3 UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS... The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team hits the road for the final time in the regular season, heading to Athens for a Wednesday (March 1) matchup with Ohio University. Head coach Jennifer Roos and the Falcons will meet the Bobcats in a 7:00 p.m. tipoff at the Convocation Center. Then, the Brown and Orange will return home to conclude the regular-season slate on Saturday (March 4). BGSU will welcome Miami University to town on "Senior Day" at the Stroh Center. Tipoff is set for 12:00 p.m., with the Falcons' four seniors Leah Bolton, Rachel Konieczki, Abby Siefker and Ashley Tunstall recognized in ceremonies prior to the game. THE FALCONS AND THE MAC TOURNAMENT As the final week of the regular season begins, the Falcons are tied for fourth in the Mid-American Conference's East Division. If the MAC Tournament began today, BGSU would be the ninth seed for the MAC Tournament. The Falcons will end the regular season as either the ninth or 10th seed for the league tourney, and will travel to face an opponent to be determined in tournament first-round action on Monday (March 6). Here are the current MAC standings and remaining MAC games for each team... MAC STANDINGS CURRENT SEEDS & REMAINING SCHEDULE # Team W-L Wednesday Saturday 1. Central Michigan v. EMU 2. Ball State v. Ball COMEBACK KIDS In each of BGSU's last two road games, the Falcons have posted a two-point win after trailing by as many as 14 points earlier in the game. BGSU topped Miami, 61-59, on Feb. 18, then won a decision at Buffalo seven days later. In the first three quarters of each of those games, the Falcons led for a grand total of 58 seconds. BGSU never led until early in the fourth quarter of the Miami game, taking the lead for the first time on Ashley Tunstall's three-pointer with 8:52 to go. MU retook the lead briefly before BG went back ahead for good on a pair of Haley Puk free throws. Then, at Buffalo, the Falcons did not take a lead until late in the first half, only to see UB go back ahead less than a minute later. The Brown and Orange did not lead again until Sydney Lambert hit a triple to end an epic offensive possession by the Brown and Orange with 4:52 left in the game. That three-ball gave BG the lead for good. BG led for a total of 14:25 of the 80 minutes of those two games. The Falcons cut Buffalo's lead to a single point, 55-54, early in the fourth quarter of Saturday's (Feb. 25) game, and the BG defense then got a stop, forcing Stephanie Reid to miss a shot with 6:48 to go. What followed was one of the longest possessions if not THE longest* in Falcon basketball history. The Falcons seemingly went on the power play, as to use a football-related phrase after using a hockey-related phrase Buffalo's defense could not get off the field. By the time UB had the ball once again, just 4:52 remained. BG's possession lasted nearly two minutes, and included offensive rebounds by Haley Puk, Sydney Lambert, Abby Siefker, Siefker again, Puk again, Carly Santoro, and a team rebound after the ball went out of bounds off of a UB player. That last play took the teams into the final media timeout of the day, and when play resumed, Lambert drained a three-point try from the left wing. BGSU led, 57-55, and the Falcons never trailed again. LAST TIME OUT: COMEBACK KIDS WIN AT BUFFALO, In case you hadn't already heard... the Falcons battled back from a double-digit deficit on not one, but two occasions Saturday afternoon (Feb. 25), posting a win at Buffalo. Senior Abby Siefker had a doubledouble, with 10 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. JoAnna Smith, the Bulls' lone senior, had a game-high 25 points on Senior Day. Stephanie Reid added 16 points for the hosts. Lambert made five of the Falcons' eight three-point field goals on the day, while Smith hit five of UB's eight long-range shots. The Falcons fell behind by 12 points late in the first quarter, but promptly went on a 12-0 run to tie the game early in the second period. Smith scored the last five points of the first half, then fueled a third-quarter surge that gave the Bulls a 14-point lead late in the period. But, the Falcons battled all the way back to capture the victory. BGSU outrebounded the Bulls, 48-38, in the win. And, the Falcons had 19 offensive rebounds on the afternoon. Eleven of those offensive caroms came in the fourth quarter alone, including seven on one possession in which the Falcons were on offense for an incredible one minute and 56 seconds. The Falcons allowed the Bulls to shoot just 3-for-16 (18.8%) from the field in the fourth quarter. BGSU, as mentioned earlier in