Smith played on Butler s basketball teams from the through seasons. He was a member of both national championship game teams (2010, 2011) and an Academic All-American. He is one of three players in program history to record both 100 wins and 1,000 career points. Butler will wear a uniform patch in tribute to Andrew for the remainder of the season. A video tribute and moment of silence were observed at Butler s home game Jan. 16 against St. John s, a day before Andrew s Celebration of Life service that included a eulogy from Andrew s coach during his time at Butler, Brad Stevens. Coaches vs. Cancer: The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The program seeks to increase cancer awareness and promote healthy living among students, faculty and staff, fans and the community at large. Since its inception in 1993, the American Cancer Society Coaches vs. Cancer initiative has raised more than $93 million to support the Society s mission. In both contests this week, Butler coaches will wear sneakers with their suits to raise awareness of the initiative. The coaches are also wearing special laces for eight-year old cancer patient Lacey Holsworth and her special relationship with Michigan State s Adreian Payne that was chronicled during the NCAA basketball season. Although she shortly thereafter passed away, she gives hope and inspiration to millions of others afflicted with cancer. AGAINST THE BLUE DEMONS: Including his 24-point performance Jan. 5 at DePaul, Kellen Dunham is averaging 21.6 points per game in five career games against the Blue Demons. THREE IN A ROW: Sophomore Kelan Martin posted his third consecutive double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds at Creighton Saturday night. Saturday s performance by Martin came in a career-high 35 minutes. It was the seventh time this season that he led the Bulldogs in scoring : Three Bulldogs pulled down at least 10 rebounds Saturday at Creighton (Kelan Martin, 11; Roosevelt Jones, 10; Tyler Wideman, 10).
