3 OKLAHOMA CITY NOTES.... Two Weeks In: The Thunder enters tonight s game in Boston on the second night of a back-to-back in search of a fourth straight win against the Celtics. Although the Thunder remains winless on the road after last night s defeat against the Bucks, Oklahoma City led in the second half in games at Portland, Toronto and Milwaukee. Additionally, Oklahoma City had a chance to force overtime in Los Angeles against the Clippers on Oct. 30, but Serge Ibaka s 3- point field goal came up just short as time expired in regulation. Prior to leaving the Thunder s game at Toronto on Nov. 4 with a right knee contusion, Thunder forward Jerry Jones had averaged 23.7 points per game in his previous three outings (Including his career-high 32-point effort against the Clippers on Oct. 30). Entering this season, Jones had never scored more than 14 points in a NBA game. Bigs From Deep: Each and every season, Serge Ibaka has found various ways to improve his game. Early in the season, Ibaka has been effective shooting the ball from 3-point range. Including Ibaka s career-high four 3-point makes during the Thunder s recent game versus Memphis on Nov. 7, Ibaka is shooting 42.1% from long range this season ( FGs). Ibaka has made multiple 3-point makes in five games this season. Prior to this year, Ibaka had only two previous games during his career in which he made multiple 3-point field goals. In addition to Ibaka s long range precision, Nick Collision has also been effective shooting from 3-point range as well this season. In eight games, Collison has made five 3-point field goals (including two in the Thunder s recent win over SAC), which equals his combined career total entering this season. Home Opener: Playing with just eight healthy players during the club s home opener on Nov. 1 vs. the Nuggets, the Thunder held Denver to only 33 first half points (tied for the 4 th fewest in Thunder history) before going onto claim a fifth home opening victory in the last six years. On the night, five Thunder players scored in double figures. Serge Ibaka and Perry Jones both posted team-high honors with 23 points each, and Kendrick Perkins matched his all-time Thunder-high with 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Injury Bug: Heading into the Thunder s home opener versus Denver on Nov. 1, the Thunder found themselves missing seven players due to injury. To help illustrate the void in the rotation, the combination of injured Thunder players, Kevin Durant (32.0 ppg), Reggie Jackson (13.1 ppg), Jeremy Lamb (8.5 ppg), Anthony Morrow (8.4 ppg) and Russell Westbrook (21.8 ppg) combined to average 83.8 points per game during the NBA season. Boards are the Barometer: As one might expect, Oklahoma City has traditionally found its greatest success when outrebounding the opposition. Through the first two weeks of the season, the Thunder has only been outrebounded in one game this season. Steven Adams currently leads all second year players with 7.6 rebounds per game. Last season OKC went 44-8 when outrebounding the opposition (including 17-2 when outrebounding the opponent by 10 or more). OKC finished the year ranking seventh in the NBA in rebounding (44.7 rebounds per game), despite not having a player on the roster rank among the NBA s top-20 rebounders. On Jan , the Thunder limited the Brooklyn Nets to an all-time NBA low of just 17 rebounds. Getting Defensive: As one might expect, team defense is always critical to overall team success. So far this season, the Thunder ranks 9 th in the NBA in opponent field goal percentage (43.4%) and 10 th in points allowed (96.9 ppg). During the season, OKC limited its opponents to the third worst field goal shooting percentage in the NBA (43.6%). The Thunder finished the year going 18-2 when holding the opposition to sub 40.0% field goal shooting. Dating back to the start of the season, through the start of the season, the Thunder went 69-6 when holding their opponent to 42.0% or less field goal shooting. Sustaining Success: The Thunder enters the season one year removed from a 59 win season and a spot in the Western Conference Finals for a third time in four years. This coming season, Oklahoma City will be in search of a fifth straight Northwest Division title. During the past 25 years, only the Los Angeles Lakers ( through ) and the Boston Celtics ( through ) managed to win their respective division for five straight seasons. From the start of the season through the conclusion of the season, the Thunder posted a winning percentage of.708, which trailed only the Miami Heat (.718) and San Antonio Spurs (.740). Playoff Tested: During the season, the Thunder will look to reach the postseason for a sixth consecutive year. In each of the last four seasons, Oklahoma City has advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals and in three of the last four years, the Thunder has advanced to the Western Conference Finals. After defeating Memphis in the first round of the 2014 playoffs, the Thunder became the only Western Conference team to advance out of the first round in each of the last four seasons (Miami also accomplished the feat in the Eastern Conference). The trio of Durant, Ibaka and Westbrook have already played in 61 postseason games together. This total represents the most playoff appearances in NBA history for a set of three teammates at age 25 or