these notes, took the lead for good on that possession that lasted nearly two minutes, on Lambert's triple with under five minutes to go. Much more information on the win at Buffalo can be found at BGSUFalcons.com. THE BIG FOUR-OH (PLUS ANOTHER OH): FALCONS FIRST TO 400 In February, the Falcons reached a milestone. Bowling Green became the first program in Mid-American Conference history to post 400 conference wins. BGSU now has an all-time record of (.676) in MAC regular-season contests. No other MAC program has more than 389 league wins (Toledo), and only one other MAC institution (UT) has won more than 60 percent of its games in conference play over the years. * for some reason, BGSU's SID has never kept time-of-possession records. Sad! FALCON WOMEN'S NOTES 4

5 FALCONS VS. THE EAST The Falcons are in the midst of a stretch of five consecutive games vs. MAC East Division members to end the regular season. BGSU is 4-4 vs. the East so far this year. In those eight intradivisional games, the Falcons have a scoring margin of +1.3, a rebounding margin of +5.5 and a better three-point FG pct. and free-throw pct. than the opponents. BG is nearly matching the foes' overall FG pct. (.369 to.378), and the Falcons have 60 three-pointers to 41 for the opposition in those eight contests. Sophomore Carly Santoro is averaging 14.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game vs. the East, while classmate Sydney Lambert has 12.5 ppg, 4.4 rpg and has shot.418 from three-point range (23-of-55). Four other Falcons are scoring between 5.9 and 7.6 ppg against East Division foes, including senior Ashley Tunstall, who has 7.6 ppg and 6.0 rpg, and classmate Abby Siefker, who has 7.4 points and 7.6 boards per game against the East. GO TO THE GLASS The Falcons have shattered the team's offensive rebound total for all of last season. The team had a total of 271 offensive rebounds, an average of fewer than 10 (9.82, since you asked) per game. This winter, through 28 games. BG has pulled down 407 offensive boards, an average of per game. In , only one BGSU player (Lauren Tibbs, 59) had more than 50 offensive rebounds. But, this year, three Falcons have topped that mark. Seniors Abby Siefker and Ashley Tunstall have 92 and 71 offensive boards, respectively, while sophomore Carly Santoro has 57. Fellow sophomore Sydney Lambert has 10.1 ppg to rank second on the team. The point guard leads the Falcons in assists (2.2 apg), steals (1.0 spg) and three-pointers made (67). Lambert has started all 56 of BGSU's games since her arrival on campus, and is now tied for 12th in school history with 123 career three-pointers made. Senior Abby Siefker has 6.9 ppg and 7.5 rpg, leading the team in boards and ranking third in points. Siefker paces the team in blocked shots (0.8 bpg), and the center is second on the Falcons in assists (1.9 apg). She has scored in double digits seven times this season, and has led the Brown and Orange in assists on 13 occasions. Senior Ashley Tunstall and junior Haley Puk are averaging 6.5 and 6.3 ppg, respectively, while freshman Andrea Cecil has 4.8 ppg, classmate Caterrion Thompson 4.7 and junior Rachel Myers 4.4. Puk is third on the team in threepointers made (31), while Tunstall is third with 5.6 rpg. Tunstall is tied with Siefker for third on the team with seven double-digit scoring games, while Puk has six. Lambert, Santoro and Siefker each have started all 28 games this year, while Tunstall has started 27 and Puk 21. Myers started the first seven games of the season, while freshman Clare Glowniak (3.5 ppg, 2.6 rpg) has made one start this year. The Falcons are shooting.352 from the field,.300 from beyond the arc and.680 from the free-throw line. The opponents are shooting.408,.309 and.660, respectively. BG has a rebounding margin of +2.4, and the Falcons have outboarded the opponent in 19 of this year's 28 games to date. BGSU has hit 7.3 three-pointers per game. In MAC play, Santoro is averaging 12.9 points and 7.5 rebounds per game to lead the Falcons in both categories, while Lambert has 11.4 ppg, 4.1 rpg and 2.0 apg and has made 44 three-pointers. Lambert is shooting.404 from long distance vs. conference foes. Tunstall and Puk are averaging 8.0 and 6.9 ppg, respectively, with Tunstall pulling down 6.3 rpg in league play, and Siefker has 6.3 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Heidi Schlegel welcomed back a total of eight returning letterwinners from a year ago. That group includes a trio of seniors in Siefker, Tunstall and Rachel Konieczki. Myers and Puk comprise the junior class, while sophomores Lambert, Santoro and Maddie Cole complete the list of returning players. The eight active returnees were joined by four freshmen in Cecil, Glowniak, Thompson and Jane Uecker. The entire team including the incoming frosh got a jump-start on the '16-17 season with a trip to Cuba in August, as the Falcons were able to practice prior to the trip, then play three games while on the foreign tour. THREE-MARKABLE Through the years, BGSU rosters typically have been stocked with players who can score from long range. No fewer than 12 different players made at least one threepoint field goal last season, and all 12 members of the active roster have knocked down at least one trey this year FALCON WOMEN'S NOTES 6

