BOBCATS PLACE SIXTH AT 2014 DIAMOND HEAD CLASSIC The Bobcats are coming off a sixth-place finish at the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in beautiful Honolulu. Ohio opened the Classic with a loss to George Washington last Monday (Dec. 22) but bounced back with a dominating triumph over DePaul the following day. Ohio took sixth after falling to Nebraska, 71-58, in its Classic finale. All three contests were nationally televised on ESPNU and ESPN3/Watch ESPN. Ohio set a Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic record with 99 points against DePaul -- the most since Indiana State edged Ole Miss, 87-85, in overtime in The Bobcats shot 59.4 percent (38-of-64) against the Blue Demons -- including 63.3 percent (19-of-30) in the second. Redshirt senior guard Javarez Willis (Homer, La.) averaged a team-best 18.3 points per game at the Classic, shooting at a.439 (18-of-41) clip -- including.448 (13-of-29) from beyond the arc. He also averaged a team-best 4.0 assists per game to go along with 4.0 rebounds per game. Willis scored a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers and matched his career high by dishing out a game-high six assists against DePaul. He also grabbed two rebounds and collected a steal. Willis went 11-of-18 from the field -- including 7-of-14 from three-point land. He matched the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic record with seven three-point field goals made, sharing distinction with Marshall Henderson of Ole Miss, who achieved the feat in Willis became the first Bobcat to make seven threes in a game since D.J. Cooper did so on March 1, 2011, in an thumping of Akron. Willis followed that effort up by finishing in double figures for a second straight game with 15 points against Nebraska (12/25). He knocked down a game-high three treys, dished out a game-high four assists and hauled in a career-high eight rebounds to lead the team. Freshman guard Ryan Taylor (Gary, Ind.) started all three games at the Classic, ranking second on the squad with 12.3 points per game and shooting a team-best.609 (14-of-23) from the field. Nebraska s trademark defense kept Ohio s offense in check, limiting the Bobcats to 37.7 percent shooting and scoring 15 points off of 15 Ohio turnovers. Willis knocked down a game-high three treys, dished out a game-high four assists and hauled in a team-high eight rebounds. Senior forward Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal) totaled 12 points and collected two steals and a rebound. Last Thursday s game marked the first time ever Ohio played a contest on Christmas Day. The Seahawks enter Tuesday s matchup with the Bobcats on a two-game losing skid after falling at Minnesota, , last Saturday (Dec. 27). Senior guard Freddie Jackson paced UNCW with 21 points. Senior guard Addison Spruill and redshirt junior guard Craig Ponder collected 12 points each and freshman guard Malik Pugh finished with 10 points off the bench. Jackson (16.5), Ponder (11.7) and Spruill are all averaging double figures for UNC Wilmington, which boasts the 58th-best scoring offense in the country in with 74.5 points per game. The Seahawks are the 35th-best shooting team in the nation, converting at a.483 clip -- including.400 from three-point range, which is good for 24th in the land. SERIES HISTORY Ohio and UNC Wilmington are meeting for the sixth time and second in three seasons. Ohio came away with an victory on Nov. 16, 2012, in the last meeting. This is heading in the right direction. - First-year head coach Saul Phillips on Ohio s sixth-place finish at the 2014 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic NEWS & NOTES Taylor tallied a team-high 13 points in the first half against George Washington. He finished in double digits for a second straight game with 17 points by way of 6-of-8 shooting against DePaul (12/23). He also tallied three rebounds and a block. Senior forward Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal) ranked third on the team at the Classic with 11.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds. He recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against DePaul (12/23). Ndour matched his career high with four assists, set a new season high with three steals and posted a block. He followed it up by totaling 12 points and collected two steals and a rebound against Nebraska (12/25). Sophomore forward Antonio Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio) started all three games of the Classic, averaging 8.0 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game. He tallied a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds against DePaul. Redshirt junior forward Treg Setty (Maysville, Ky.) averaged 8.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over three contests at the Classic. He enjoyed his most productive offensive outing as a Bobcat against DePaul, scoring a season-high 17 points off of 7-of-9 shooting.

