The Wolf Pack never trailed again as it broke open a close game with a 7-0 run midway through the first-half and led by as many as 15 before going into the locker room with a advantage. In the first half Nevada shot 59.3 percent from the field as compared to just 39.4 percent shooting by Utah State. Fazekas led the Wolf Pack with 14 points at the break, while Chaz Spicer had 10 points for the Aggies. Utah State fought back in the second-half with an early 7-0 run to cut Nevada s lead in half and trailed with 14:48 remaining. During the next seven-plus minutes, USU played toe-to-toe with UNR as Carroll scored 11 straight points to keep the Aggies in the game. Following a Nick Hammer three-pointer to cut the lead to eight at 64-56, UNR scored 10 straight points to put the game away. Nevada finished the game by shooting 50.0 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from three-point range as it made nine-of-23 attempts from behind the arc. Utah State shot just 41.0 percent overall, including 33.3 percent from three. The Wolf Pack also out-rebounded the Aggies Utah State did commit a seasonlow six turnovers in the game, as compared to 10 for Nevada, but the Wolf Pack had eight more assists (23-15) and five more blocks (7-2) in the game. 5 SCOUTING FRESNO STATE Fresno State is 20-8 on the season and tied with Utah State and Boise State for third-place in the WAC with an 8-6 league record following a pair of road wins at Louisiana Tech (64-63) and New Mexico State (60-58) last weekend. The Bulldogs, who are 6-5 on the road this year, are led by senior forward Quinton Hosley who is averaging 14.3 points and 8.9 rebounds, while junior forward Dominic McGuire is averaging 13.0 points and 9.6 rebounds. Junior forward Hector Hernandez is averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Bulldogs, while junior guard Eddie Miller is averaging 10.0 points. As a team, Fresno State is averaging 70.8 points and shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 34.1 percent from three-point range, and 66.1 percent from the free throw line. Defensively, the Bulldogs are allowing 64.6 points per game, while its opponents are shooting 38.2 percent from the field and 30.5 percent from three-point range. The Bulldogs return five starters and eight lettermen from last year s team that went and finished in sixth-place in the WAC with an 8-8 league record. Steve Cleveland is in his second year at FSU and in 10 years as a collegiate head coach. Overall, Cleveland is 6-6 versus Utah State which includes a 2-1 record at Fresno State and a 4-5 record while at BYU. UTAH STATE-FRESNO STATE SERIES Utah State and Fresno State will meet for the 40th time this weekend with the Aggies owning a all-time advantage, which includes a 16-4 record at home. Fresno State won the last meeting between the two teams in Fresno on Jan. 6, while Utah State won the last meeting between the two teams in Logan on Mar. 2, 2006 by a final score of Overall, Utah State has won each of the last five games played against the Bulldogs in Logan. Utah State head coach Stew Morrill is 6-10 all-time against Fresno State, which includes a 2-3 record while at USU. LAST MEETING AGAINST THE BULLDOGS Despite a career-high 20 points from Chaz Spicer, including 15 in the second-half, Utah State lost at Fresno State on Jan. 6, Jaycee Carroll added 16 points for the visitors, while Chris Session recorded a career-high 10 rebounds. After leading by 17 at the break, Fresno State extended the margin to 20 early in the second half on a three-pointer by Kevin Bell, before USU went on a 21-8 run to cut the lead to seven at Fresno State then scored seven straight points to increase its margin to 14, only to see Utah State respond with a 13-4 run over the next three minutes to cut the lead to five at with 1:23 remaining, before the Bulldogs scored six of the final eight points to notch the nine-point win. Utah State led 7-5 early in the game before Fresno State went on a 11-3 run to take a advantage. Following its road win at Oral Roberts on Feb. 17, Utah State has now recorded eight straight 20-win seasons under Morrill. Overall, it is the 22nd time in school history that Utah State has recorded 20 wins in a season. Prior to its current run, the previous school record for consecutive 20-win seasons was three from With its 20 wins this season, Utah State is now just one of eight teams in the nation to win 20 or more games in each of the last eight years along with Duke, Gonzaga, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Syracuse, and Texas. Entering the season Utah State was one of just 14 teams across the nation to win 20 or more games in each of the last seven years, and one of just five schools to win at least 23 games during that time period joining Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, and