2 MEDIA INFORMATION POST-GAME INTERVIEWS The Utah locker room is closed after all games. Post-game interviews will be conducted in the press area, set up in the women s basketball lounge. Prior to the conclusion of each game, the Utah athletic communications staff will survey press members in attendance for interview requests. INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES & PRACTICE POLICIES Only the last 15 minutes of practice are open to the media. At that time, media may watch practice. COACH KRYSTKOWIAK RADIO SHOW The Larry Krystkowiak Show will be carried weekly on the Utah Sports Radio Network and ESPN 700 Sports beginning Nov. 30, 2015, live from the Desert Edge Brewery at Trolley Square. The show s regular air time is Monday nights from 6-7 p.m. The Voice of the Utes, Bill Riley is the host. WEEKLY COACH KRYSTKOWIAK PRESS CONFERENCE Starting on Monday, Dec. 7, Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak will be speaking with the media at a weekly press conference starting at 10:15 a.m. Every Monday throughout the regular season, Coach Krystkowiak will address the media and then engage in a quick Q-and-A session. After he is done speaking, there will also be a Q-and-A session with selected players. 3 THE GAME The No. 3-seeded Utah Runnin Utes (27-8) advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round and will face the No. 11-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (27-7) this Saturday, March 19. Tip-off between the Utes and Bulldogs is set for 6:40 p.m. MT at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo. COVERING THE UTES Saturday s contest will be televised live on TNT. Andrew Catalon will call the action, while Steve Lappas provides color commentary for the game. Jamie Erdahl will be on-hand for sideline commentary Fans can also follow Saturday s game on-line at or via the March Madness Live app for your smart phone and/or tablet. Additionally, the game can be found on the Utah Sports Radio Network (ESPN 700). Bill Riley will provide play-by-play, with the assistance of in-game analyst Jimmy Soto. All of Westwood One s game broadcasts of the NCAA Tournament will also be transmitted on SiriusXM. There are multiple channels airing the games, but each venue s broadcasts will air on a specific channel. The SiriusXM channel assignment for Saturday s broadcasts will be determined on Friday. HOW THE UTES GOT HERE After earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, Utah secured the No. 3 seed in the Midwest Region and managed to down No. 14 seed Fresno State, 80-69, in first round action on Thursday. NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY Utah is making its second straight and 29th appearance overall in the NCAA Tournament. Following the win over Fresno State, the Utes improved to all-time in NCAA Tournament contests. This marks the third time that Utah has earned the No. 3 seed in the tournament since seeding was first introduced in the tournament back in Utah is now 7-2 all-time as the No. 3 seed, which included Utah s run to the National Championship Final back in The Utes went 1-1 in its first-ever No. 3 seeding back in UTES IN DENVER Utah is competing in postseason play in Denver for the first time ever in program history. Utah is now 1-0 all-time in the Mile High City, following its 11-point win over Fresno State on Thursday. ABOUT GONZAGA The Bulldogs are making its 18th straight and 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Following its win over No. 6 seed Seton Hall on Thursday, Gonzaga pushed its all-time NCAA Tournament record to SERIES HISTORY Utah leads the all-time series 3-2, but the Bulldogs are 1-0 all-time when facing the Utes on a neutral court. The only neutral court meeting between the two teams came back on Nov. 25, 2002, with Gonzaga coming away with a victory over the Utes in Maui, Hawaii. #POELTLPOWER Sophomore Jakob Poeltl posted a career-high 18 rebounds in Utah s first round win over Fresno State on Thursday. The Wooden Award finalist pulled down more rebounds himself than the Bulldogs did all game (15). Poeltl became the first Ute to pull down 15 or more boards since Delon Wright did so back in CLUB Jakob Poeltl notched 600 points in a single season with his first bucket against the Bulldogs on Thursday. He became the first Utah player to notch the 600-point club since Andrew Bogut tallied 715 points in BONAM SCORES, UTES WIN Junior Lorenzo Bonam scored 10-plus points for the 18th time this season, notching a team-best 17 points in Utah s win over Fresno State. Utah is 17-1 this season when the junior college transfer scores in double figures. BRAVING THE BULLDOGS Utah will be facing an opponent that has a Bulldog as its mascot for the third time in the last four games in the NCAA Tournament, dating back to last season. The Utes defeated Georgetown, who are named the Hoyas, but use the Bulldog as a mascot, in second round action last season and followed it up with an 11-point win over the Fresno State Bulldogs on Thursday. UP NEXT A win over Gonzaga on Saturday would put the Utes into the Sweet 16 for a second straight season. Utah would then face the winner of Syracuse and Middle Tennessee State next week in Chicago. Went (.677) in two seasons at Montana ( ), guiding the Grizzlies to a pair of Big Sky Conference Tournament Championships and two NCAA Tournament berths. Got his first opportunity as a head coach with the CBA s Idaho Stampede ( ), where he guided the team to a (.731) record and a trip to the CBA Finals in his lone season with the squad. Served as an assistant coach with the NBA s Milwaukee Bucks in before being elevated to head coach with 17 games remaining in the season. He compiled a record in his two seasons with the Bucks. Served as an assistant coach with the NBA s New Jersey Nets ( ) alongside head coach Avery Johnson. Was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the second round (28th overall pick) of the 1986 NBA Draft. Also played in the NBA for the San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz, Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers. He averaged 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in his nine-year playing career.
