Select Soccer Important Select Season Contacts The AYSO Area 2C/2D Select Soccer Program is a Winter/Spring soccer program that provides a higher level of competition than the regular Fall program. By providing a more competitive program for our players we hope to develop player skills to a level not always possible through the Fall recreational program. These players (and coaches) then bring their improved skills back to the recreational program, improving the overall experience for ALL players. It is important to remember, however, that this program is still a part of AYSO, and therefore is still guided by the same principles that cover the Fall program. It is important that all teams recognize that good sportsmanship and positive coaching are not set aside during this season. This program is governed on two levels at the Area level and the Regional level. The Area 2C/2D Select Regulations specify the rules that manage the program. In addition, each Region may have its own rules and procedures that specify how the teams are to be formed and managed, within the Area rules. 7 Area 2C/2D Regulations Regional Regulations The Select season draws teams from Area 2C and Area 2D. Each Area includes multiple Regions, although not all Regions will compete in the Select Program. Area 2C includes the American Canyon, Concord, Delta (Rio Vista), Mtn. House, Mt. Diablo, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill/Martinez, Richmond/San Pablo, Stockton, and Walnut Creek Regions (others may be included as the Area grows). Area 2D includes the Davis, Antelope, Winters, Rio Linda, and Capay Valley (Esparto) Regions (others may be included as the Area grows). The Select Soccer Program is administered by the Area 2C/2D Select Coordinators one representative from each Area. The rules and regulations that guide the Select Soccer Program are created by this group (with input from the Regional Commissioners and Select Coordinators from each participating Region), however rules for THIS season have not been finalized at the time this manual has been published. Rules for the previous Select season are included in this manual for reference. Each Region specifies its own rules and regulations as to how the local program is run, how teams are formed, and so forth. While each Region is given flexibility in how their Select program is to be administered, the program must still abide by the Area 2C/2D regulations, and those of the AYSO National program. 8 Davis Select Program Davis AYSO (Region 218)) offers a Select soccer season, open only to players (and coaches) who participate in the Fall recreational season. Select is an opportunity for players to improve their skills in a more competitive environment. A limited number of teams will be formed in each age group, starting with Under 10. These teams are formed in November, and will participate in a season from January through March against teams from other AYSO Regions. Most teams will continue playing through May or June, traveling to various tournaments. A high level of commitment is expected from the players, coaches and parents. Select is for motivated and enthusiastic players and coaches. The details of this commitment can be found within the Player Commitment form in Appendix A. This guide is intended to provide our Select Program coaches with important information about the Select program, and about your role and responsibilities as a coach. It is critical that the coaches are familiar with the information in this guide, and adhere to all Rules and Regulations of AYSO and the Select Program. Please Note that this information is subject to change during the season, if the Davis Regional Board, Davis Select Committee, or the Area 2C/2D Select Committee votes to implement a change. The Select Program and How It Fits within AYSO The Select Program is designed for developing AYSO players who are committed to improving their skills and playing soccer at a higher level of competition. Select retains the AYSO child-friendly philosophies while at the same time providing a higher level of soccer competition. AYSO s Approach to Secondary Play AYSO nationally sanctions several secondary programs, including Select, that provide playing opportunities after the primary (Fall) program has concluded. Children within Select must also participate on a primary season team (in Davis this would be a Fall team) and these programs must be funded separately from the primary program. Select is defined by AYSO as an opportunity that bases team membership primarily on skill, attitude and sportsmanship. Rules for Select The Select Program is governed on two levels. First, rules for the overall program are issued by the Area 2C/2D Board, with representatives from each AYSO Region AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 4

that participates in this program. Second, Davis AYSO has established a series of Rules and Regulations developed and administered by the Davis AYSO Select Committee, under the supervision of the Davis AYSO Regional Board. AYSO Select Davis While the Area 2C/2D Select Rules specify that you must have at least one Select team for every six Fall teams that you have in a division, Davis AYSO usually creates teams at a higher ratio to provide more players the opportunity to play at a higher level of competition. Teams are formed in boys and girls divisions in Under 10 through Under 19, and the number within each division varies from year to year based on the number of applicants and available coaches. Additionally, the composition of Under 16 and U19 teams may also vary it is possible that these divisions will be combined into one. The configuration of Under 16 and Under 19 is determined in the Fall by the Area 2C/2D Select Committee, based on the interest level from the member Regions. Select team formation is guided by a set of rules defined in this document (see Select Team Formation ). Player Eligibility To be eligible to participate in the Select program a player must be registered, and must have participated, in the prior fall season no later than the first weekend in October. The player must participate in at least 70 percent of the Fall Season, which includes the Jamboree (U10) or Regional Tournament (U12, U14, U16 and U19). Rained-out games are included as games played, and players must meet regional playing time guidelines (currently three-quarters of each fall game before anyone on the team can play a full game). Players are expected to attend regularly scheduled practices. Exceptions to the eligibility requirements above may be allowed on a caseby-case basis with approval of the Select Committee. Players must participate in the same division in Select as they participated in during the prior Fall Season. Coach Eligibility Coaches for Davis Select teams are self-identified and must submit an application prior to the deadline to be considered. The Select Committee reviews all applications, then makes recommendations as to who to choose for Head and Assistant Coach positions for each team. These recommendations are presented to the Regional Board where successful applicants are approved. To help guide the selection of coaches for the Select program the Davis AYSO Select Committee has adopted the following policy. To be eligible to be a Head Coach or Assistant Coach: 1. It is expected that the coach be currently registered with the Davis AYSO program. 2. The coach should have coached a team in the current Fall season. 3. The coach should have turned in a Select coach application on time. 4. The Head Coach and Assistant Coach may not have any of their children rated below 3 the previous Fall season unless approved by the Select Committee. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 5