younger. What a first week: The first week of the Thunder s season was not an easy one. After opening in Portland on Oct. 29, the Thunder traveled to Los Angeles to take-on the Clippers just 24 hours later. Two days later, the Thunder opened the regular season at home on Nov. 1 vs. Denver before heading east to take on Brooklyn 48 hours later. As if that wasn t enough, OKC plays the Raptors in Toronto the following night. The Trail Blazers, Clippers and Nets all made their home openers against Oklahoma City. One week, two back-to-backs, three time zones and 6,300 miles traveled. Sustaining Success: After the season in which Oklahoma City won 20 games after a 3-29 start, the Thunder has found ways to improve the club in each subsequent season. With a record during the season, Oklahoma City became just the second team in NBA history (Boston Celtics; ) to increase its winning percentage for five consecutive seasons (while maintaining a winning percentage of.700 or better in two of those seasons). The chart to the right illustrates the development of the Thunder program through the years. Oklahoma City and San Antonio are the only two NBA teams with a winning percentage of.610 (equivalent to 50 wins) in each of the last five seasons. Season Winning % Playoff Finish (59-23) Advanced to Conference Finals (60-22) Advanced to Conference Semifinals (47-19) Advanced to NBA Finals (55-27) Advanced to Conference Finals (50-32) Lost in first round (23-59) Missed the playoffs Home Cooking: Since arriving in Oklahoma City in 2008, the Thunder has always taken pride in defending its home court. Last season, OKC began a perfect 13-0 at Chesapeake Energy Arena (best home start for the Thunder in the Oklahoma City era) before falling to the Raptors on Dec. 22. The OKC franchise matched its best all-time home start (team also went 13-0 top open the season). The Thunder s 13 game home winning streak represented the second longest streak in the Oklahoma City era (won 14 games from 1/6/12 3/7/12). Oklahoma City finished the season with a home record of 34-7 (second best in the NBA) as the Thunder won its final six home games of the regular season. This year, the Thunder owns a 2-1 record at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

4 MVP: Kevin Durant s season has already gone down as one of the best individual seasons in recent memory. Durant (32.0 points per game) recorded his fourth NBA Scoring Title in the last five seasons and it doing so, he registered the highest point per game average in the NBA since Kobe Bryant averaged 35.4 ppg during the season. By averaging 32+ points, 7+ rebounds and 5+ assists, Durant joined a select group of NBA Greats to post such numbers. Players to average 32+ pts, 7+ rebs and 5+ assts (last 45 years) Kevin Durant Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Bob McAdoo Michael Jordan Results with Russell: Despite missing 36 games during the season recovering from a knee injury, Russell Westbrook continued his maturation as a player and the stats were quick to back it up. In his final 19 games of last season, Westbrook averaged 23.3 points on 47.0% shooting to go along with 7.2 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals. On Mar. 4 versus Philadelphia, Westbrook recorded his eighth career triple-double in just 20+ minutes of action to become the second fastest player to register a triple-double (Jim Tucker recorded a triple-double in 17 minutes of action on 2/20/55 as a member of the Syracuse Nationals). During the season, Westbrook was one of ONLY TWO PLAYERS (LeBron James) in the NBA to average 21+ points, 6+ assists and 5+ rebounds (min. 40 games). Additionally, Westbrook only improved his level of play during the 2014 playoffs. In 19 postseason games, Westbrook averaged 26+ points, 8+ assists and 7+ rebounds. In the last 50 years, only one other player (Oscar Robertson in 1963 & 1964) managed to hit those benchmarks during the playoffs (min. 10 games played). Westbrook scored 38 points during the Thunder season opener before sustaining a right hand injury in the team s second game of the season. The Draft Matters: The Thunder organization has always placed a great importance on the NBA Draft. Last season, the Thunder was the only team in the league to start five players all drafted by the franchise. Players drafted by the Thunder logged a total of 12,792 minutes last season, which led the NBA in this respect. Bouncing Back: In what has become a staple for the Thunder during the past few seasons, Oklahoma City has proven to be incredibly resilient in those games played after a loss. From the start of the season through the conclusion of the season, OKC posted a record in bounceback games (second best record in the NBA during this span; San Antonio). Ibaka Still Surging: During the season, Serge Ibaka once again displayed signs of continued development. On the season, Ibaka recorded 29 double-doubles (after posting 15 double-doubles during the season) while averaging career-highs in scoring (15.1 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg). To highlight Ibaka s consistency, the sixth year forward strung together 17 games in which he scored in double-figures (a career-long streak). Ibaka finished the season with a total of 219 blocks to become just the second player in NBA history (Dikembe Mutombo) to lead the NBA in total blocked shots for four consecutive