Television: CBS broadcast with Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), Rich Gannon (analyst) and Scott Kaplan (sideline reporter). The game will air in the Bengals home market on WKRC-TV (Channel 12) in Cincinnati, WHIO-TV (Channel 7) in Dayton and WKYT-TV (Channel 27) in Lexington, Ky. Radio: Coverage on the Bengals Radio Network, led by a triple cast on Cincinnati flagship stations WLW-AM (700), WCKY-AM (ESPN 1530; all sports) and WEBN-FM (102.7). Broadcasters are Dan Hoard (play-by-play) and Dave Lapham (analyst). Setting the scene: The Bengals shoot this week for a sweep of their three-game Southern road trip, looking to win three on the road in three weeks for the first time in franchise history. They ll be favored to pull it off against a 2-9 Tampa Bay team, but they ll have to overcome a series history which shows the Buccaneers with six straight wins over Cincinnati. There s no room to let up, so let s make it three, NT Domata Peko said after last week s win at Houston, noting the continuing situation of an historically tight AFC North Division race. The Bengals at have a half-game lead on the other three teams, which are all at This is way it works in the NFL, said QB Andy Dalton. It s all about which team gets hot now and carries it into the playoffs. But nobody in our division is even in the playoffs yet. It s a five-game season now, and there s still everything to fight for. Last week s win at Houston marked the second straight week for the Bengals to win as a road underdog. Any win on the road is tough, head coach Marvin Lewis told the team in the post-game locker room, and you did a great job grinding this one out, in all three phases. But Lewis denied the predictable player calls for a Victory Monday a day off to start this week. There s too much ahead, and we ve got to stay on course, Lewis said. This was a great effort, but we ve still got errors to fix. Don t trade what you want for the moment for what we want most. Keep the focus, keep getting better. Lewis had a similar take when asked by media if a pair of road wins by more than one-score margins was a sign that his team has turned a corner and arrived to a goal of greater consistency than it showed earlier in the season. No, he replied, and after a pause to let that sink in, he went on: You ve got to keep turning corners; there s no being arrived in the NFL. We ve got to keep going, keep pushing. The Bengals had a number of highlights to celebrate, if only briefly, in their win a Houston. QB Andy Dalton led a win in his hometown after previously having suffered two road playoff losses to the Texans. WR A.J. Green had a career-high 12 catches, and HB Giovani Bernard returned to action after three games missed with injuries, teaming with star rookie HB Jeremy Hill in a tandem that looks oh-so-promising for the stretch run. The offensive line led pass protection allowing no sacks to a top pressure team led by superstar DE J.J. Watt. But Cincinnati s defense had to be taking the primary bows. The defense held Houston without a touchdown, the Texans scoring their lone six-pointer on an interception return, and Houston managed only 248 net yards, lowest of the season by a Bengals opponent. The Texans had rushed for 213 yards the GAME NOTES 1 WEEK 13, GAME 12 SUNDAY, NOV. 30 AT RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM UP NEXT: WEEK 14, GAME 13 DEC. 7 VS. PITTSBURGH previous week against Cleveland, but they managed only 64 against Cincinnati, with no rushing gain of more than nine yards. Stopping the run was the key, said Peko. They were coming at us with a talented quarterback (Ryan Mallett) but an inexperienced one, and a good running game is a young quarterback s best friend. We took that away and put a lot on his shoulders. The series: Tampa Bay has won six straight in its series with the Bengals to take an overall 7-3 lead, including 2-1 as the home team. The most recent meeting was a Bucs win in Cincinnati in The last game in Tampa was a Bucs win in The Bengals have not beaten the Bucs since 1989, when they prevailed at Riverfront Stadium. Cincinnati s only win in three visits to Tampa was in the first visit, a victory in Team bests from the series: Bengals MOST POINTS: 56, in a win at Riverfront Stadium in LARGEST VICTORY MARGIN: 33, from the 1989 victory. The last meetings: Summaries of the two most recent Bengals- Buccaneers meetings at Tampa Bay in 2006 and at Cincinnati in 10 are on page 18 of this news release. Seeking a franchise first: If the Bengals defeat Tampa Bay this week, they will have claimed three road victories in three weeks for the first time in franchise history. Cincinnati has won as many as five straight road games spanning two seasons ( ), and the Bengals have five times won four straight on the road within a season, but never have the Bengals won three road games in consecutive weeks. This week s opportunity has been set up by wins of at New Orleans on Nov. 16 and at Houston last week. Three-game road trips have been infrequent, but not unprecedented, in franchise history. This year s three-gamer is the ninth in the club s 47 seasons, including one trip of four straight and one trip of five. Cincinnati s only winning record over three or more on the road came in 2003, Marvin Lewis first season as head coach. The Bengals went 2-1 over Games 11-13, winning at San Diego and Pittsburgh before losing at Baltimore. Beyond that, Cincinnati s best record on an extended road swing has been 2-3, during a five-game stretch in (The Bengals had to play five straight due to a stadium conflict caused by the baseball Reds postseason run.) Otherwise, on trips of more than two games, the Bengals have gone 1-2 on four occasions, 0-3 once and 0-4 once. Dalton rules against NFC: Bengals QB Andy Dalton this week makes his first playing appearance against Tampa Bay, but he has mostly had his way against the Bucs NFC brethren. The Bengals Nov. 16 win at New Orleans improved record as the starter against NFC teams to , including on the road. That s a winning percentage of.767. His three losses have come by a total of 12 points, and his 11 wins have come by an average margin of 13.5.