Syracuse. Furthermore, Utah State's 76.8 percent winning percentage during the last eight years ranks fifth in the nation behind Duke (.844), Gonzaga (.802), Kansas (.787), and Illinois (.781). As for teams from the state of Utah, the Aggies current run of eight straight 20-win seasons is the most ever by any school from the Beehive State. The University of Utah's longest streak of consecutive 20-win seasons is six from , while BYU's longest streak is also six from MORRILL RECORDS 20TH WIN OF THE SEASON With its win at Oral Roberts, Utah State head coach Stew Morrill has now won 20 games 12 times during his career, including each of the last eight seasons at Utah State and in 10 of his last 12 seasons overall. Morrill s teams have also won at least 17 games 18 times in his 21 years as a collegiate head coach. Last year, Carroll scored 521 points, which is tied for the 37th most points scored in a single-season in school history. VAITIEKUS FIELD GOAL STREAK CONTINUES After recording one made basket at New Mexico State, junior center Arvydas Vaitiekus has now made 12 straight field goals during his last five games. Against New Mexico State, Carroll recorded the seventh-best single-game scoring performance in school history as he had a career-high 44 points to go along with 10 rebounds to notch his third double-double of the season and fourth of his career. Against NMSU, Carroll was 12-of-16 from the field, five-of-seven from three-point range, and 15-of-15 from the free throw line, which is a school record. The 44 points are tied for the fourth-most by any player in the nation this year, and the most by a WAC player in eight years. Carroll then added 28 points and eight rebounds against the Vandals, as he was 11-of-19 from the field. For the week, Carroll averaged 36.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while shooting 65.7 percent from the field (23-35), 46.7 percent from three-point range (7-15), and 95.0 percent from the free throw line (19-20). The award is the third WAC Player of the Week honor for Carroll, who won the award earlier this year after being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2006 Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska. Carroll's first career Player of the Week honor came during his sophomore season after leading the Aggies to a pair of wins against Middle Tennessee and Weber State. His 44 points are the most ever scored by an Aggie in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, and the third-most overall in the building. John Caughran (California) scored a Spectrum record 47 points against USU on Jan. 31, 1972, while Freeman Williams (Portland State) had 46 points against the Aggies on Feb. 15, His 44 points are the most scored by a WAC player since Lee Nailon (TCU) had 44 points against Gonzaga on Dec. 30, The last time a WAC player scored more than 44 points was when Lee Nailon had 46 points against Hawai i on Feb. 12, His 44 points are the most scored by a player in the state of Utah since Stan Mayhew of Weber State scored 45 points against Utah State during the season. Overall, Carroll s 44 points are tied for the 18th-most points ever scored by a player from the state of Utah. His 15-of-15 shooting from the free throw line is a new school record for percentage, while his 15 made free throws is tied for the fourthmost in a single game in school history. Jim Boatwright was 14-of-14 from the free throw line against LSU on Dec. 29, Overall, Carroll becomes the 28th player in school history to not miss a free throw in a game with a minimum of 10 made free throws. His 12 made free field goals is a new career-high, as are his 15 free throws made and attempted. His 16 field goal attempts, however, is tied for the seventh most shots he has ever taken in a game. 15 HEAD COACH STEW MORRILL Stew Morrill (Gonzaga, 1974) is in his ninth season at the helm of the Utah State men s basketball program and has posted eight straight 20-win seasons, not to mention guiding the Aggies to seven straight postseason appearances. In his ninth year at USU, he has an incredible record ( overall), which is the best record by any coach at Utah State during that time span. Over the past seven years, Morrill has coached 13 first-team all-league players in Shawn Daniels (twice), Troy Rolle, Bernard Rock, Tony Brown, Desmond Penigar (twice), Mark Brown, Cardell Butler, Nate Harris (three times), and Spencer Nelson. In his first eight years at USU, he has had over an 80 percent graduation rate. He has been involved in postseason action 10 times in his career, including the NCAA Tournament at Utah State in 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2006, and the National Invitation Tournament in 2002 and He has been named Coach of the Year three times, winning the award in 1991 at Montana, and in 2000 and 2002 at Utah State.