He also handed out a seasonhigh three assists and collected a season-high two steals. PLANET NDOUR Ndour has gotten his senior campaign off to a strong start. The 2014 Preseason All-Mid-American Conference East Division selection is the only player on the team to start all 10 games this season, ranking second on the squad with 14.3 points and leading the team with 8.1 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, 11.6 field goal attempts, 5.2 free throw attempts, 4.1 free throws made and 32.8 minutes played. He also ranks second on the team with 2.1 assists, 4.9 field goals made and a.788 free throw percentage. Ndour has recorded a team-high eight double-figure scoring outings -- including two 20-point efforts. He has tallied a team-high four double-doubles and a team-high five double-digit rebounding efforts. Ndour has led the team in scoring a team-high four times and in rebounds a team-high six times. Ndour started 31 of 36 games in , earning Second Team All-MAC and Second Team NABC All-District 14 honors. He ranked 11th in the MAC in scoring (13.8 points per game), seventh in rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game), ninth in field goal percentage (.511) and sixth in blocks (1.5 per game). Ndour led Ohio with four double-doubles and six doublefigure rebounding games. He paced the Bobcats in scoring in 16-of-36 games and rebounding in 20 games, notching at least 10 points in 25 games and posting 20-plus points in nine contests. Ndour competed for his home country of Senegal in the 2014 FIBA World Cup. In six FIBA World Cup Games, he averaged 5.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 21.3 minutes per game. THE POINT MAN Willis has started all nine games he s played in, leading the team with 16.2 points, 5.6 field goals made, 8.1 three-point field goals attempted, 3.3 three-point field goals made, a.411 three-point percentage, a.941 free throw percentage, 3.2 assists per game and is tied for the team lead with 1.1 steals per game. He ranks second on the squad with 12.6 field goal attempts, 1.8 free throws made and 33.0 minutes played. Willis has tallied seven double-figure scoring games -- including two 20-plus point efforts -- and has led the team in scoring five times and assists a team-high seven times. Willis saw action in all 37 games in , starting 12. He averaged 6.9 points, 2.6 assists and shot 38 percent from threepoint territory. Willis had an exceptional postseason for Ohio, averaging 12.8 points and 3.3 assists while shooting a teambest 48.4 percent (15-31) from three-point land during the MAC Tournament and CIT. Ohio posted a 9-2 record when Willis scored 10-plus points in TONY THE TIGER Campbell has provided the Bobcats with a spark through 10 games in He has started five games, averaging 9.8 points per game and ranking second on the squad with 7.8 rebounds. Ranks third on the team with 82. field goal attempts, 4.2 field goals made, 3.6 three-point field goal attempts and 0.8 threepoint field goals made. Campbell has recorded five double-figure scoring efforts to rank third on the team, three double-doubles to rank second on the team, three double-figure rebounding games to rank second on the team and has led the team in rebounds four times to rank second on the team. Campbell saw action in 34 of 37 games and started nine contests in He posted 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds. Campbell averaged 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game while shooting 56.6 percent from the floor over the Bobcats final eight contests. He grabbed at least four rebounds in 11 games. SAUL BALL BEGINS WITH WIN The Bobcats defeated Appalachian State, 73-47, on Nov. 15 in the season opener at the Convocation Center. The win marked the first under first-year head coach Saul Phillips. NOT BAD, ROOK Freshman guard Ryan Taylor (Gary, Ind.) totaled a game-high 21 points and distributed a game-high four assists in his collegiate debut to help lead Ohio to victory over the Mountaineers. Taylor, who started his first game for the Bobcats, shot 9-of-13 from the field -- including 3-of-5 from three-point land. His outing marked the first time a Bobcat scored at least 20 points in his first career game since Ivo Baltic put up 20 against Ohio Valley in Taylor garnered College Sports Madness Mid-American Conference Player of the Week recognition for his efforts. Taylor achieved double figures for the second time in his first four collegiate games, scoring 16 points off of 7-of-10 shooting in addition to hauling in five rebounds and distributing two assists against Belmont. Taylor reached double digits in points once again against St. Bonaventure, posting 11 to go along with five rebounds and a career-high three blocked shots to lead the Cats. Taylor has started eight of the nine games he s played, ranking third on the squad with 10.8 points per game over 30.8 minutes per game (third on the team). He leads the team with a.535 field goal percentage (38-of-71). Taylor ranks second on the team with a.321 three-point percentage (9-of-28) and 1.0 three-point field goals made. He ranks third on the squad with 3.1 three-point field goal attempts, 1.3 free throws made and a free throw percentage of.750. Taylor also boasts 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists. Taylor completed a prep year at St. John s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. The Michigan City, Ind., native averaged 23 points, six rebounds and three assists per game for the Lancers in As a senior at Michigan City High School, Taylor averaged 14 points, three rebounds, two assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game and was selected to participate in Indiana s Northwest All-Star Classic for his efforts. He played his AAU ball for SYF Players in Gary, Ind. THE STEVIE SHOW Senior guard Stevie Taylor (Gahanna, Ohio) added a season-high 17 points and dished out a season-high five assists in addition to grabbing a career-high six rebounds to lead the Cats against Belmont. He reached double figures for the first time this season. Taylor reached double figures for the second time in three games and 17th in his career, scoring 10 points against Alcorn State. Taylor posted double figures for the third time in four games, tallying 10 points to go along with a game-high three steals as well as four rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes off of the bench at Evansville. Taylor, who is the lone holdover from Ohio s 2012 NCAA Sweet Sixteen team, saw action in 36 of 37 games in , starting 24. He averaged 7.2 points and ranked second on the team with 2.4 assists per game. Taylor also ranked third on the team with 37 steals. He led Ohio in assists in 12 contests and notched 10-plus points in eight contests. #SAULBALL The Bobcats enter a new era in under Phillips, who led North Dakota State to 26 wins and a berth in the NCAA Championship last season. NDSU s run was highlighted by the No. 12-seeded Bison knocking off No. 5-seeded Oklahoma in the Second Round. Phillips spent seven seasons as the head men s basketball coach at North Dakota State. He was hired as the 22nd coach in program history on March 26, Phillips directed North Dakota State to its first Summit League championship and NCAA Championship appearance in He was one of 10 finalists for the Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year award. During his seven seasons at NDSU, Phillips posted a record through his seven seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a mark in The Summit League. A native of Reedsburg, Wis., Phillips graduated from Wisconsin- Platteville with a degree in business and psychology in He played basketball for four seasons at UWP under current Wisconsin head coach Bo Ryan and was captain of the Pioneers undefeated national championship team in championship team in 1995.