Jim Breech was the kicker who set the PAT mark. An individual TD pass mark does not stand from the game, as the six TDs included five by Boomer Esiason and one by Erik Wilhelm. Carson Palmer set the club individual mark with six of his own at Cleveland in The 56 points scored by Cincinnati stands as the most ever against an NFC opponent and the fourth-most in club history. He has led the team to the postseason in four of the last five years, including three straight. The Bengals are one of only five NFL teams to be in the playoffs every year since 2011, and they are one of only six clubs to qualify as many as four times in the last five years. In total, Lewis has coached five Bengals playoff teams, also a franchise record. Paul Brown is second in the category, with three. Lewis has 97 career victories, most in Bengals history by a margin of 33 over Sam Wyche (64). Lewis record is in the regular season and including postseason. The Bengals went 11-5 in the regular season in 2013, winning the AFC North Division championship by three games over both Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Cincinnati lost in the first round of the playoffs, however, falling to San Diego at Paul Brown Stadium. THE HEAD COACHES 2 at the University of Cincinnati... The Texans were held to two field goals while the outcome was still in doubt, and as time expired with Cincinnati leading by nine, the Bengals stopped a drive that had reached a first down at the Cincinnati 10. The most crucial stand came late in the third quarter. Houston had a first down at the eight, looking for a TD and a lead. But S George Iloka, DT Devon Still and CB Terence Newman made plays on successive downs to force a field goal attempt, and the Bengals exited the situation with a lead. The Bengals have risen this week to eighth in the NFL in defensive red-zone TD percentage (48.8). One cautionary note, however, is that Cincinnati has allowed opponents a total of 41 red-zone possessions, which is tied for fourthmost in the NFL. Tampa Bay has struggled offensively in overall red-zone play. Only four teams have fewer offensive possessions (28), and the Bucs are last in the NFL in red-zone scoring percentage (TDs plus FGs), at 71.4 percent. Eight of the Bucs 28 chances have ended without points. In a 2009 title season in which the Bengals swept all six division games, Lewis was the consensus choice as NFL Coach of the Year. Lewis also led Cincinnati to an AFC North title in Lewis ranks second in the NFL in longest current tenure with one team, trailing only Bill Belichick, who is in his 15th straight season with New England. In the category of most seasons as an NFL head coach with one or more teams, Lewis in 2014 ranks sixth among active coaches, behind Belichick (20th season in 2014), Jeff Fisher (20), Tom Coughlin (19), the Chiefs Andy Reid (16) and John Fox (13). Lewis was named the ninth head coach in Bengals history on Jan. 14, In 02, he directed the NFL s fifth-ranked defense with Washington, serving as assistant head coach in addition to his role as defensive coordinator. Prior to his year with the Redskins, he was a record-setting defensive coordinator for the

3 (The head coaches, continued) Baltimore Ravens. His six seasons with the Ravens ( ) included a Super Bowl victory following the 00 season. In the 00 season, Lewis Baltimore defense set the NFL record for fewest points allowed in a 16-game campaign (165), and the 00 Ravens are always included in discussions of the best singleseason NFL defenses of all time. Lewis entered the NFL as linebackers coach with Pittsburgh from , guiding the careers of Pro Bowl selections Kevin Greene, Chad Brown, Levon Kirkland and Greg Lloyd. Born Sept. 23, 1958, in McDonald, Pa., near Pittsburgh, Lewis played linebacker at Idaho State and earned All-Big Sky Conference honors in each of his three seasons ( 78-80). He began his coaching career as an assistant at Idaho State University in Lovie Smith is in his first season as Tampa Bay head coach and his 10th campaign as an NFL head coach. He spent nine seasons ( ) as head coach of the Chicago Bears, compiling an record, including 3-3 in postseason. His career record is now Smith led the Bears to three division titles, two NFC Championship Game It s no misprint: Fans should take an extra look at the AFC North standings this week. The NFL has never seen anything like it and may not see it again for a long time. All four teams in the North are at least three games over.500. Dating back to 1933, the first year of NFL division play, never at any point before this week had all teams in a division been three over. In many seasons all divisions have been larger than the four-team membership of the North, making the possibility more remote. But there certainly have been many years of four-team divisions, including of course the unchanged format since the league s 2002 realignment. Since 2002, there has never been a week with all four teams in a division even two games over.500. The last time that happened was in In the NFL Western Division, the final standings showed Detroit at 7-3-2, Green Bay at , the Chicago Bears at and the Chicago Cardinals at The 1935 season also stands as the only one in which all teams in a division have had winning records. That seems quite possible now for the AFC North. If every team can manage at least a 2-3 mark over its final five games, it will happen. AFC North is uniquely competitive: For the fourth time in the last five weeks, the AFC North Division standings show the four teams all within a half-game of each other. The four instances stand as the only four in the 45 years since the 1970 merger for all teams in a division to be within a halfgame this late in a season