All coaches, in addition to updated Safe Haven certification, must have the appropriate coaching class for their age group (e.g., U10 and U12 coaches must have taken the Basic U12 coaching class, U14 coaches must have taken the Intermediate course, and U16 and U19 coaches must have taken the Advanced coaching course). Often there will be more applications for coaches than there will be coaching spots available. The Select Committee often has a difficult time in deciding on which coaches to accept. We encourage all interested coaches to apply. Many criteria are considered in choosing the coaches for the Select teams. The following prioritized list shall be used when considering Select Coaches and Assistants: Embraces the AYSO philosophies Obeys Safe Haven Level of training Child s rating 3 or better Responsible Teaching skills Soccer knowledge Organized Years coaching Continuing training Current service Past service Child in division In addition feedback/evaluations from previous coaching experiences in Select may be used. Second Assistant Coaches: All Select teams must have an approved head and assistant coach. A Select head coach may request a second assistant coach. However, a second assistant coach shall not be approved until after the Select draft is completed and a player may not be reserved in anticipation of a second assistant coach being asked to join a team. Select assistant coaches must meet the same requirements as the select coaches: VAF, Safe Haven certified, Coach certification and Regional Board approval. A second assistant coach s child is not guaranteed placement onto a Select team. That player must have met the same eligibility standards as all other interested players and must have been drafted or on the wait list in order to play. The Davis Select program will not supply the second assistant coach with any coach apparel. The select team will have to cover the cost of any apparel ordered for second assistant coaches. No more than three coaches per select team shall be allowed. Select Season The Davis AYSO Select teams participate in the Area 2C/2D Select program. The specific list of Regions that participate each year varies. Area 2C is generally composed of several Regions from the Walnut Creek, Concord and Stockton area. Area 2D generally includes Regions from Davis, Winters, Rio Linda, Antelope and Capay Valley (Madison). The first game of the Select season will be tentatively held January 10, 2015, and the season ends with a tournament at the end of March. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 6

You can expect to have at least half of your games on the road. Locations of games can be 1 to 1.5 hour drive away from Davis. Tournament Season Select teams are kept intact through the end of July. While the Select season ends by April, most Select teams continue to play through the end of May or possibly into June or July. Once the Select tournament is completed there are numerous tournaments in Northern California, Nevada and Southern California that Davis AYSO teams are eligible to participate in. Some Regions will combine their Select teams into a tournament team after the end of the Select Tournament, but this is not allowed in Davis. Select teams cannot be disbanded and reformed in a different configuration until after the Davis World Cup. Our goal is to keep all of the Select players involved in the program within their drafted teams until the conclusion of the regular tournament season. In some cases a Tournament Team or Practice Team can be formed. Typically this is done by a coach who wishes to gather together a team of players who were not drafted to a Select team. Please see the Tournament Team appendix in the Davis Regional Guidelines for the rules governing a tournament team. Note that tournament teams cannot interfere with Select tournament season teams, in that you cannot recruit a player from a Select team to participate with a tournament team. In some cases there are tournaments following the end of the Select season that a Select team wants to participate in, but some of the players on that team cannot attend for one reason or another. This team can temporarily add players for this tournament from other non-participating Select teams, or from the wait list. You must have prior permission from the Regional Select Coordinator or Regional Commissioner prior to contacting replacement players for a tournament. Details of this are discussed in the section on Select Team Formation. The Regional Select Coordinator will distribute information about AYSO approved tournaments as the information becomes available. Please note that most tournaments, particularly those in Northern California, fill up very quickly after the applications are available. You will need to respond quickly to these tournaments if you want to be sure to get accepted. Note that some tournaments are open only to AYSO teams, and some are open to both AYSO and CYSA teams. Some tournaments offer a reduced fee if you bring referees who will work a specified number of games. The following is a list of tournaments that have been available in the past, with an indication of the general timeframe that they are held, as well as possible costs. 13 The Coach s Role in Select Balancing the AYSO Principles and a Higher Level of Competition The single most important thing to remember is that Select is not win-at-all-costs! Every Select coach must recognize and abide by AYSO s key principles of Everyone Plays, Positive Coaching, Balanced Teams (within the Davis region), Open Registration (every child that applies should be evaluated), Good Sportsmanship and Player Development! The coach must always balance the desire to win versus the needs of the players to also have fun and be treated well as kids. Remember always they are children and not miniature professional athletes. Developing Skills and Having Fun Long after the game scores are forgotten, the players will still retain the skills that they were taught in this program. Skill development, good character through a positive sports experience, and having FUN are the primary things the coach wants to develop in the players. If the players do not have fun, chances are they won t apply to participate again. Managing Parents & Their Expectations Many parents bring challenging expectations to travel sports. The coach s role is to help manage those expectations to be reasonable. The coach should try to avoid a mentality where the parents see themselves and the coach as helping push along their child s budding sports career. Managing these expectations will prevent many problems down the road in handling over-involved parents. Make your goals for the team known at your first parent meeting. Having a well organized agenda and covering the potential issues up front is always the way to go. Parent participation is required. The coach should never come out of their first meeting without distributing team jobs. If You Have Problems The Davis Select Committee is always available to help you. Don t let problems build, talk to someone from the committee. Please first go to your Divisional Select Coordinator they can then either help directly or find out who has the information you need. Key Things the Coach Must Adhere To Playing Time All Davis Select teams are required to play every player 75% of the game before any player can play a full game during the regular Select season. Coaches may play players half the game during important tournament games; however, the same player must not play only half a game each game during the tournament. This should be rotated amongst other teammates. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 9

