CLOSED OUT NON-CON WITH A WIN Indiana wrapped up the non-conference portion of the schedule last Thursday when it defeated Yale on the road, Senior guard Tyra Buss led the way, dropping her ninth 20-point performance while senior forward Amanda Cahill (16 points), junior forward Kym Royster (15 points) and freshman guard Bendu Yeaney (14 points) all scored in double figures. B1G SLATE BEGINS Indiana opens the Big Ten schedule against Michigan State for the first time since The Spartans will be one of three opponents the Hoosiers face in home-and-home matchups this season (Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue). The Hoosiers will look to make it two opener wins in a row, coming off an win at Penn State in that opened up conference play. TWO RECORDS FALL Senior guard Tyra Buss broke her first school record against Virginia on Dec. 18 when she made six free throws to be the program's all-time leader in free throws made (516). In addition, she set another school record at Yale, getting to the line three times to own the record in free throws attempted (690). She is quickly approaching the school scoring record, holding 1,872 points and needs just 46 points to break Denise Jackson's 1,917 points set in Category (Number To Break Record) Steals - 19 Points scored - 46 Assists - 72 CAHILL MAKES HER MARK Senior Amanda Cahill will also move her way up in the IU record books this season, already making her mark in points scored VERSUS THE OPPONENT ABOUT THE SPARTANS Michigan State enters league play on a fivegame win streak including a victory over then No. 22 USF at the New Orleans Shootout on Dec. 21. They are led by junior center Jenna Allen (11.3 ppg., 5.7 rpg.) and freshman forward Sidney Cooks (10.8 ppg., 4.8 rpg.). The Spartans are averaging 80.5 points per contest and shooting 44.3 percent from the floor. They also lead the league in rebounding margin, grabbing more rebounds than opponents this season (44.0 per game). SERIES HISTORY Michigan State leads, LAST MEETING 2/2/17 - L, (East Lansing, Mich.) and rebounds. She s just the fifth-ever player to record over 1,400 points and 900 rebounds as she ranks fourth all-time with 932 rebounds and 12th in scoring with 1,496 points. KYM'S IMPROVEMENT Junior forward Kym Royster's play to start the season is one of the best improvements of any player in the Big Ten. The Newark, Ohio native is averaging 11.5 points per contest and has scored in double figures in seven games this season. Her +7.2 points per game this season is one of the best improvements in the Big Ten, ranking fourth among all returning players. She has also picked up nearly as many offensive boards (37) as defensive (50) while averaging 6.7 rebounds per game. PENN PUTS UP POINTS Freshman guard Jaelynn Penn continues to put points on the board for Indiana, as she averages 9.0 points and 5.5 rebounds through 13 games of her rookie season. She has scored in double figures four times and ranks seventh in scoring amongst all Big Ten freshman this season. She also ranks in the top 10 amongst all freshmen in including third in rebounds per game and sixth in assists (2.2). BENDU IN DOUBLE FIGURES Freshman guard Bendu Yeaney posted her sixth game in double figures and has been in double-digits for two consecutive games, coming off a 14-point performance at Yale, one point shy of her season-high. The Portland, Ore. native is putting up 7.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in 11 appearances this season. Greg Murray is in his fourth season as the voice of 4 CAREER BY THE NUMBERS HOOSIERS ON THE AIR Indiana moves to in overtime games and 3-2 under head coach Teri Moren. BREEZY IN THE CLUTCH Sophomore guard Bre Wickware came in and made two important buckets and provided a fourth quarter spark as IU beat North Texas on Tuesday. Trailing by three with 6:31 to play, Wickware's pass to junior forward Kym Royster cut the lead down to one and 30 seconds later was fed a transition pass for the layup to regain the lead. Her baseline jumper with 2:31 to play pushed IU's lead up to three before grabbing a much needed rebound off a North Texas miss to help seal the game with 13 seconds to play. HOOSIERS BATTLE WITH NO. 4 LOUISVILLE Indiana came within seven but couldn't pull any closer in the second half as it fell to No. 4/5 Louisville, 72-59, on Nov. 30 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Freshman guard and Louisville native Jaelynn Penn led with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, two blocks and a steal. Senior guard Tyra Buss added 12 points while senior forward Amanda Cahill contributed nine points, five rebounds, a team-high six assists, two steals and a block. BUSS SENDS IU PAST WKU Senior guard Tyra Buss s layup with three seconds left help give Indiana a win over Western Kentucky at home on Friday night. Buss led IU with 22 points while three others scored in double figures in a back-and-forth battled that avenged a previous lost at Western Kentucky last season.. DOUBLE-DOUBLES LEAD IU PAST JAGS Another pair of double-doubles led Indiana past Southern University, 64-49, on