and all have winning records. The Bengals (7-3-1) are a half-game ahead of the other three teams, which are all at 7-4. Despite the race s unprecedented tightness, the Bengals don t figure to be involved in any season-ending tiebreakers, including the oft-watched factor of record in division games. Unless another team plays a tie game, or unless the Bengals play a second tie, the Bengals cannot finish tied with any of their foes in season-ending win percentage, the ultimate determinant of the championship. Pittsburgh had a bye last week, and the other three AFC North teams all won road games outside the division. The Bengals won at Houston, Cleveland won at Atlanta and Baltimore prevailed at New Orleans. Thus the AFC North bolstered its NFL best aggregate winning percentage in non-division games. The AFC North is at.732 with a mark. The next-best division is the NFC West, more than 100 percentage points behind at.656 (21-11). Besides the AFC North and NFC West, other divisions with aggregate winning records against non-division foes are the NFC North (17-13), the AFC East (16-14) and the AFC West (16-14). The NFC East is even at The two South divisions are far in the rear, the AFC South at 9-23 and the NFC South at The AFC North s.732 winning percentage against non-division foes is better than any season-ending divisional record since the 2002 realignment. The 2013 NFC West and the 07 AFC South have posted the best full-season winning percentages outside the division, at.692 with records of Here s the AFC North picture entering Week 13: TEAM W-L-T PCT. His team played in Super Bowl XLI in Miami (2006 season), where it lost to Indianapolis. He was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2005 by the Associated Press, after his team finished at 11-5 despite a 1-3 start. Smith was not in the NFL in He came to Chicago from St. Louis, where he engineered a dramatic turnaround as the defensive coordinator from In Smith s first season, he helped the Rams to Super Bowl XXXVI, where they lost to New England. He entered the NFL in 1996 with Tampa Bay, coaching linebackers for the Bucs from A native of Gladewater, Texas, Smith played LB and SS at Tulsa. He began his coaching career at his hometown high school in 1980, and coached in college at Tulsa ( ), Wisconsin (1987), Arizona State ( ), Kentucky (1992), Tennessee ( ) and Ohio State (1995). Lewis vs. Bucs: Bucs lead, 2-0. Lewis vs. Smith: Lewis leads, 2-1, all from Bengals-Chicago games. Smith vs. Bengals: Same as Lewis vs. Smith. Together again: Last week at Houston, the Bengals had HBs Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill both in the lineup for the first time in four games. Bernard had missed three straight with hip and clavicle injuries suffered Nov. 2 vs. Jacksonville. And the results were predictably rewarding. The duo combined for 163 yards from scrimmage, Hill rushing 18-for-87 with a nine-yard reception and Bernard rushing 17-for-45 while catching two-for-22. Hill rushed two yards for a team-leading sixth touchdown, moving one ahead of Bernard and WR Mohamed Sanu. It is just so great to have both Gio and Jeremy in there, said WR A.J. Green. They are a pair that our opponents are going to have to deal with, hopefully for a long time. Bernard and Hill are both second-round Cincinnati draft choices, Bernard taken out of North Carolina in 2013 and Hill out of Louisiana State last season. But the similarity, much to the advantage of Bengals offensive game-planners, essentially ends there. Bernard is short (5-9) but plenty strong at 208 pounds, and he s exceptionally quick and shifty. He has shown the ability to create highlight-reel plays in the open field. Hill (6-1, 235) is the heaviest back on whom the Bengals have spent a high draft choice since 248-pound FB Pete Johnson in 1977, but in addition to raw power, Hill has exceptional speed for his size. Hill had rushes of 62 and 60 yards in the two games preceding last week s win at Houston, and he had a key 30-yarder in the fourth quarter against the Texans as the Bengals drove to a field goal that essentially put the win on ice. Both backs are also smooth receivers, comfortable with taking footballs on the fly. Hill leads the team for the season in yards from scrimmage (811), ahead of WR Mohamed Sanu (760). Bernard is third at 692 despite his three missed games. Hill leads the team in rushing yards (643), and Bernard is second at 491. Hill has 168 receiving yards on 17 catches, and Bernard is 24-for-201 as a receiver. Bernard and Hill have combined for 1494 yards from scrimmage, an average of per contest. Hill has averaged 72.9 scrimmage yards over his 11 games played, but he had several games of limited opportunities earlier in the season as he broke in slowly in rookie mode. In the last four games, Hill has averaged scrimmage yards. Bernard has averaged 86.5 scrimmage yards in his eight games played. The duo s biggest day this season has been Sept. 14 vs. Atlanta, when Bernard had 169 yards and Hill had 96. Their 265 combined scrimmage yards was the most by two Bengals backs in one game since Dec. 3, 2000, when Corey Dillon (216) and Brandon Bennett (70) combined for 286. The Bernard-Hill total was more than the scrimmage yards total of any combo of Bengals backs since Dec. 22, 2002, when Dillon (142), Nick Luchey (65) and Bennett (64) combined for 271. Obviously Jeremy s bigger than me, says Bernard, but I m faster than him. I ll take that. But he s a great back. We re not fighting for whatever. We want to help the team win. We both have that mindset, and that s good to have. It s not about one guy getting more carries than the other. It s about helping the team win. More on Jeremy Hill: When Bengals rookie HB Jeremy Hill rushed for 154 yards on Nov. 2 vs. 1-7 Jacksonville, it could have been seen as a flash in the pan. But with another 150-yard game just two weeks later 27-for-152 on

