Kamie Ethridge is in her second year as the head coach, compiling a record. While this is her first head coaching position, Ethridge spent 18 years as the associate head coach at Kansas State. As former members of the Intermountain Athletic Conference, State and Northern Colorado have met 10 times in series history. Overall, the Aggies lead the series, 7-3, snapping the Bears winning streak last season. Northern Colorado traveled to Logan last year, falling to the Aggies, While the exact date is unavailable, the first meeting between the two teams was in the season. SCOUTING HASKELL Indian Nations is an NAIA school located in Lawrence, Kansas. is the only four-year athletic program in the United States where all student-athletes represent diverse American Indian and Alaska Native nations. The Athletics programs were a part of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference until it was dissolved after the season. The women s basketball team now plays independently. The Indians are 7-2 so far this season, including a 5-1 road record. The team started the season on a seven-game winning streak before losing its last two. The Indians will host Ottawa University prior to making the trip to Logan. Overall, the team is averaging 61.7 points per game, but other statistics are unavailable. Shane Flanagan is in his fifth season as the head coach at, where he has a record. No stranger to the Mountain West, Flanagan was a longtime assistant coach at New Mexico before joining the staff and played college basketball at Boise State. TALE OF TWO AVERAGES The Aggies are off to a hot start offensively this season. Averaging 76.8 points per game, State is second in the Mountain West. Three USU players rank in the top 25 of scorers in the conference, with Funda Nakkasoglu tied for first (18.0 ppg), Katie Toole tied for 11th (12.5 ppg) and Rachel Brewster ranked 21st (10.8 ppg). However, on the other end, State ranks 10th of the 11 Mountain West teams in scoring defense. Four games into the year, the Aggies are allowing opponents to score and average of 78.2 points per game. HIT THE ROAD, JACK After playing five consecutive games at home, including exhibition games, to open the season, State is in the process of playing six of its remaining eight non-conference games on the road. Once Mountain West action begins, the Aggies will play nine road games before the conference tournament. Alltime, State is in road matchups. The last time the Aggies won a road game was at Air Force on Jan. 27, 2015, the sole road win for USU last season. STARTING FRESH With nine newcomers and just one returning starter on the State roster this season, the team is having to rely on young, inexperienced players. Four freshmen have already seen time in the Aggie starting lineup. Guards Katie Toole, Rachel Brewster and Victoria Price have been a part of the starting five, along with center Deja Mason. Toole and Brewster have both been the leading scorer in one game so far, while Mason and Brewster have led the team in rebounds. START EM YOUNG With four freshmen and one sophomore, State boasts the youngest starting lineup in the country based on eligibility. When looking at experience, the Marquette starting five combined for just nine starts prior to this season. Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu is the sole returning starter for the Aggies this season, earning 28 starts last year. AN OFFENSIVE BALANCE In the four games this season, three different State players have led the team in scoring. Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu was the top scorer against Westminster (24) and Pacific (37), while freshman guard Katie Toole led against Sacramento State (22) and freshman guard Rachel Brewster was tops at BYU (17). Nakkasoglu, Toole and Brewster are all averaging more than 10 points per game, while Nakkasoglu was the sole Aggie player to do so last season. GUESS WHO S BACK, BACK AGAIN Sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu is the sole returning starter for the Aggies this season and is jumping back in where she left off last season. The Mountain West Freshman of the Year continues to lead the Aggies on the court this season. She has scored in double figures three times this season, breaking the 20-point barrier twice. She scored a career-best 37 points in State Game Notes 2 Nov. 23, 2015

3 the win over Pacific, the first 30-point game of her career. NO PLACE LIKE HOME After playing eight of the 13 non-conference games on the road during the season, the Aggies are excited to spend the majority of this year s preseason inside the familiar walls of the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Including the two exhibition games, State will open the season with five-straight home games. The team will not leave the state until December, when the Aggies play. Since the reinstatement of the USU program in 2003, the Aggies are when playing in the Spectrum. STOPPING THE CAROUSEL As State head coach Jerry Finkbeiner enters his fourth season at the helm of the program, this will be the first time he has had the same full staff of assistant coaches for two consecutive years. Micha Thompson is the longest-tenured Aggie assistant, as she joined Finkbeiner in his first season at USU in Ben Finkbeiner and JC Carter both joined the staff last season. OUR OWN UNITED NATIONS The State coaching staff continues to recruit outside of the United States, building a roster that features five international players from four countries and three continents. Melbourne, Australia has proven to be kind to State, with sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu and freshman guard Rachel Brewster joining the team from Down Under. Europe is represented through senior forwards Julianne Anchling (Faverges de la Tour, France) and Tijana Djukic (Kikinda, Serbia). This season, State also welcomes junior forward Angelica de Paulo, a native of São Paulo, Brazil. DEEP IN THE HEART OF TEXAS Another strong recruiting area for the Aggies is the Lone Star State. This season s team has four Texas natives on it, who all come from rich basketball backgrounds. Junior college transfer forward Antoina Robinson is a Dallas native, while freshman guard Victoria Price grew up in Grand Prairie, a Dallas suburb. Sophomore guard Baylee Peck hails from Leander, about 180 miles outside of Dallas, and freshman center Deja Mason went to high school in San Antonio. SOMETHING TO PROVE State women s basketball has been picked ninth in the Mountain West Women s Basketball Preseason Poll as voted on by a panel of the league s 11 head coaches and media representatives. Colorado State, the regular-season champion, was