Participating in All Scheduled Games A great deal of time and effort is undertaken by Regional and Area schedulers, not to mention Tournament Coordinators, in developing game schedules that are fair and balanced. As such, it is expected that Davis Select teams will play each game as scheduled, wherever and whenever that game is held. This applies to the regular Select season, the Select Tournaments, and each tournament your team participates in. Remember, you represent Davis no matter where you play! Positive Coaching Required Coach Meetings Positive Coaching is just as important an AYSO principle in Select as in the Fall season. A coach will get the best results, and happiest kids and parents, if he or she practices positive coaching. Constructive criticism is always okay and a necessary part of coaching at this level, but the coach should never verbally abuse or berate players. Remember that these are children! Teaching Sportsmanship This AYSO principle is also key in Select. While Select games may tend to have more aggressive play at times than in the Fall season, the coach must avoid any tendency to play dirty even if the other guy seems to be pushing the limit. Coaches must remember that they are role models to the kids, and the kids will key on what they see the coach do and how the coach behaves. Balancing Winning against Skill Development and Fun No coach, even in the Fall season, probably ever walks onto a soccer field intending to lose a match. Nevertheless, you are better off to have a.500 season with welltreated and happy players than be undefeated at the expense of the kids and their having fun. Representing Davis at Other Towns Whenever a team travels to another community and plays a match, the coach must remember that he/she and the team and parents are representing Davis AYSO. What they do reflects on the entire organization. Coaches must always maintain good decorum at all times. Treat the Referees With Respect It is imperative that the coach must always treat the referees with respect. The referees are volunteers, and without their assistance we could not have a season. If the coach treats the referees with respect, the parents and the players will also. There are a number of meetings that each coach will be REQUIRED to attend. The list varies from year to year (see the current season calendar). You can expect the following: 1. The Select Draft for your division. This will be held sometime between November 17 and 21, AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 10

2. A mandatory Davis Select Coach meeting on December 11, 2014 from 7:00-8:00pm at the AYSO building. It is imperative that all Davis coaches attend this meeting. At this meeting, we will be checking Fall registration forms, and collecting registration fees. If all of this information is present, the Regional Commissioner will sign your Coach and Player ID cards and you will receive your official Tournament Rosters that you will need for signing up for tournaments. Team Management Parent Meeting As soon as possible (after December 1, when you are allowed to begin holding inperson meetings and trainings with your players) you should hold a parent meeting to talk about the upcoming season. Please explain that the tournament fees, lodging, meals, and travel expenses can amount to up to $750 per player. Scholarships are available to players in need, but these can only cover all or a portion of the Select Registration fee ($170 for ). It is critical that coaches work with the team, as well as individual families, to make sure decisions as to which tournaments to attend, how many to participate in, where to stay, and similar issues take into account possible financial constraints. No family or player should be required to pay for optional gear and activities (e.g., team dinners, etc.), so Team funds should not be collected and used for such costs. You may want to send out an giving information about parent jobs and practice times before the first meeting. Sample parent team jobs include: o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o Volunteer Coordinator Select Tournament Volunteer Coordinator Davis World Cup Safe Haven Coordinator (if coaches are not same gender as players) Coach Communication Liaison (Practice cancellation, etc.) Shutterfly Website Manager (if used) Hospitality/ Medals/Trophies Treasurer Newspaper Reporter Referee (need 2-3 for tournaments): This is a critical function! Snack Coordinator Picture/video coordinator/historian Travel coordinator/maps First Aide/ Games/Weather Items, sunscreen, washcloths, etc. Set-up/take down (3 families) The Parent Meeting is critical! It is where you communicate and set expectations among your parents about the upcoming season. Plan to communicate your coaching philosophy and objectives for the team as well as any operational information about practices and schedules that you have at that point. Set up a communications routine that you will follow throughout the season. is highly recommended for speed and ease of use. Also, the free Shutterfly website allows for easy communications and scheduling, as well as shared photos and videos. Phone trees or phone services are also effective. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 11