4 (More on Jeremy Hill, continued) Nov. 16 at New Orleans Hill cemented his status as a bright light for the Bengals future. Last week, splitting time with Giovani Bernard, after Bernard s return from three games missed due to injuries, Hill led the team with 87 rushing yards. Hill is averaging 4.9 yards per rush for the season. He is the only Bengals rookie besides Paul Robinson in 1968 to post two 150-yard rushing games. Robinson was the American Football League Rookie of the Year in 68. The 235-pound Hill can slam defensive fronts like a sledgehammer, but his special qualities are the cutting ability and speed that go along with his size and strength. He broke for a 62-yard rushing gain at New Orleans, and he had a 60- yarder for a crucial touchdown vs. Jacksonville. In the Jacksonville game, the Jaguars had stunned a Paul Brown Stadium crowd with two quick touchdowns, closing a deficit to But on Cincinnati s first scrimmage play after the second Jacksonville score, Hill brightened moods considerably with a 60-yard TD run. It s not as if those long gainers come as a big surprise, since Hill had six rushes of 50 or more yards in 2013, in college at LSU. Hill also set an LSU career record for yards per rush (6.25). But Hill could now have folks wondering how he lasted into the late second round of the 2014 draft. He was selected by Cincinnati at No. 55 overall. Jeremy is a rare back, big and athletic, said OT Andrew Whitworth. He s just hard for anybody to tackle. He s a tough runner, concurred head coach Marvin Lewis. With the power and all the other skills he has, including his receiving ability, he s a very complete player. He particularly showed us a lot when Gio (Bernard) was out. He came come up big when we really needed him to. Hill made his 62-yard run against the Saints with time running out in the second quarter and the Bengals seeming ready to take a 10-3 lead into halftime. But Hill broke free for a gain from the Bengals 14 to the New Orleans 24. He perhaps should have run out of bounds a bit before the 24, but he instinctively broke back inside for extra yardage and was tackled in bounds with approximately :03 left on the clock. The Bengals were granted a time out with :01 remaining. Mike Nugent came on to make a 42-yard FG for a 13-3 halftime edge. Hill missed some time in the second quarter of the Jacksonville game after sustaining a knee bruise, but he returned to complete his load of 24 carries. I see myself as a tough guy who can hang in there, take the punishment and take care of the ball, Hill said. I didn t like the way (the knee) felt when it first happened, but coming out was precautionary. I wanted to play through it. More on Giovani Bernard: Though the Bengals have gotten great production of late from rookie HB Jeremy Hill, Hill s performance has made fans ever more eager to see HB Giovani Bernard back from injuries and running in tandem with Hill. That desire was fulfilled last week, as Bernard came back from three weeks out with hip and clavicle injuries to reclaim his spot in the lineup. Bernard had 67 yards from scrimmage, 45 rushing and 22 receiving, and the team will look for much more for him as the season plays out. He has averaged 86.5 scrimmage yards in the eight games he has played, and last year as a rookie he had 1209 scrimmage yards, second on the team. On Oct. 12 of this season vs. Carolina, Bernard had an 89-yard TD run, the second-longest rush in Bengals history, behind only a 96-yarder for a TD by HB Corey Dillon at Detroit in It is also the second-longest rush in the NFL this season. He went on against Carolina to log his first career 100-yard rushing game (18-for-137), and he added 20 yards on four receptions to finish with 157 scrimmage yards for the day. That was only his second-highest scrimmage total of the season, as he had 169 (90 rushing, 79 receiving) on Sept. 14 vs. Atlanta. 100 yards good, 25 carries better: The Bengals are 36-2 under head coach Marvin Lewis when a rusher records 25 or more carries. That is a.947 winning percentage. HB Jeremy Hill fueled win No. 36 in this category on Nov. 16 at New Orleans, when he rushed 27-for-152 in a win. Hill became the fifth rusher under Lewis to reach 25 carries in a game. But Hill did it with HB Giovani Bernard out with an injury, and the Bengals normal mode since last season has been to split carries between a HB tandem. Bernard and BenJarvus Green-Ellis shared the regular load in 2013, and in 2014, before being sidelined with hip and clavicle injuries, Bernard and Hill were both seeing regular action. Bernard, of course, returned to action last week at Houston. Hill s 27 carries at New Orleans, then, marked the Bengals only one with a 25-carry man in a span of 29 games, including last week. The most recent previous one had been in Game 14 of 2012, when Green-Ellis had 25 carries at 4 Philadelphia. Games under Lewis with a 25-carry rusher have been less frequent and slightly more successful than games with a 100-yard rusher. In the Lewis era (2003-present), the Bengals are with a 100-yard rusher (.837 winning percentage). That includes a mark this season. In addition to Hill s 152- yard game at New Orleans, the Bengals have seen Hill rush 24-for-154 in a Nov. 2 win vs. Jacksonville and Bernard rush 18-for-137 in an Oct. 12 tie with Carolina. By player, the Bengals won-lost totals under Lewis with a 25-carry rusher have been 18-1 with Rudi Johnson, 11-1 with Cedric Benson, 4-0 with Green- Ellis, 2-0 with Kenny Watson and 1-0 with Hill. By player, Lewis totals with a 100-yard rusher