Rayson ranks second on CMU s career 3-pointers list with 234, Kozinski is fourth (219) and senior Blake Hibbitts is 10th (171). A year ago, Kozinski (84) and Rayson (81) ranked 2-3, respectively, in the MAC in 3-pointers made. The Chippewas have broken the program record for 3s in back-to-back season, making 322 in and 324 in Entering the season, CMU ranked seventh in the NCAA in most 3-pointers made over the last two seasons (646). HOME SWEET HOME Central Michigan and its fans have made McGuirk Arena one of the most difficult places in which to play in the Mid-American Conference over the past three seasons. The Chippewas are 9-1 at home this season, with five of the victories coming by double-digits, and have won 38 of their last 44 games in McGuirk. Each game has drawn more than 2,000 fans, with a season high of 2,708 in its MAC East crossover matchup with Miami on Jan. 21. After a record-breaking season, CMU s trend of home success continued in , as the Chippewas went 13-4 in McGuirk Arena. In its six home wins against MAC opponents in , CMU s average margin of victory was over 15 points. In , the Chippewas set a program record for home wins in a season a year ago, totaling 16, including eight versus MAC opponents. CMU found the confines of McGuirk ideal for its highpowered offense, as it shot 49% overall and 41% from 3-point range at home for the season. CMU s win over archrival Western Michigan on February 7 was a sellout, drawing a capacity crowd of 5,350 for the first time since McGuirk Arena was opened in Prior to the sell out against Western Michigan, CMU drew crowds of 4,000-plus fans twice (vs. Eastern Michigan and Ohio) in a season for the first time ever at home. The Chippewas received unprecedented support from its fans in , experiencing a surge of 1,015 fans per game, the eighth highest increase among mid-major programs. Son, Brady Coaching History Southern Indiana Assistant Coach SE Missouri State Assistant Coach Drake Assistant Coach Drake Head Coach Providence Head Coach 2012-present... Central Michigan Head Coach In just four years, Keno Davis has reversed the fortunes of the Central Michigan men s basketball program, transforming the Chippewas into a championship-caliber program, both on and off the court. Davis, who took over the program prior to the season, led the Chippewas to their second-straight Mid-American Conference West Division title in , further strengthening CMU s claim as a year-in, year-out contender. CMU marked its second-straight winning season, something the program had not accomplished since the late 1980s, and also accepted a bid to the Collegeinsider.com Tournament, marking the first time since 1971 that CMU had made back-to-back postseason appearances. The end of the season signaled the end of one era of CMU basketball as Davis said good-bye to a senior class led by Chris Fowler and John Simons. That duo, along with several other key contributors, comprised Davis first CMU recruiting class. The group became the building blocks for the foundation of Davis program, and both Fowler and Simons wrapped up their remarkable careers having left a legacy in the CMU record book. Fowler was named First Team All-MAC for the second straight year, became the first player in CMU history to make the College Sports Information Directors Association Academic All-District 5 Division I team, and he stands as CMU s all-time leader in assists, free throws attempted and free throws made. Simons is CMU s all-time leader in 3-pointers made and attempted. Both Fowler and Simons received the MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award, and were three-time Academic All-MAC selections. In 2016, CMU led the conference with four Academic All-MAC selections, twice as many as any other team. It marked the third consecutive year that CMU had more players honored for their academic success than any team in the league. The Chippewas ended the spring, 2016 semester with 10 student-athletes having compiled a grade point average of 3.0 or better. Statistically, the Chippewas committed just 303 total turnovers -- the lowest among the 351 NCAA Division I teams -- in their 33 games throughout the season. CMU s 9.2 turnovers per game ranked second nationally. In , Davis engineered the nation s fifth-largest turnaround and captured CMU s first Mid-American Conference Regular-Season Championship since the season. Central Michigan posted 23 wins, a 13-win improvement from the previous year, tying for the second most in program history. After being selected 11th in the MAC preseason poll, the Chippewas proved to be the class of the conference as they won 12 games, claimed the MAC West title outright and served as the No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament. A postseason berth, its first in over a