picked to finish first in the conference with 237 points, including 12 first-place votes. New Mexico was tabbed second with 221 total points and seven first-place votes, while last season s tournament champion, Boise State, came in third with 215 points, including six first-place votes. Fresno State was selected fourth with 182 points, followed by UNLV (138 points) and San Diego State (135 points). Wyoming was slated seventh (125), with San José State coming in eighth (93). The Aggies hold the ninth-place spot with 79 points, one point ahead of Nevada in ninth with 78. Air Force rounds out the 11-team poll with 26 points. EARLY ACCOLADES State sophomore guard Funda Nakkasoglu, the defending MW Freshman of the Year, was selected to the Preseason All-Mountain West Team. Nakkasoglu is the first State player to receive the preseason nod since the Aggies joined the Mountain West. She is the first to be named to the preseason all-conference list since Devyn Christensen was named to the Preseason All-Western Athletic Conference First-Team prior to the season. Joining Nakkasoglu on the preseason team is Boise State junior guard Brooke Pahukoa, Colorado State junior guard Ellen Nystrom, New Mexico senior forward Khadijah Shumpert and Wyoming senior guard Marquelle Dent. Junior forward Antoina Robinson ended the scoring skid for the Aggies before cementing the half with a final shot. BYU got the last word of the half, however, sending the game into the halftime break with a advantage, the Aggies biggest halftime deficit of the season. Sophomore point guard Funda Nakkasoglu scored a career-high 37 points as State s women s basketball won its second straight game in thrilling fashion, beating Pacific at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday night. Nakkasoglu, whose previous career high was 28 points set at New Mexico last season, shot 11-for-24 from the field and 13-for- 14 from the free throw line. She also had four rebounds and one assist. Nakkasoglu is the first Aggie to score 30 points in a game since Jennifer Schlott had 38 against during the campaign. Tijana Djukic also had a career night for the Aggies (2-1), who scored the final nine points of the game. The senior forward had a career-high-tying 14 points, to go along with a career-best 15 rebounds. Freshman guard Rachel Brewster scored in double figures for the first time in her career with 11 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds as State out-rebounded Pacific 49-34, including an 18-7 edge on the offensive glass. Hailie Eackles and Eli Lopez Sagrera led the Tigers (2-2) with 24 and 18 points apiece, respectively. A layup by Eackles gave Pacific a lead with 3:32 remaining in the fourth quarter. That was the last basket by the Tigers as they missed the final six shots they took from the field. The visitors from Stockton, Calif., shot 37.9 percent on the night and committed 13 turnovers. The Aggies clawed back a bit early in the third quarter, but several stops by the officials slowed momentum. Over a stretch, the State defense held the Cougars to 2-of-13 shots, but roles reversed as the Aggies then hit a scoring skid with several turnovers. A 3-point shot from senior forward Julianne Anchling was the final score of the quarter, which concluded in a lead for the Cougars. State kept up the fight through the fourth quarter, led by Brewster and Djukic. The Cougars hit a 2:41 scoring drought, ended only by a free throw. The Aggie defense again held BYU to limited scoring in the final period, as the Cougars shot 2-of-14 in the final 10 minutes. As the clock ticked down, nether team made a field goal for more than four minutes as the teams combined for 12-straight missed attempts. Toole finally ended the skid for both teams with a 3 as time hit the one-minute mark. The Cougars maintained their double-figure lead, however, with a layup scored at the buzzer. Overall, State shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field, 20.0 percent (3-of-15) from the 3-point line and 59.3 percent (16-of-27) from the free throw line. BYU shot 41.6 percent (32-of-77) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from behind the arc and 66.7 percent (12- of-18) from the free throw line. Fittingly, it was Nakkasoglu that gave State the lead back for good as she knocked down a couple of free throws with 2:24 remaining. Nakkasoglu scored six points during the Aggies game-ending 9-0 run. Eackles scored 10 of her points in the first quarter to help Pacific open up an lead. An Eackles 3-pointer gave the Tigers their largest lead of the night, 23-15, with 7:41 remaining in the second quarter. However, the Aggies clawed back and tied the game at 30-apiece with 43 seconds left until halftime, but Lopez Sagrera knocked down two free throws to give the Tigers a lead at intermission. Both teams heated up from the floor in the third quarter as State shot 45.5 percent from the field, while Pacific shot 61.5 percent. A 3-pointer by freshman guard Katie Toole gave State a lead with 6:54 remaining in the quarter. It was the Aggies first lead since the 4:01 mark of the first. A couple of free throws by Nakkasoglu gave the Aggies a lead heading into the fourth. State Game Notes 6 Nov. 23, 2015

It was a slow start offensively for both teams Sunday night. State was first on the board, scoring on a free throw from freshman center Hannah Hutchins in the first minute, opening the game on a 3-0 start. After several ties and a lead change, Northern Colorado got its lead that it would hold on to until midway through the second half. The Bears led by as many as six in the first half, heading into the locker room with a lead. This was State s first win of the season when trailing at the half. Both teams came out of the break strong, alternating baskets for the majority of the half. After scoring just two points in the first half, Lee recorded 22 in the second for the Bears. As Northern Colorado again got ahead by six, the Aggies went on a 10-4 run to get the lead back, where it would remain in their favor for the rest of the game. After getting ahead by eight, State slowed down its pace and Northern Colorado was able to catch up once again. In the final seconds of the game, the Bears had the ball, down just three points. Lee made a free throw, but her team then fouled Nakkasoglu, who then made a pair of free throws of her own, sealing the win for the Aggies. Northern Colorado tallied 31 personal fouls, the most of any Aggie opponent this year, while State had 17. D Shara Strange, Lindsay Mallon and Kyleigh Hiser all fouled out of the game for the Bears, while USU senior forward Ingrida Strikas was the sole Aggie forced to sit out.