have been 15-4 with Rudi Johnson, 2-0 with Kenny Watson, 13-2 with Cedric Benson, 1-0 with Corey Dillon, 0-1 with Bernard Scott, 1-0 with Larry Johnson, 4-0 with Green-Ellis, 2-0 with Hill and 1-0 with Bernard. The old A.J. is back: Bengals WR A.J. Green returned to action four games ago, after missing Games 5-7 with a toe injury. But he played only a bit more than half the offensive snaps on Nov. 2 vs. Jacksonville, and on Nov. 6 vs. Cleveland... well, the entire offense just had a very unproductive game. But in the last two games, Green has served notice that the receiving threat defenses learned to fear over is back at full production. Green caught six-for-127 with a TD on Nov. 16 at New Orleans, and last week at Houston, as the Texans laid back on him in trying to prevent the big play, he took shorter passes and logged a career-high 12 catches, for 121 yards. It s all very impressive, but really it s what we expect from A.J., said QB Andy Dalton. He s so talented, he can match up against anybody at any time and give them trouble. As a quarterback, you have confidence that even if A.J. is not wide open, you can throw the ball up there, give him a chance, and he s going to come down with it for you. You can t overestimate what that means. Green had three catches, including two that converted third downs, on the Bengals 94-yard TD drive for a 7-0 lead in the Houston game. He converted another third down on Cincinnati s short third-quarter drive for a 16-3 lead, taking the ball to the Houston five on a third-and-four play from the 16. Green had 10 catches by early in the third quarter, making it look as if he would end the day having broken Carl Pickens 1998 Bengals record of 13 in a game. But Green wound up settling for 12 as the offense rushed the ball 43 times. The previous week at New Orleans, Green s six-for-127 day included a 24- yard TD in the fourth quarter on which he did some very fancy footwork to stay in bounds while remaining focused on the catch. Green is a low-key personality, not really one to exult after a great game or rant after a lesser one, but he clearly was a much happier man after the New Orleans game than he had been while battling the turf toe injury for much of the early season. The turf toe first cropped up in Game 2, costing him almost all of that Sept. 14 game vs. Atlanta, and though he played in Games 3-4 and 8-9, he wasn t fully shed of the condition until the New Orleans contest. I just feel like myself, Green said. However you want to say it, I just wasn t back in the good rhythm. But New Orleans was the first full week of practice I had for I don t know how long. I took every rep and I just came into that game feeling good. Now, with this (Houston) game, it seems like things are back where they ought to be. The fourth-year pro, the fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft, Green showed his ability to dominate at a crucial point in the New Orleans game. With 14:56 still to play in the fourth quarter, the Saints had just scored a TD to pull within 20-10, and Green helped put the offense in a first-and-20 hole from its 10-yard line due to an offensive pass interference violation. But Green came back to gain 80 of the 90 yards that the Bengals drove for a TD and the final margin of 27-10: On third-and-18 from the Cincinnati 12, Green got a step on his coverage down the middle and turned an Andy Dalton pass into a 38-yard gain. On third-and-two from the New Orleans 42, Green again gave the offense new life, with an 18-yard catch. And on the next play, Dalton and Green connected to score from 24 yards out, Green doing the aforementioned footwork to make a valid catch in the end zone. The TD call was upheld by replay review, sending much of the home crowd heading for the exits. Green started this season in good form, averaging receiving yards over his first three full games and helping the team to a 3-0 start. He caught sixfor-131 with a TD on Sept. 7 at Baltimore, six-for-102 vs. Tennessee and five-for- 81 with a TD at New England. Green entered this season with three Pro Bowl berths on his three-year resume. His 260 receptions over are the most in NFL history for a player in his first three seasons, and his 3833 receiving yards in that span are second-most for a player in his first three seasons. His total numbers for 2014

5 (The old A.J. is back, continued) won t match past seasons, due to his missed time, but there is every reason to believe he can be better than ever as the Bengals drive for a fourth straight playoff berth. I appreciate the ability I have with my hands, Sanu said. God blessed me with them, and I also get em from my Mom. For the season ahead, Sanu says simply: You have to stay as even as you can, and when your number is called, you have to make plays. A.J. s 100-yarders: WR A.J. Green s 121-yard game at Houston last week was his fourth of the season and the 19th of his four-year Bengals career. Green now is tied with Carl Pickens (played eight seasons) for third place on the Bengals in 100-yard receiving games, and his next 100-yarder will tie him with Isaac Curtis (played 12 seasons) for second place in the category at 20. The franchise leader, at this point still by a wide margin, is Chad Johnson at 31. But Johnson played 10 seasons, more than twice as many as Green to date. Last season, Green became the first Bengal to log six 100-yard games in a season, and he became the first Bengal to get 100 in five consecutive games. Green has played 55 career games, and with 19 of 100 or more, he has hit triple figures once in every 2.89 games. A.J. helps the HBs: Bengals WR A.J. Green is not a big rusher he s two-for-two this year and 11-for-93 for his career but head coach Marvin Lewis