decade, followed as CMU earned a No. 6 seed for the National Invitation Tournament. Spurring Central Michigan s success is its trademark fast-paced, exciting style of play. Dubbed 3MU for the team s prolific shooting ability from beyond the arc, CMU broke the program record for the second consecutive season for 3-pointers made, knocking down 324 after compiling 322 in and ranking third nationally with 10.1 triples per game. Simons finished the season as the nation s top 3-point shooting forward. For orchestrating CMU s historic turnaround, Davis was selected as MAC and National Association of Basketball Coaches District Coach of the Year. In recognition of success achieved on the court and his moral integrity displayed off the court, Davis was also honored with the 2015 Skip Prosser Award. Davis continued emphasis on the importance of academics was reflected in the fact that CMU was one of only 19 Division I schools to receive the Team Academic Excellence Award from the NABC. Davis and his assistants have also made inroads in another key area -- camps. The attendance number for the 2015 team camp doubled from previous years and CMU hosted approximately 1,000 youngsters during its four camps throughout the summer months. Though at the head of the CMU program for just three years, Davis positive and uplifting message has clearly struck an immediate chord with Chippewa fans. His Twitter account boasts more than 22,000 followers, ranking Davis in the top 15 among all Division I head coaches and first among all mid-major programs. DAVIS BACKGROUND IS STEEPED IN TRADITION AND SUCCESS Davis was introduced by Central Michigan University Associate Vice President/Athletics Director Dave Heeke as the Chippewas 20th head men s basketball coach on April 3, Davis brought four years of Division I head coaching experience, and in 2008 was named the coach of the year by CENTRAL MICHIGAN CHIPPEWAS BASKETBALL

14 six national organizations, including the Associated Press, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, and The Sporting News. In one season at Drake and three at Providence, Davis compiled a (.574) record and made two postseason appearances. In his first season as a head coach, , Davis led Drake to a 28-5 mark, which included a 15-3 record in the Missouri Valley Conference. His team captured its first MVC regular-season title since 1971 and its firstever MVC Tournament title. Drake became the first league school to win both the regular season and tournament titles since 2002, and the Bulldogs made their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since Drake was nationally ranked for a school-record eight consecutive weeks and finished 14th in the Associated Press Poll and 23rd in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. Davis inherited a team that had graduated four starters from a squad that went in Davis took a team that was picked to finish ninth in the MVC to the program s first top-25 ranking since Moving to Providence in , Davis guided the Friars to a mark in his first season, including a 10-8 finish in the BIG EAST. The 19 victories was the most for a first-year coach in the history of the program, and two of those wins came over top-15 teams, including Pittsburgh, which was ranked No. 1 nationally when the Friars posted an upset. That Providence squad finished tied for sixth place in the conference after it was picked to finish 12th in the league preseason poll. Davis led Providence to its first BIG EAST Tournament victory in six years and into the postseason as the Friars earned an at-large bid to the NIT. In Davis team ranked third in the nation in scoring at 82.4 points per game. Davis has a proven track record of developing players and preparing them for the next level. In seven years as a head coach, 16 of his players have gone on to play professionally, headlined by Providence s MarShon Brooks, who was selected by the Boston Celtics with the 25th overall pick in 2011 after earning multiple All- America honors. Prior to taking over as the head coach at Drake, Davis served as an assistant under his father, Dr. Tom Davis, at Drake from Keno Davis began his coaching career in 1995 as an assistant for two years under Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana, then served as an assistant under Gary Garner at Southeast Missouri State from Davis was exposed to basketball at a very young age as he watched his father become one of the NCAA s all-time winningest coaches. In 32 seasons as a head coach at Lafayette ( ), Boston College ( ), Stanford ( ), Iowa ( ) and Drake ( ), Tom Davis registered a mark (.628), which included 18 postseason appearances and win seasons. Keno Davis and his father share the distinction of being the only father-son duo to have captured national coach of the year honors.