seasons. Meanwhile, Ibaka s 2.70 blocks per game, ranked second in the NBA. Just Another Back-2-Back: Heading into the season, the Thunder is set to compete in a total of 18 back-to-backs (two of which will be played during the opening week of the season). Last year, the Thunder played in 15 sets of back-to-backs. After defeating the Kings and Clippers on consecutive nights during the second week of April, the Thunder claimed seven sweeps of a back-to-backs during the season. On the year, OKC went 12-3 on the first night and 8-7 on the second night of its back-to-back pairings. Making them Look Free: In what has become a staple for the Thunder program, OKC was once again very productive at the free throw line last season. Oklahoma City finishing the season ranked second in the NBA in free throw shooting accuracy (80.6%), and in doing so the Thunder became the first team in NBA history to shoot 80.0% or better from the line in five consecutive season (STATS Inc.). During the season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in free throw shooting, but OKC actually finished the year as the third best free throw shooting team in NBA history (82.8%). As a point of reference, the best all-time free throw shooting percentage for an entire season in NBA history is 83.2% (Boston Celtics; ). During the season Durant recorded 756 free throw makes, an all-time OKC Thunder franchise record and the 6 th most in NBA history for a single season. Durant s 756 free throws made were the most for a single-season since Michael Jordan recorded 833 free throw makes during the season. KD became the ONLY player in NBA history to convert 700+ free throws while shooting 90.0% or better. Scoring Leader: With 2,593 points scored during the regular season, Kevin Durant led the NBA in scoring for a fourth time in the last five seasons. Durant is now one of just five players in NBA history to win four or more scoring titles. During the season, Durant became the youngest scoring champ in NBA history (21 years & 197 days). Most Career Scoring Titles (based on ppg) Michael Jordan 10 Wilt Chamberlain 7 George Gervin 4 Allen Iverson 4 Kevin Durant 4 Team Basketball: On 22 occasions last season (Most recently: Apr. 8 at SAC), the Thunder prevailed during a game in which five players scored in double figures. During the year, the Thunder went 22-4 when five players score 10+ points. Over the last two seasons OKC has registered a mark of 50-7 when five players score in double figures. OKC is Fan Friendly: The Thunder once again played in front of a packed-house during the entire season as fans continued to fill Chesapeake Energy Arena. After registering sellouts during all 41 home games this past season, the Thunder has recorded sellouts in 133 consecutive regular season home outings and 168 games overall when including the postseason. Fans in attendance this season will continue to enjoy the improvements made to Chesapeake Energy Arena as part of a taxpayer funded initiative passed in March Thanks to the publically funded initiative, the team s arena boasts a state-of-the art scoreboard, new terrace suites, an updated main concourse with new concession stands, a new Sunset Lounge on the Club Level and a first-class courtside club.

5 250 for Brooks: After defeating the Atlanta Hawks earlier this season on Dec. 10, Thunder Head Coach, Scott Brooks claimed his 250 th career victory in his 401 st game. Brooks is now one of four coaches in the NBA to own 250+ wins with their current franchise (Rick Carlisle, Gregg Popovich and Erik Spoelstra). Fewest Games to 250 Wins, Coaches Beginning Career since (per STATS Inc.): Phil Jackson(346) Pat Riley (348) Billy Cunningham(363) K.C. Jones (367) Rick Adelman(373) Mike Brown (378) Erik Spoelstra (382) Paul Westphal (384) Stan Van Gundy (391) Rudy Tomjanovich (392) Scott Brooks (401) Road Warriors: The Thunder concluded its road schedule by going away from Chesapeake Energy Arena. During the season, the Thunder strung together a 6-game and an 8-game road win streak (the eight straight road wins were the most in the Oklahoma City era). In fact, it had been over a decade since the OKC franchise last won eight consecutive road games (last won eight straight road games from 1/24/02 2/27/02). Despite losing to the Pacers on Apr. 14, the Thunder went 12-3 on the road this season against Eastern Conference opponents. The Thunder s.610 road winning percentage was the second best in the NBA this past season (San Antonio). Block Party: As has become the norm in recent seasons, the Thunder once again finished the season among the top shot-blocking teams in the NBA (OKC ranked second in the NBA with 6.11 bpg). For a fourth straight season, Serge Ibaka led the NBA in total blocks (219) to become the second player in NBA history to record such a feat {Dikembe Mutombo ( )}. Prior to this past year, OKC led the NBA in blocks in each of the two previous seasons. During the season, the Thunder not only led the NBA in blocked shots (8.17 bpg), but Oklahoma City recorded the highest block per game total in the NBA in nearly 20 years. The Denver Nuggets team (8.37 bpg) was the last group to average more blocks than the OKC team. During , Ibaka led the NBA while setting an all-time franchise record with a 3.65 block per game average (most blocks per game since Theo Ratliff recorded 3.74 bpg during the season).
