3 PAC-10 NOTEBOOK SEASON PREVIEW Returning All-Pac-10 performers... There'll be plenty of opportunities for Pac-10 student-athletes to make a name for themselves as the league returns just four All-Pac-10 performers - California guards Patrick Christopher (first team) and Jerome Randle (first team), Arizona guard Nic Wise (second team) and Washington guard Isaiah Thomas (second team). Points from the long ball... The league returns four of its top 10 scorers and eight of its top 10 in three-point field goal percentage. California!s Jerome Randle (18.3 pg) is the league!s top returning scorer, while UCLA!s Michael Roll led the league in three-point accuracy (.515). In fact, the top three players in terms of three-point field goals made game return - Oregon's Tajuan Porter (2.8 pg), Arizona State's Rihards Kuksiks (2.7 pg) and Randle (2.5 pg). Porter has 279 career three-pointers and is four away from setting the Oregon career record. Thank you for being so thoughtful... The league returns three of the top five players in assists. California's Jerome Randle led the Pac-10 with 5.0 assist per game, followed by Arizona State's Derek Glasser (4.8 apg). Arizona's Nic Wise was fifth in the league with 4.6 assists per game. Defense wins... Washington State led the nation in scoring defense (55.4 ppg). It was a Pac-10 record sixth consecutive season in which the Cougars led the league, and It!s the lowest scoring defense average since Oregon State allowed just 55.0 ppg during the season... In all, five teams held the opposition to fewer than 65 ppg. All five teams appeared in the postseason. Home sweet home...the Pac-10 averaged 8,340 fans during the season. It's the fourth time in five years that the averaged attendance topped 8,250 fans... Pac-10 teams posted a 75-9 (.893) record at home in non-conference action. Postseason success... For the second straight season, a record nine Pac-10 teams played in the postseason (6 NCAA, 1 NIT, 2 CBI). For the third consecutive year, the Pac-10 had a record-matching six teams appear in the NCAA Tournament (also achieved in 2002, 2007 and 2008)... Over the last four seasons, the Pac-10 has posted a record of (.593) in NCAA Tournament play... Oregon State captured the CBI title, winning its best-of-three series with UTEP. New coaches... With three hires in the off-season, there has been seven coaching changes in the Pac-10 over the last two years. Arizona will have its fourth different head coach in four years as Sean Miller takes over in Tucson. Ken Bone was tabbed to take over the reigns at Washington State. Kevin O'Neill, no stranger to Pac-10 basketball after serving as interim head coach at Arizona in , takes over at USC. For Country...