says Green s mere presence also helps the ground game. Just him being out there, it affects what a defense can do, Lewis says. The threat is there, and they have to account for it. They can t load up on you in other spots putting eight in the box and things like that that they might be able to do otherwise. Sanu still on course for 1000: Though his opportunities are not as frequent with flagship WR A.J. Green now fully back from a toe injury, WR Mohamed Sanu is still on course for a 1000-yard season. He has a still-teamleading 719 yards on 49 catches (also team-leading), he s on pace for 71 catches and 1046 yards over 16 games. Sanu also leads the team in receiving TDs (five). He s tied with HB Giovani Bernard for second on the team in total TDs, one behind HB Jeremy Hill. Sanu was targeted seven times in last week s win at Houston less than half of Green s 16 and he had excellent production with five catches for 48 yards and a TD. Sanu had little forward momentum going when he caught an Andy Dalton pass in the flat at the Houston five late in the first quarter. But the strong 210- pounder turned quickly toward the goal and easily bulled his way past 191-pound CB A.J. Bouye for the score and a 7-0 Bengals lead. And early in the fourth quarter, when the Bengals looking to pad a lead of just three (16-13), Sanu s 10- yard catch on third-and-nine from the Texans 33 kept alive a drive that ended with a field goal. For the season, Sanu has 760 yards from scrimmage (including 41 rushing yards), second on the team behind HB Jeremy Hill (811). Sanu also has a two-point conversion catch, which doesn t count toward his statistics. He beat tight coverage in the season opener at Baltimore and claimed a contested ball for the two-pointer. And though it doesn t show up on his personal yards gained, Sanu has completed two passes this season for 68 yards a perfectly thrown 50-yarder and an 18-yarder for a TD. Bottom line, the third-year pro from Rutgers has been a crucial contributor as the offense has weathered injury limitations to Green and a full season missed by injury to talented WR Marvin Jones. Mo not only has good numbers, he s made really good catches, said QB Andy Dalton. Important catches, third-down catches. He has such strong hands that if anything is contested, he ll come down with it. It s nice having a guy like that. Said Green: Mo has been playing outrageous, which is only going to help me. Sanu led the team in receiving yards for each of the four weeks covering Games 5-8, averaging 98.5 yards over the span. He had a career-best 125 yards (on five catches) on Oct. 26 vs. Baltimore, just two weeks after catching a career-high 10 for a then-career-high 120 yards vs. Carolina. In the Bengals win Nov. 2 vs. Jacksonville, Sanu beat tight coverage to control a 19-yard TD pass, putting the Bengals ahead to stay at 7-3 early in the second quarter. But his best catch of the day came on the next possession, when he fielded a ball coming in at a tough angle for a 33-yard gain to convert a third-down-and-nine situation. The play led to a field goal. In key division action on Oct. 26 vs. Baltimore, Sanu s 53-yard catch on a third-and-10 play was the biggest gain of the game-winning TD drive. And that wasn t his best catch of the day. That one came in the first quarter, when he made a one-handed snag that almost defies description, turning an overthrown ball into a 48-yard gain for the key play of a TD drive. 5 Still Mr. Perfect: Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu threw one pass as a rookie in The perfectly thrown ball went 50 yards in the air and produced a 73-yard TD to WR A.J. Green at Washington. The play left Sanu with a perfect score on the NFL s passer rating computer Last season, Sanu s only pass produced a 25-yard gain to HB Giovani Bernard vs. Cleveland. That was good enough to keep his career rating at the magic 158.3, and when then-offensive coordinator Jay Gruden was asked after the game about Sanu possibly throwing more passes, Gruden joked that Sanu might not want to risk messing up his perfect score. But that s not Sanu s call, of course, and coordinator Hue Jackson has called for two Sanu passes this season. On Sept. 14 vs. Atlanta, Sanu did what he had to do. He threw a ball more than 50 yards in the air to WR Brandon Tate, precisely placed beyond coverage for a 50-yard gain, and his career rating stayed right there at And on Sept. 21 vs. Tennessee, Sanu completed an 18-yard TD pass to QB Andy Dalton. He got some help on the play, as Dalton made a nice catch and a nice run to the end zone, but the ratings computer didn t care. It left Sanu yet again with the magic as his career rating. Beyond the yards gained and points scored, Sanu s passes have impressed onlookers with their arc, perfect spirals and accuracy. It is no exaggeration to say he literally can throw it like a top quarterback. When Dalton was asked in his Atlanta post-game news conference if he has ever advised Sanu on throwing mechanics or release point, Dalton said: Absolutely not. He doesn t even warm up. You just get him the ball and let him throw. On both of Sanu s completions this season, Dalton took the center snap and pitched laterals to Sanu, who appeared to be running a reverse until he stopped and threw the aerial. On Sanu s 73-yarder to Green as a rookie, he took a direct center snap in a shotgun formation. The NFL s only one: Bengals WR Mohamed Sanu is the only player in NFL history with two or more TD passes, 150 or more passing yards and zero incompletions. His career passing totals are now four-for-four for 166 yards, with two TDs and no INTs. He is the only Bengals WR ever to throw a TD pass. Pass protection moves up a notch: The Bengals