You will need to discuss the fees and costs of the program, decide on the time and location of practices, and discuss the issue of player (and parent) commitment to the program. In addition you must discuss the responsibilities that your team will have for field setup and takedown, the Select Tournament, and the Davis World Cup Tournament. For example, for Davis World Cup, the number of volunteer shifts required for each Davis team equals the number of players on the roster minus two (for Coach and assistant). So the identification of a Volunteer Coordinator to organize this effort is critical. This is also the time to discuss the Tournaments, to get an idea of what tournaments your parents are interested in attending. Parent Volunteers Inform your parents that your team is required to supply volunteers to participate in the operation of the Select Tournament (for those teams that will play in Davis for this tournament some will play at other locations) and the Davis World Cup tournament, which is held on Memorial Day weekend. Acceptance in the Davis Select and World Cup tournaments will be not be granted until all the team volunteer positions are filled for your team. All parents are expected to participate in both of these tournaments. You will need to select one parent to be your team volunteer coordinator. This person will be the liaison between the Select Committee and Davis World Cup Committee and your team. In addition, your team will be responsible for field setup and/or takedown duties if you are the first or last team on the field. Please recruit several parents to handle these chores. Each parent who will perform any volunteer functions for the Select season must have an active Volunteer Application Form (or VAF) completed and turned in before performing these functions. It is strongly encouraged that coaches have each parent fill out a VAF, as that will then not prevent anyone in assisting during the season. Player Documentation You must collect the following items of information to document your players: You must obtain the official AYSO player ID number for each of your players. This will be needed for picture IDs and any tournament applications. If this information is not provided to you on a copy of your official roster, contact the Regional Select Coordinator as soon as possible. You must get a copy of the Fall AYSO Player Registration Form from the parents of each player. The Player Registration Form must ALWAYS be in your possession at any practice, game or other AYSO event. Each coach should have a complete set. You may be asked to present these at any game during the season. You will often be asked to present these at tournaments when you sign in. You must have a Picture ID card for every player, with the player ID number, birth date, and Regional Commissioner signature, on the official AYSO form. A Word template of this form is attached at the back of this Coach Manual. You will need to have these cards for EVERY SELECT GAME and most tournaments. This can be a time-consuming chore either tell your parents to AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 12

bring a picture with them to your initial parent meeting or take (or have a parent take) digital photos at this meeting. We RECOMMEND that when you have your first set of cards completed that you take them to a copy shop and make two color copies of them for safekeeping, as the cards can easily be lost. Laminate them as individual cards (not as one sheet). Make two sets (the original, and one from the copies) and give the backup to the assistant coach. Fees and payments Select Fees vary from year to year, but are attempted to keep as low as possible to cover expenses. Select fees for will be $170 per player. These fees must be collected by each coach and turned in no later than the mandatory Select Coaches Meeting. You will not receive your signed roster or your team uniforms until the fees have been turned in. Checks should be made out to AYSO Region 218. A limited number of scholarships are available contact the Regional Select Coordinator for information. This is for Select season registration fees only scholarship funds are not available for tournament fees, optional gear, or other expenses. Optional Select gear (sweatshirts, backpacks, caps, etc.) will be available at a local sports shop at the beginning of the season. Again, these items are strictly optional and coaches cannot mandate their purchase. Flyers detailing these items will be distributed in early December to all families. When you are talking to your parents about fees, you should talk about the possible tournaments that you may attend. There is no fee for the Select Tournament. All other tournaments will charge a fee, which can be roughly $ per team, with refunds for referee coverage in most tourneys. It is expected that teams will only collect fees for those items that are required, and will minimize miscellaneous fees to make the season as reasonably priced as possible. Optional gear cannot be required. Training Sessions Select Teams may start training sessions on December 1, Teams can only have two contacts per week and practices are not to exceed 90 minutes in length until the Select season begins. A scrimmage counts as a contact. Select coaches will have access to the goal combinations so they can use a goal during Select practices. These will be given out at the mandatory Select coaches meeting in December after signing an agreement stating that combinations will not be shared with parents, players or other non-coach individuals. Teams must abide by all safety measures. Goals must be anchored by four goal anchors and players under 18 years of age are not allowed to move goals. Failure to share goals between teams or failure to keep goals locked when not in use will result in the loss of using goals for Select practices for the entire region. Practice locations are limited in the winter and early spring. We ask that you do NOT use the fields that our games are scheduled on during the wet part of the year. Do not use ANY field if it is wet and muddy. It is difficult to find time to practice during the winter, as the day lengths are very short. You may not reserve fields for practice with the exception of Playfields and city fields where fees are incurred to practice at night. Practice is on a first come, first serve basis. Fields are only reserved for scrimmages between two teams. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 13