7 THREE-MENDOUS The Falcons made 10 or more three-point field goals on seven occasions last season, including five times in MAC play. Earlier this year, BGSU drained a season-high 15 treys against Akron at the Stroh, and BG has made at least 10 triples four times (all in MAC play) and eight long-range shots in 14 of this year's 28 games. THREE-LIGHTFUL The Falcons made at least five three-point field goals in 24 of last season's 28 games, and BG hit at least four triples in all 28 contests. And, BGSU has connected at least four times in 25 of this year's 28 games to date. THREE-GION OF BOOM In fact, BG has knocked down four or more three-pointers in 85 of the last 89 games, dating to late in the season. THREE-... UMMM, SOME OTHER PHRASE THAT STARTS WITH 'THREE' BGSU will be looking to extend a mucho-impressive streak in the Ohio game. The Falcons have hit at least one three-pointer in each of the last 397 games. BG has not been held without a triple in nearly 12 years since Feb. 12, 2005, at Akron, when the Falcons won, 61-52, despite going 0-of-13 from long distance. FALCONS IN CUBA In August, the Falcons made an historic trip, traveling to Cuba for a cultural immersion tour. Bowling Green became only the third NCAA college team, and just the second women's basketball team, to travel to Cuba (Louisville went to Cuba three days before the Falcons' trip began). The Falcon travel party received a warm welcome from the residents of the island nation, and BGSU players and coaches played three games including two against the Cuban National Team and conducted several clinics with local children and a Havana-based university team while on the trip. For Coach Roos and the Falcons, the off-court lessons were just as important as any practices or games, and each member of the travel party learned a great deal about the people, culture and history of Cuba. The team grew both on and off the court during an eventful nine days in mid-august, and the BGSU coaches and student-athletes were wonderful ambassadors for their nation and the game of basketball. A TRADITION OF SUCCESS Bowling Green has won 14 MAC regular-season championships and 11 league tournament titles, the highest totals among all conference teams. Prior to the injuryplagued season of , the Falcons had won at least 20 games in a MAC-record 11 consecutive seasons. BG won at least 24 games in nine-straight seasons during that span, losing just 18 total games in MAC regular-season play during those nine years. In March of 2015, then-bgsu Director of Athletics D. Christopher Kingston announced a two-year contract extension for Roos. That extension was well-deserved. In , her second season at the helm, all Roos did was guide the Falcons to 30 wins, the secondhighest victory total in program and MAC history. She was named MAC Coach of the Year, and also earned Region 4 C-O-Y honors. Since Roos arrived at BGSU, the Falcons have fashioned an overall record of and a MAC mark of Those numbers represent a success rate of nearly 70 percent in both conference and non-conference action. Over the last 13-plus years, however, the numbers are even more staggering. BG is overall, in MAC regular-season play and in all games vs. league foes during that time. The '13-14 Falcons won the MAC's regular-season title outright, with a 17-1 league mark, and posted non-conference wins over regional foes Ohio State and Michigan. BGSU downed U-M a second time, one of three WNIT victories as the Brown and Orange advanced all the way to the quarterfinal round of that 64-team tournament. BGSU s overall win total in fell just one shy of matching the school and MAC records for most victories in a season, and the Falcons total of 17 MAC wins tied that school mark. Roos came to the Falcons after spending eight years at Davidson College. She became a coach with the Wildcats upon graduation. Roos, a native of Louisville, Ky., was a member of both the Davidson club team and the varsity squad. The latter season marked the varsity program's first after a six-year absence.