Nov. 14 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Junior forward Kym Royster set new career-highs with 14 points and 15 rebounds while senior Amanda Cahill turned in her second double-double in as many games (13 points, 10 rebounds). Senior guard Tyra Buss led all scorers with 23 points and five assists. BUSS NAMED BIG TEN HONOR ROLL Senior guard Tyra Buss was awarded for her season opening play on Nov. 13, when the Big Ten announced her to the Player of the Week Honor Roll. Her double-double of 28 points and 11 assists against Arkansas State went along with five steals, 10-for-12 from the free throw line and two rebounds. It marked the second time in her career she s been named to the weekly honor roll. FOURTH-STRAIGHT OPENER WIN IU won its fourth-consecutive season opener with a rout of Arkansas State on Nov. 11. Five players scored in double figures led by double-doubles from senior Tyra Buss (28 points, 11 assists) and Amanda Cahill (13 points, 12 rebounds). BUSS, CAHILL PRESEASON ALL-B1G Seniors Tyra Buss and Amanda Cahill were selected as All-Big Ten preseason honorees announced by the league on October 23. The duo made Indiana one of three schools with multiple preseason selections. BUSS NAMED TO WADE TROPHY AND NAISMITH TROPHY WATCH LISTS Indiana senior guard Tyra Buss was named to the Wade Trophy Watch List and Women s Citizen Naismith Watch List on Wednesday afternoon, announced on Wednesday afternoon. Buss also made both awards watch lists in which both recognize the nation s top collegiate women s basketball player. CAHILL NAMED TO CHERYL MILLER AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST Senior forward Amanda Cahill was named as one of 20 players to the Cheryl Miller Award Preseason Watch List on Wednesday. The award, in its inaugural year, will honor the nation s top small forward. This list will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-february and then 5 finalists will be selected in March that will be presented to Cheryl Miller and the selection committee. FRESH(MEN) FACES Indiana s roster will feature a host of new players including five freshmen - Alexis Johnson, Linsey Marchese, Jaelynn Penn, Keyanna Warthen and Bendu Yeaney - who will make an immediate impact. Overall, the Class of 2021 was been ranked as the No. 13 signing class in the country by ProspectsNation.com. In addition, ESPN, ProspectsNation.com, All-Star Girls Report and Collegiate Girls Basketball Report have all ranked IU as the top class amongst the Big Ten. THREE INK LETTERS FOR #IUWBB Indiana picked up three members of the class of 2022 on Wednesday during the early signing period. Grace Berger (Louisville, Ky.), Chanel Wilson (Powder Springs, Ga.) and Aleksa Gulbe (Riga, Latvia) have all signed their national letters of intent to play for the Hoosiers next season. #IUTALY The Hoosiers traveled abroad to Italy this summer as part of its first foreign tour in eight years August The team visited Rome, Vatican City, Florence and Venice while playing three games against foreign opponents. BUSS TAKES PART IN U23 TRIALS Buss was selected to take part in USA Basketball Women s U23 Trials in Colorado Spring, Colo. July 31-August 4. It marked the first ever event Buss attended with the national program, as she was one of 37 college-aged athletes to be invited to team trials. WISE AND PATBERG JOIN THE PROGRAM Indiana picked up two transfers during the offseason in junior Brenna Wise and redshirt sophomore Ali Patberg. Wise spent her first two seasons at Pittsburgh while Patberg comes after two seasons at Notre Dame. Both will sit this season due to NCAA transfer rules. INSIDE IUWBB AIRS THURSDAY NIGHTS Another season of Inside Indiana Women s Basketball is underway every Thursday night at the Bloomington Holiday Inn. The 30-minute show is hosted by the voice of IU Women s Basketball Greg Murray, who enters his fourth season. The show will air live on WHCC FM and a live stream on also live. ABOUT LAST SEASON The season was one for the IU record books with the program winning a record 23 games, a fourth-place finish in the Big Ten and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT. IU also records back-to-back 21 win seasons for the first time in program history and the seventh time its posted 21 wins or more. IU s double-digit wins in Big Ten play (10) are also the first back-to-back double figure victories for IU since and IU recorded the first back-to-back winning campaigns for the program since and RECORD SETTING CROWD Indiana set records off the court as well, setting a new record for single season attendance in An average of 2,954 fans saw 15 home wins, which tied a school record. MOREN TO BE INDUCTED TO SEYMOUR HOF Indiana Women s Basketball head coach Teri Moren has been selected as one of the inaugural members of the Seymour High School Athletic Hall of Fame class. Moren, who graduated from Seymour High School in 1987, is among 15 members who was selected as part of the first-ever hall of fame class. At Seymour, Moren helped her teams to four sectional titles, two regional championships, a semi-state win and a 1987 state finals appearance. She was selected as an Indiana All-Star in her senior season and also inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on April 26,