allowed no sacks at Houston and this week rank tied for second in the NFL in fewest allowed for the season (13). Cincinnati is just one behind Denver (12) and tied with Oakland. Cincinnati ranks second in the NFL in fewest sack yardage allowed (77), trailing only Oakland (72). The Bengals have allowed only one sack for one yard over the last two games, and they are now on pace to allow 19 sacks on the season (actual projection of 18.9). A total of 19 allowed would be the second-fewest in franchise history, trailing only the record 17 set in Should the Bengals lead the NFL in fewest sacks allowed for the season, it would mark the first time in franchise history. The highest Bengals finish for a full season has been second, in 2007 and in 2005 (21 sacks allowed). The offensive line has adjusted well despite some injuries. Last week at Houston, ROT Andre Smith was sidelined in the first quarter with an arm injury, and he was replaced by Marshall Newhouse. The line also weathered the loss of starting RG Kevin Zeitler to a calf injury for most of Game 2, all of Games 3-5 and 8, and a portion of Game 7. Pollak, a seventh-year pro, took Zeitler s spot. Smith also missed Games 9 and 10, due to an ankle injury, and Newhouse filled in for him in those contests. Rookie Russell Bodine has started all 11 games at C, and ninth-year vet Andrew Whitworth has gone all the way as the starting LOT. Pass defense has its bright spots: The Bengals rank 18th in the NFL in fewest passing yards allowed per game but opponents have been throwing the ball a lot. The Bengals rank second behind Denver in most pass attempts by opponents (439). And in three crucial pass defense areas, Cincinnati ranks near the top of the league: Cincinnati ranks third in lowest aggregate passer rating by opponents. Cincinnati s 11 foes have combined for a 76.2 rating. The only teams doing better are San Francisco (74.1) and Cleveland (75.4). Bengals opponents have

6 (Pass defense has its bright spots, continued) completed 263 passes in 439 attempts (59.9 percent) for 2765 yards (251.4 per game), with 11 TDs and 11 INTs. The Bengals and Arizona are only NFL defenses that have as many interceptions as TD passes allowed. Cincinnati is at and Arizona at No team has more INTs than TD passes allowed. The Bengals rank sixth in the NFL in lowest opponent completion percentage (59.9). The league co-leaders are Philadelphia and San Francisco (57.2). New England tops the AFC at Opponent completion percentage is strongly tied to team success this season. The Bengals and the five teams ahead of them have a combined record of (.689). None of the top six teams has a record worse than 7-4. The Bengals have a low ranking in sacks (tied for 30th with 14), but their 11 INTs rank tied for 11th. And statistics crews have credited the Bengals with 68 total passes defensed, an average of 6.2 per game and a sign of tight coverage. Head coach Marvin Lewis gives much of the credit to a veteran secondary. The Bengals top five secondary players average 7.8 years experience. The depth of our secondary, and their experience and maturity and their knowledge of the game of football is very important to us, Lewis said. It makes a huge difference in the things that you re able to do. Starting corners Terence Newman and Leon Hall have 12 and eight seasons, respectively, and they are playing alongside one another for the third straight year. When we re in the nickel and Leon s on my side, it s kind of weird because we sometimes look at each other and know to pass off a route, Newman said. We just look at each other and nod. I think it s just that we ve played awhile and we watch film together, so there s different routes we see on film and say, Hey let s just pass it off, it s easier. We understand what each other thinks. Dalton likes this homecoming best: The cliché works the third time was the charm for Bengals QB Andy Dalton playing in Houston. A native son and star prep football player in Katy, Texas, on the western edge of Greater Houston, Dalton nabbed his first win in Houston last week, leading Cincinnati s win to stay in first place in the AFC North Division. Dalton and the Bengals had lost playoff games at Houston in his rookie and sophomore NFL seasons ( ). Dalton is definitely not a player prone to letting his emotions show, but he was direct in confirming that the win meant more to him than most. Absolutely it does, he said. The last couple of times I have been in this room (visitors news conference room at NRG Stadium), it hasn t gone in our favor and I didn t play my best. So it s good to get that behind us. Those playoff games are from my first couple years, and we have moved on from that. It s cool to get a win at home, and it s even more special today because today is my dad s birthday. Dalton carried his game-worn jersey into his news conference and said it was for his dad, Greg Dalton, age 55. He took great care after his session to sign the grass-stained white jersey with the date and the final score. I thought I d give him a little present, Dalton said. Dalton had not shared his emotions with teammates prior to the game. I didn t realize how close Katy is to Houston, said WR Mohamed Sanu, but Coach (Hue) Jackson mentioned it to us Saturday night. He said, Your quarterback is from here, and you need to protect him and help him get this win. And we took it to heart. You could tell that it was personal for Andy. Dalton had an 84.6 passer rating in the game, completing 24 of 35 (68.6 percent) for 233 yards, one TD and one INT. He completed 17 of his first 19 passes and had the Bengals firmly in control until he threw a pick-six to CB Johnathan Joseph in the third quarter, cutting Cincinnati s lead from 16-3 to That s my mistake, I should throw that ball away, but we came out of it all right, Dalton said. Dalton led the Bengals on a pair of field goal drives in the fourth quarter to salt away the win. He threw his TD pass in the first quarter to Sanu, whose fiveyard score finished a 94-yard drive, longest TD drive of the year for the Bengals. 