Uniforms and Equipment Davis AYSO will supply you with the official Davis Select uniform. Typically you will receive two jerseys of different colors, one set of shorts, and two sets of socks, for each player. DO NOT put the player names on the back of the uniforms! This is not a safe practice when working with children, and is not allowed by AYSO rules. You also cannot add any sponsor information. If you have any questions please contact your Divisional Select Coordinator and/or the Regional Select Coordinator. If for some reason you want to use alternate uniforms than the ones that are supplied (such as at a tournament), you MUST GET APPROVAL OF THESE UNIFORMS from the Regional Commissioner before you purchase them. Alternate uniforms are not allowed during the Select season (up through the Select Tournament). Any additional uniforms or clothing purchased by the team must be voluntary. A coach who purchases extra clothing first and then informs families they can reimburse the coach if so desired is not considered voluntary. TEAM EQUIPMENT: Most coaches will have retained their team equipment (soccer balls, goalie equipment) from the Fall season. If you need additional equipment, you may get that at the mandatory Coaches meeting on December 11. After that date, contact your Divisional Select Coordinator and he/she will coordinate with the Equipment Coordinator. Games Select Games will generally be held on every weekend from early January through late March. One weekend may be skipped for the AYSO Section meeting. The season will end with the Select Tournament in late March, although many teams continue to participate in tournaments. Makeup games, extra games, scrimmages if you wish to add a game to your schedule please contact the person appointed to manage field scheduling to reserve a spot. It is best to reserve a field through AYSO so that we don t have multiple teams trying to hold a game at the same time. Many teams will try to schedule a second game during the season on Saturdays, or prior to the season to prepare for the upcoming games. ALWAYS BE NICE TO THE REFEREES because they are volunteers, and if you (or the parents) are hard on them then they won t referee your game, and without a referee your games will be CANCELLED. A good practice is to have the entire team shake hands with the referees after shaking hands with the players of the other team. ALWAYS SHOW GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP to the other team. Your game schedule will be provided to you as soon as possible. It is anticipated that Select games will begin the second weekend of January IF YOU ARE THE FIRST GAME ON THE FIELD IN DAVIS: You will be responsible for field setup. SOMEONE ELSE will NOT DO it you are responsible. If you don t know how to set up a field, contact your Divisional Select Coordinator. IF YOU ARE THE LAST TEAM ON A FIELD IN DAVIS: You are responsible for field takedown. If you do not take the field down properly you will be called out to do the job later that day, or your future home games may be cancelled. Not knowing that you had the last game on a field is not an appropriate excuse please check the game scheduler if you have a late game. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 14

IF THERE IS RAINY WEATHER: If you are scheduled to play in Davis, check the web site ( - rainout information is on the Home page in the top left corner. Coaches are required to join the City of Davis list serve for Inclement Weather Field Conditions by doing the following: Go to the City of Davis Website: Under the heading Department Navigation (near the bottom of the page), select City Council & Commissions. Under the heading Department Navigation (near the top of the page), select the s List link Then select the Create a new account link Then follow Steps 1-4 to create a user name and password then verify password Enter your address and then confirm account Select residency IF THE GAMES ARE CANCELLED: Call the opposing coach (you will have a coach list of all teams) and let them know that the game is cancelled. You may find that the decision is postponed to Saturday morning check the website that morning before calling the opposing coach. If you are scheduled to play in another town then there will be a rainout number for that Region on your schedule. Scrimmages with Non-select teams Before Davis AYSO Select teams are permitted to scrimmage against non-ayso teams (Legacy, Alliance, etc.), a request must be submitted and approved by the Regional Select Coordinator prior to the scrimmage. These scrimmages must be officiated by ASYO or USSF-certified referees, with the main focus being the safety of the players. Coaches on both teams need to be highly involved in the scrimmage and discourage overly aggressive play whether or not the referee is considering infractions. Contact the Regional Select Coordinator and provide the following information for scrimmage approval: Date of scrimmage; Time; Location; Referee(s); Opponent age group; Opponent gender; Opponent major classification: (Class I, Class III); Opponent minor classification: (letter A-K indicating level of competitive play within that CYSA class. Rosters The Select Committee controls your team roster. You cannot add or delete players without permission. There are a number of restrictions on what you can do with your roster. Any changes that might be allowed must be approved in advance by the Select Committee. Your initial roster will be determined by the Select Draft (see the section on the Select Draft later in this manual). This roster must be approved by the Select Coordinator. After the draft, the Coaches cannot contact the players until after the contact date set by the Select Committee (for , this will be November 21, 2014). This allows the Select Committee time to review rosters, and to get the letters in the mail to those players who were not drafted onto a team and placed in the wait pool. When you make the initial phone calls to the team that you have drafted, you may find that some players have changed their mind. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 15