The 23 wins marked the seventh time in program history the Hoosiers have reached 20 wins or more, including back-to-back seasons for the first time ever. The program also featured its first All-American in 31 years, as junior guard Tyra Buss was named a WBCA All-American Honorable Mention. For the first time since , Indiana featured three players on All-Big Ten teams highlighted by a repeat All-Big Ten First Team selection Tyra Buss. Junior forward Amanda Cahill (second team) and senior guard Alexis Gassion (honorable mention) were also honored, as Gassion was selected to the league s All-Defensive team, also the first selection since In addition, Cahill earned CoSIDA Academic All-American honors, the first for the program since 1989 and the fifth player ever in school history. In her second season , Moren led the Hoosiers to the most regular season wins (20) in program history while also tying for overall wins (21) in a single season. Indiana had the school s second-most Big Ten victories (12) ever on her way to being named Big Ten Coach of the Year. She became just the second IU coach to earn the award (Maryalyce Jeremiah, 1983) while leading the program to its first NCAA Tournament berth in 14 years. The Hoosiers won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1983 with a triumph over eighth-seeded Georgia in the first round at Notre Dame as the No. 9 seed in the Lexington Region. Indiana s 21 wins marked the sixth time in program history that IU had won at least 21 games in a season as its 12 Big Ten victories were the school s most since Moren s Hoosiers finished fourth in the Big Ten, the school s highest conference finish in 18 years, and earned a No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, tying for the program s highest seed ever in conference tournament play. Under Moren in , Tyra Buss was named First Team All-Big Ten, becoming the first IU player to earn first team honors since Amanda Cahill earned Second Team All-Big Ten accolades. Buss and Cahill become the first IU duo to earn all-conference recognition in the same season since During her first year in Bloomington in , Moren led the Hoosiers to the program s best scoring average (71.9 ppg) since , the best team free throw percentage (74.3 percent) since and the most steals (284) since IU nailed point field goals, the second best total in school history, and also cracked the top five in program history in free throw percentage (4th), points scored (5th, 2,229), points per game (5th) and 3-point field goal percentage (5th, 33.1 percent). Indiana also set single game records for scoring (115) and 3-pointers made (16) in the season opening win over Gardner-Webb on Nov. 15, IU also tied the school mark for field goals made in that game (46).Off the court, Moren s team achieved a team grade point average of 3.23 in Indiana University Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced the hiring of Seymour, Ind., native as head coach of the IU women s basketball program on August 9, Prior to Indiana, Moren won a Missouri Valley Conference championship during her four seasons with Indiana State. She led the Sycamores to two WNIT appearances and had six players named All-MVC. ISU finished with a record in , the program s first 20-win season in eight years and just the fifth 20- win campaign in school history. With a 14-4 record in conference games, Moren s Sycamores won a share of the regular season MVC title and earned the No. 1 overall seed in the MVC Tournament. Prior to ISU, Moren was associate head coach at Georgia Tech. In each of her three years there, the Yellow Jackets made an NCAA Tournament appearance and won 22 or more games each season. Moren began her head coaching career at the University of Indianapolis ( ). The 2003 WBCA Region 4 Coach of the Year in NCAA Division II, her teams went to three consecutive NCAA Division II Tournaments and earned Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles in That squad finished with a 29-3 record overall and an 18-2 mark in conference play. Moren began her coaching career in at Butler ( ), leading the Bulldogs to three 20-win seasons. Moren then spent two years as an assistant at Northwestern ( ). A 1992 graduate of Purdue University, Moren earned her bachelor s degree in therapeutic recreation. She was a four-year basketball letterwinner and twoyear starter for the Boilermakers under Women s Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Lin Dunn. She was part of three NCAA Tournament teams and Purdue s first Big Ten championship. Moren graduated from Seymour High School in 1987 and was named an Indiana All Star. She led the Owls to four sectional titles, two regional championships, a semi-state win and a 1987 state finals appearance. She was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame on April 26, 2014 and will be part of the inaugural class of the Seymour Athletics Hall of Fame in December 2017.
