The Huskies improved to 7-0 overall for the season. The win gives the team a 5-0 record in 7A Region 4. Sparkman fell to 5-2 overall on the year and 3-2 in region play. The Huskies once again got off to a fast start. On the opening drive Junior quarterback Paul Tyson connected deep down the middle of the field with Senior wide receiver Logan Pitts for a 48-yard touchdown. On the next drive, Tyson hit Senior Lee Reagan for a 7-yard touchdown. The first quarter was just halfway finished and the Huskies led Sparkman answered back with the long touchdown run. The extra point failed and the lead was cut to The Huskies once again put a nice drive together, but this time they were stopped short of the end zone. Kicker Parker Colburn connected on a 27-yard field goal to once again give the Huskies a double digit lead. Tyson led another productive drive for the Huskies as halftime neared. He threw a well-designed screen pass to Elliott McElwain and he scored from 25-yards out. Kicker Parker Colburn got another field goal chance on the final play of the half. This time he made a 42-yard field goal and the Huskies took a 27-6 lead in the locker room. The offense continued to play well as third quarter began. Cameron Bledsoe scored on a 35-yard run to give the Huskies a 34-6 lead. It looked like the team was on the way to another big win but Sparkman battled back. Senators quarterback Devin Kimbrough scored on an 11-yard run to cut the lead to Early in the 4th quarter, Sparkman scored on an 11-yard run and suddenly the Husky lead was just 14 points. The Huskies put together a nice drive late in the 4th quarter, but fumbled inside the Senators 20- yard line. Kimbrough once again made a play for Sparkman as he rushed in from 44-yards out to cut the lead to with just over four minutes left. The Hewitt-Trussville offense responded with several first downs and was eventually able to run out the clock to secure a victory. Coach Josh Floyd said, I told the guys, this is 7A football. You have to be fired up after a win. Obviously as coaches it is not going to be too much fun to watch the film with the guys because there s a lot of mistakes, too many penalties. The Huskies will be on the road next Friday as they travel to play Huntsville. The game will be played at Milton Frank Stadium.