Conduct During Games YOU MUST FIRST contact your Divisional Select Coordinator to discuss whom you want to add to avoid having multiple Select teams calling the same reserve player (teams CANNOT compete for the same player). All requests for additional players must go through the Select Committee, and then the teams will be allowed to draft fill-in players in as deemed appropriate by the Select Committee. Prior to the first regular game of the season, it is possible to make changes if players drop out. Again, you must first contact your Divisional Select Coordinator before contacting any players, and you can only draft additional players from the Select wait list. NOTE that a coach CANNOT drop a player from a team without first discussing the issue with the Regional Select Coordinator and gaining approval (see Player Commitment section later in this Manual). Once the first game of the Select Season has been held, there can be no changes in your roster without approval by the Area 2C/2D Select Coordinator. You will contact the Regional Select Coordinator, who will ask for Area approval. Generally in the first few weeks of the season this can be done. Later in the season this will usually NOT be allowed unless there is an injury to a player. Changes will NOT be allowed just for the Select Tournament. After the Select Tournament you can make changes to your roster for specific tournaments with the permission of the Regional Select Coordinator. Again, you cannot drop a player yourself if there are problems you have to work with the Select Coordinator. Some teams will find that there are players who wish to drop out because of participation in other sports. Players who drop from your team cannot play for another AYSO team. For tournaments you may be required to add players from the Select wait list. See the section on Roster Changes After The Select Tournament, under Select Team Formation later in this manual. Again, you must get permission before contacting any players. ALL players that are added to a team (as guided by the rules above) must have participated in at least 70 percent of the games in the prior AYSO Fall season, unless a waiver is granted by the Regional Select Coordinator. Coaches Positive coaching only will be allowed 10 yards to each side of mid-field, and only from one side of the field (their team's side). Coaches are to stay behind the touchline at all times, unless called onto the field by the referee. Opposing teams will stay on opposite sides of the field where practical. Home teams will have their choice of sides of the field. At the end of the game, the players and coaches on each team shall line up and shake hands with the players of the opposing team and then the referee and linesmen. Remember, if you're a good winner, be a gracious loser. As a coach, during the regular Select season, do not sign up to referee other teams in your division as to minimize potential conflict of interest issues. For tournaments outside of Davis, we STRONGLY encourage you to follow this policy as well. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 16

All of your games are held in the spirit of good sportsmanship and regard for your game and your opponent. Recognizing that the outcome of a game produces winners and losers, there is no purpose in running up the score and producing lopsided victories. Once your team achieves a significant advantage in a game, we suggest that you use the opportunity to rotate players into positions that they don t normally play, give opportunities for your defensive players to play on offense, and work on passing skills. A run-up score does nothing for your team and only discourages the other team. Player registration forms must be in the coach s possession at all games and practices. These can be subject to inspection by the referee or any AYSO official. Failure to show these forms upon request may result in a forfeited game. The Select Coordinator will be notified when a coach is asked for and cannot produce these forms. Remember, these forms are Consent to Treat forms in the event a player is injured and the parent is not present. If a coach has forms for some players but not others, the players without forms cannot play. As a matter of course, a photocopy of the forms should be given to the Assistant Coach and Team Parent to ensure they are present at all games. Picture ID Cards are required for every player. These cards may be examined by the referee at the beginning of the game and/or by the Field Marshal at tournaments. The official AYSO form must be used, and each card must have the player name, ID number, birth date and be signed by the Regional Commissioner or his/her proxy. Coaches may not change the venue of any tournament game. Even if two Davis Select teams are playing at a distance for a Tournament game, it is at a minimum unfair to the host organization to request a different location to be more convenient to the teams. Coaches may not forfeit a game if the minimum number of players are available. It is expected that all Davis Select teams will play each game as scheduled against whoever is on the schedule as long as the referee deems the playing conditions safe. If there are concerns about the safety of players regarding individual games due to issues unknown to the referee, this information should be provided to the referee, the tournament director, and/or the Regional Select Coordinator prior to starting play. Decisions as to commencement of play will then be made. Spectators/Families Parents are to stay back a reasonable distance from the touchline at the discretion of the referee. Standard FIFA rules shall apply except as designated by AYSO. There shall be no coaching from spectators on the sideline, and positive comments only will be allowed. Spectators must not come onto the field without referee permission, cannot be behind the goal line or nearer to the goal than the penalty area. It is the coach's responsibility to control spectators and the coach may be asked to do so by the referee. A coach may be warned or expelled for not complying with such a request. The referee can terminate the game if in the referee's judgment the game cannot continue or be played fairly due to spectator or coach behavior. The referee has the power and authority to discipline and eject players and coaches if their conduct violates the rules of the game, these Guidelines or otherwise interferes with the course of play. The use of alcohol or tobacco products in the vicinity of the playing field during practices or games is strictly forbidden. At many game locations, dogs are not permitted so please alert your parents to this in advance. AYSO Select Coach Manual Davis Select Program 17

Select Team Formation Overview of Team Formation All Davis AYSO Select teams will be formed by the process described below. Variations are not allowed unless specifically approved in advance by the Select Committee. In late September early October, applications for coaches and players will be distributed to all Fall AYSO participants. Currently, applications will be compiled using Survey Monkey, and the application is a hard deadline (e.g., late applications will only be accepted with extenuating circumstances). After player and coach applications are collated, the Select Committee will make recommendations of the numbers of teams to comprise each division based on the number of applicants. As a minimum there should be one Select team for every six Fall teams, although this number is typically exceeded in Davis. In general, the Committee attempts to balance the need to provide an environment for player development while ensuring a competitive season. Once the number of Select teams are determined, the Select Committee will make recommendations as to which coaches and assistant coaches amongst the applicants should be chosen for the teams. Should an insufficient number of coach applications be received for the number of recommended teams, the Committee may solicit additional applications for specific divisions. Once the Select Committee has developed recommendations, the Davis AYSO Regional Board must approve team numbers and coach recommendations. Once the coaches have been selected and approved, they will be provided with a list of player applicants for their division, and they will scout the teams. There are strict rules on what can and can t be done in scouting, as listed later. Prior to Thanksgiving, the specific Divisional Select Coordinator will conduct a draft according to the rules listed later. After the draft, the teams must be validated by the Select Committee. AYSO will letters to the players NOT selected, and after those letters are sent (for 2014, November 21) the coaches can contact their drafted players. Player Eligibility Players must be registered and have participated with their Fall AYSO team no later than the last weekend in September (of the prior AYSO Fall season). AYSO Select Coach Manual Select Team Formation 18

Scouting Fall Teams Players must participate in at least 70 percent of the Fall AYSO games. Variations can be allowed due to injury and special circumstances (with approval of the Select Committee). Players must participate in the same division in Select as they participated in during the prior Fall AYSO season. Players must complete an application for the Select season and turn it in to the Select Committee. Note that this is a hard deadline applications will not be accepted after that date without extenuating circumstances. After successfully being approved by the Davis ASYO Board, the Select coaches will be given a list of the players who have applied to play in the Select program. 1. Coaches must evaluate all players in their division by observation of as many games as possible. All coaches should observe each fall season team (and therefore each registered player) on at least two occasions. 2. Coaches MAY NOT discuss select team consideration with individual players or parents. 3. If at all possible, coaches should discuss individual players being considered for selection with that player's fall season coach. 4. Try-outs are not permitted unless established by the Select Committee. The one current exception to this rule is that there is a Preview Day for U10 and U12 age groups organized by those Divisional Select Coordinators; however, this should not be considered a try-out and failure to attend the preview day should not eliminate a player from being considered. Draft All Davis AYSO Select teams will be formed by the following process. Variations are not allowed unless specifically approved by the Select Committee. All drafts will be overseen by the specific Divisional Select Coordinator appointed by the Region's Select Coordinator. The Divisional Coordinator will convene the draft at a time and location convenient to all participants. A list of all eligible players (the Draft Master Listing - those players who signed up for the Select season) will be brought to the draft by the Divisional Coordinator. 1. The only people that will attend the draft will be the Divisional Coordinator and the officially assigned coaches for the teams involved. In addition, any member of the Select Committee can attend as an observer. 2. The designated coach(s) child(ren) are the only players assigned to the team prior to the draft. 3. The designated coach(s) child(ren) are to be ranked with respect to their likely draft round. An attempt to reach a consensus will be attempted, however, in the event this is unsuccessful, then the Divisional Select Coordinator will render the final determination. Remember that each team may only have the official coaches as assigned by the Select Committee, to avoid a team from trying to control the results by adding multiple assistant coaches. 4. Before the draft is initiated, all participating Head Coaches, the Divisional Select Coordinator and the Select Coordinator review and agree on the final eligible AYSO Select Coach Manual Select Team Formation 19

Draft Master Listing. If there are any questions as to eligibility, the Regional Select Coordinator will be contacted. A player not on the Draft Master Listing will be considered ineligible. In situations where there are siblings in the same draft, the Divisional Coordinator will give the Select coaches information about whether families choose to have their children drafted on the same or different teams and how to proceed in placing siblings in the draft. 5. The Divisional Select Coordinator will have the prior Fall season player ratings, which will be utilized to ensure that no player of substantial ability is accidentally overlooked. At the option of the Select Committee, it is possible that Select coaches will be given access to current player ratings all coaches in a division must have equal access, and player ratings must not be discussed with any other coach, any player, or any family member. 6. The Divisional Select Coordinator will typically determine the order of the draft based on a roll of a die, with the largest number rolled choosing position within the draft (first choice, second choice, etc.). 7. The draft will proceed in a serpentine fashion until all teams are formulated (team 1, team 2, team 3, team 4; then team 4, team 3, team 2, team 1 and so on). The Divisional Select Coordinator will insert the coach(s) child(ren) at the appropriate round in place of a drafted player. 8. When the draft reaches the middle or late rounds, the names of any highly rated eligible players will be listed to ensure that a player was not overlooked. Ratings may be discussed, but this information cannot be mentioned outside of the draft. 9 There will be a minimum/maximum number of players per team, depending on the division. This information will be distributed to the select coaches at the beginning of the scouting period. "Split position" where two players share one player position is not permitted. 10. Every effort should be made to select at least one player from every Fall season team. The selection of more than 6 players (including coach s children) from any one team when multiple teams are in the Fall division must be justified to the Select Committee. 11. Once the draft is completed, the Divisional Select Coordinator will review the Draft Sheet with all coaches, and every coach will sign the Master Draft Sheet. Coaches then have a defined period of time determined by the Select Committee (typically up to 24 hrs) to discuss potential trades with other teams and/or additions to the roster before the rosters are finalized. Any changes to the roster within this period must be communicated to the Divisional Select Coordinator in writing, agreed upon by each involved coach, and approved by the Regional Select Coordinator before become final. 12. Once the draft is finalized, no further negotiations will be allowed. For better or worse this will be the final composition of the team unless the Select Committee feels the teams are grossly imbalanced or an improper draft was conducted. 13. All team rosters will only be considered to be finalized after the Regional Select Coordinator has signed off on them, therefore, no contact should be made with the players until notified by the Divisional Select Coordinator. The Select Committee will specify the earliest date that players can be contacted; usually after the wait list letters have been ed. 14. All remaining players that are on the Draft Master Listing that were not selected will be considered an alternate pool of players ( wait list ) to be used as replacements for Select teams for the course of the Select Season through the Select Tournament. If a team loses a player any time from the Draft through the Select Tournament (or if the team wishes to add a player) that player must come AYSO Select Coach Manual Select Team Formation 20