6 Dalton the winner up to.636: QB Andy Dalton has not missed a start as a Bengal, and the team s record in his 59 regular-season openings is That s good for a.636 winning percentage, the best career winning percentage of any Bengals QB with more than 10 starts. And with the Bengals in first place in the AFC North, Dalton is still very much alive in a bid to become only the second starting QB in the Super Bowl era to lead a team to the playoffs in his first four seasons. The only one so far has been Baltimore s Joe Flacco. Just two weeks ago, on Nov. 16 at New Orleans, Dalton posted a careerhigh passer rating, completing 16-of-22 (72.8 percent) for 220 yards, with three TDs and no INTs. Dalton s previous career-high rating had been 136.2, set last season in a win over Minnesota. The New Orleans game marked the seventh career time for Dalton to throw three or more TD passes with no INTs. When the Bengals needed him the most, Dalton was exceptional. He completed eight of nine passes for 127 yards on third downs, with seven of those completions converting third downs to first downs and the eighth going for a TD. Andy was dropping it on dimes all day, said WR A.J. Green. The Bengals are (.860) when Dalton has had a passer rating of 90 or above. Dalton signed up through 2020: Two weeks into preseason, the Bengals signed QB Andy Dalton to a contract extension running through the 2020 season. His original contract had run through 14. A second-round Bengals draft choice in 2011, Dalton has led the Bengals to the playoffs in each of his three previous seasons, including an AFC North Division championship in 13. In 13, he set franchise season records for passing yards (4293) and TD passes (33). Andy is being rewarded for his accomplishments with a significant contract, said Katie Blackburn, Bengals executive vice-president, and we are pleased to have a deal that will make him a key part of our team for a number of years. Dalton in 2013 won two AFC Offensive Player of the Week awards and was named AFC Offensive Player of the Month for October. He joined S David Fulcher as the only Bengals to win three AFC weekly or monthly awards in a season. It s stating the obvious that this is a key move for the ongoing success of our team, said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, I congratulate our front office, and Andy and his representatives, for coming together to make this happen in a constructive way for the football team. It s great that the Bengals have shown this confidence in me, Dalton said. This is only a beginning. We have higher goals than just making the playoffs, and it s my job to lead us there. The Bengals and Dalton have received praise for structuring a contract that preserves the team s ability to retain other key players under the salary cap while still rewarding the quarterback handsomely. That s important to Andy, said OT Andrew Whitworth. He understands the game. He understands what makes it go. He won in college at a place (TCU) where not many people won as much as he did. He understands that he needs other guys that help him win. He came in as a rookie and played on a team when it lost its franchise quarterback and was supposed to go Whitworth s reference was to 2011, when the Bengals opened the season with QB Carson Palmer holding out. The team was widely forecast as a lastplace finisher, but Dalton, a second-round draft choice, led a 9-7 playoff season and earned a Pro Bowl berth. A parallel for Dalton? Bengals QB Andy Dalton hasn t yet won a playoff game, but he has led the team to three berths in three seasons, and that s a far better start than most including one Peyton Manning, Denver s Hall-of-Fame lock of a QB. Manning needed his first five seasons ( ) to lead the Indianapolis Colts to three playoff berths, and the Colts were eliminated in the first round all three times ( 99, 00, 02). Manning led his first playoff wins (two) in 2003, his sixth season as a Colt. Dalton s playoff passer rating is not a point of pride at 56.2, but head coach Marvin Lewis points out that Cincinnati s highly rated defenses allowed opposing QBs to post an aggregate 94.9 rating in the three postseason contests. So obviously it s not all on Andy, Lewis says. We all know the way it works, how the pressure falls on the quarterback, but that doesn t mean it s always valid. The pressure is on us as an entire team to improve. Dalton has had no bigger backer than Bengals president Mike Brown. Prior to the Aug. 4 completion of Dalton s new contract, Brown said: I like him on the field; he s steady Eddie, Brown said. He competes. He doesn t do stupid things. He keeps us focused. He makes us a winning team. He s won nine games, then 10, then 11. That s pretty good. Everybody knows we didn t win in the playoffs, and we have to get over that hump. And we are counting on Andy to get us to that point. Dalton has a history of earning statistical comparisons with the biggest names among NFL QBs. For example, he threw more TD passes (80) over his three seasons than anyone except Manning and Drew Brees. But Brown takes the comparison with the best to off-field matters as well. I think he is an exceptional person, Brown said. Nobody has more respect in our building than he. I would tell you that of all the quarterbacks we have had, he is respected by his teammates as much as any of them. Apprised of Brown s remarks, Dalton said:
