He was 7-for-10 in Sunday s doubleheader and slugged.929 with an OBP of.500 on the week. In Friday s series opener, Hagan drove in a run with a seventh-inning sacrifice fly in Mercer s 5-4 loss. Two days later, the Sugar Hill, Georgia, senior went 3-for-4 with two homers, a single, a walk, a stolen base, three RBIs and four runs scored as Mercer locked up at least a share of the SoCon title with a 7-6 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Terriers. Hagan continued to swing a hot bat in the second game of the twin bill, going 4-for-6 with an RBI and a run scored as the Bears clinched the title outright with the 11-7 win. The last SoCon team to win at least three consecutive titles was Western Carolina, which claimed three straight division titles from and added an overall title in 1989 when the league went away from division play. Furman finished its league slate in fourth place at 14-10, an impressive feat given the Paladins 1-8 SoCon start. The Paladins could finish anywhere from second to fifth in the standings, depending on other teams results this week. Wofford has hit 65 home runs this season, its most since the 2008 season. The Terriers have also stolen 123 bases, marking the team s fifth straight season with at least 100 steals. VMI s 9-7 win over Furman in 13 innings Sunday was the longest game in the Keydets history in terms of the time by nearly half an hour. The contest lasted 5 hours, 14 minutes. Three Western Carolina players currently boast double-digit reached-base safely streaks, with Matt Smith reaching in 33 consecutive games, followed by Brett Pope (16) and Matthew Koehler (12). The Citadel s JP Sears struck out 11 batters in Friday s 5-2 win over UNCG, pushing his career total to 301 Ks and his season total to a league-best 126. He needs seven more to enter the SoCon s career top 10 in that category. Western Carolina s Bryan Sammons is ninth at 311 in his career. Sears, VMI s Josh Winder (105) and Wofford s Adam Scott (100) have already hit the century mark in strikeouts this year, and Sammons (94) and ETSU s Ryan Simpler (91) are close behind. Should Sammons and Simpler surpass the milestone, the SoCon would have five pitchers with at least 100 strikeouts in the same season for just the third time ever and the first since The league has never had six pitchers hit 100 Ks in the same season, although WCU s Brendan Nail (82) and Furman s Will Gaddis (81) are within striking distance. Will Gaddis, Jr., RHP Furman 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 H, 6 K, 1 BB, 8.0 IP Furman s Gaddis, the reigning SoCon Pitcher of the Year, threw eight innings of four-hit, shutout ball in the Paladins 8-2 win over VMI on Saturday. The junior from Brentwood, Tennessee, struck out six and walked just one, facing just three batters over the minimum over his eight innings of work and retiring the final seven batters he faced in order. Gaddis (7-3), who allowed just one runner to reach third on the day, needed just 94 pitches to lower his ERA to a SoCon-best 1.92 on the season and win his fifth straight start. The weekly award is Gaddis first this season and the third of his career.