4 LIFTING THE LID The Bobcats are now (.676) all-time in season openers and have won their last 11, all of which have been played inside the Convocation Center. PROTECT THIS HOUSE Ohio has registered an impressive (.763) all-time record at the Convocation Center, which opened in The Bobcats have led the Mid-American Conference in attendance in seven of the past eight seasons. A LOOK BACK AT Ohio is coming off a campaign in in which it reached the 20-win plateau for the third-straight season, tied for the second-most wins in program history and posted two victories in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament in the program s fifthconsecutive postseason appearance. Over the past three seasons, the Bobcats have set a program record with 78 combined victories (25 in ; 24 in ; 29 in ). The team also has posted at least 22 wins in three-straight seasons for the first time in program history. GETTING THE BAND BACK TOGETHER Continuity proved to be key is the assembly of Phillips Ohio coaching staff. Assistant coaches Will Ryan and Jason Kemp and director of basketball operations Jared Swanson all served under Phillips at North Dakota State. Two familiar faces to Bobcat fans will be on the sideline for Ohio in Aaron Fuss begins his third season as an assistant coach at Ohio while former two-year team captain David McKinley enters his first season as a graduate assistant. Dartis has helped carry on a strong tradition of winning at Newark High School under head coach Jeff Quackenbush, garnering First Team All-Ohio Capital Conference and First Team All-District honors in the 2013 and 14. The 6-2, 180-pound guard also earned First Team All-Metro recognition and is a three-star recruit, according to ESPN, Scout and Rivals. Dartis also competes for All-Ohio Red under head coach Marcus Gill. Dozier currently competes for one of the top post-graduate schools in the nation at Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Va., under head coach Ed Huckaby. The 6-9, 225-pound power forward averaged 11 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks per game in at Sherwood High School in Sandy Spring, Md., under head coach Tim Gilchrist and earned the distinction of being a 2014 McDonald s All-America nominee. Taylor helped guide Northland High School to an Ohio High School Athletic Association Regional Final appearance in under head coach Sean Taylor. The 6-8, 220-pound power forward enjoyed strong spring and summer seasons for the All-Ohio Red squad under head coach Marcus Gill. HEADED FOR PARADISE The Ohio men s basketball team has been selected to compete in the 2015 Ezybonds U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, as announced by the tournament directors at Basketball Travelers Inc. on Thursday (Dec. 4). The Bobcats will join DePaul, Florida State, Indiana State, Hofstra, Norfolk State, South Carolina and Tulsa in the 16th annual event, which takes place annually the week before Thanksgiving and will be held November 20-23, 2015, at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, USVI. PRESEASON PREDICTIONS Ohio has been picked to finish second in the MAC East Division and received two first-place votes in the conference s preseason poll, as announced by the league office on Oct. 28. He was hired as the 22nd coach in program history March 26, Phillips directed North Dakota State to its first Summit League championship and NCAA Division 1 tournament appearance in He was one of 10 finalists for the Hugh Durham Mid-Major Coach of the Year award. PHILLIP S COACHING CAREER NDSU has been on the rise since graduating four starters from that NCAA team. The Bison won 11, 14 and 17 games before a 24-win season and Summit League title game appearance in NDSU played in the College Basketball Invitational for the second straight year. During his secen seasons at NDSU, Phillips posted a record through his seven seasons as a collegiate head coach, including a mark in the Summit League. The Bison finished the campaign with a 26-7 overall record and a 12-2 league mark this past season. Phillips was an assistant coach at North Dakota state for three seasons before being elevated for the head job when Tim Miles was hired by Colorado State. Before coming to North Dakota State in 2004, Phillips was the director of basketball operations for three years at Wisconsin, where he handled the day-to-day scheduling, coordinated travel, budgeting and on-campus recruiting for Bo Ryan s staff.