Player Commitment from this pool. Prior to adding or replacing a player, the coach must ask for permission from the Divisional or Regional Select Coordinator. Players cannot be dropped from the team without permission from the Select Coordinator, and for a good reason (see Player Commitment section later in this Manual). Note that additions or replacements to a team after the Select games have started may be restricted by Area 2C/2D rules (permission must be obtained from the Area Select Committee by the Regional Select Coordinator). Check the Area 2C/2D rules for the latest information, but in general you cannot add a player after the first few weeks of the season unless you are replacing someone for an injury, and in some cases (such as for the Select Tournament) not even for that reason. 15. If a player is wished to be added, do not contact a player or player s parents until you have permission from the Select Coordinator. The Regional Select Coordinator will ensure that this player is eligible, that the Area Select Committee will approve the addition, and that only one team contacts the player (to avoid teams competing for players). If the alternate pool is exhausted, then players who did not sign up for Select can be considered (only Fall Season players are eligible). 16. The Regional Select Coordinator also has the final decision in any draft disputes. Playing AYSO Select soccer is a tremendous opportunity for kids to gain additional skills and knowledge of the game through an extended season and due to a more competitive environment at a higher level of play. However, the Select season does require a more serious commitment than the Fall recreational season, as players are chosen from an interested pool of applicants to fill roles within a team. Should a player be chosen and is not able to fulfill the commitment required, it is not fair to the coaches, the team, and the player(s) who were not selected to play. Therefore, Davis AYSO Select requires that players make a serious commitment to their Select team. While we understand some players are involved in other sports and activities, we require that the player will make his/her Select team a FIRST PRIORITY over club soccer and devote AT LEAST equal time to all other activities. We strongly encourage players to disclose potential conflicts during the Select application process so that coaches have this information while scouting potential players. We do understand, however, that conflicts arise over time and are not always known when applications are due. Therefore, we ask that if potential conflicts arise after applying, the player (or their parent) contact the Select Coordinator by at least the week before the draft, so that the player application is modified appropriately. Players may also choose to withdraw their application prior that date if they feel their other commitments may not allow them to be fully vested to their Select team. After the draft occurs and players accept a position on a Select team, it is expected that they will abide by the Player Requirement guideline above and/or by the potential conflicts outlined in their application. If unexpected conflicts arise for players after this point, we encourage the open and transparent discussion of this to the player s coach so that everyone understands the conflict and mitigation measures may be discussed between player/parent and coach. HOWEVER, if players cannot abide by the commitment required by the Select season AND did not disclose these conflicts prior to the Draft AND mitigation measures AYSO Select Coach Manual Select Team Formation 21

cannot be worked out, coaches - in fairness to all team members - have the opportunity to drop players from a Select team after consultation with the Select Committee. The process by which this can occur is as follows: The coach must contact his/her Divisional Coordinator to explain the issues and to provide the facts on the problem The Divisional Coordinator may contact the player/parent to acquire additional information on the issue. The Regional Select Coordinator will schedule a meeting of the Committee as soon as feasible to discuss options. If removal is approved, the Regional Select Coordinator will contact the parents to explain the result and to work out logistics (e.g., uniform return, possible reimbursement of a portion of the Registration Fees). The Coach may then add a player from the wait list to replace the removed player. While hopefully this process is only rarely followed to this conclusion, this may ultimately be the fairest action for the individual player, his/her teammates, the team as a whole, and a non-selected player willing to make that commitment. Roster Changes after The Select Tournament Most Davis Select teams will continue to participate in the Tournament Season following the Select Season Tournament. Although the formal Area 2C/2D Select Season has ended, it is the policy of Davis AYSO to keep the Select teams together as long as they are participating in the Tournament Season. Our goal is to keep all of the Select players involved in the program. Some teams will continue through the Davis World Cup tournament in May, others may decide to participate in additional tournaments in June or July. Select players cannot change teams, nor can coaches disband a Select team and reform a new tournament season team in a different configuration. If a Select team chooses not to participate in a particular tournament, then those players may be invited to fill an open spot on another Select team for that tournament (the coach of that player s original team must be notified). Note that any changes or additions to rosters, even during this period of time, must be approved by the Select Committee or the Regional Commissioner. If a Select team wishes to add a player to fill a vacancy in the roster for a tournament the coach must have prior permission from the Select Committee prior to contacting replacement players. Players added to the team after the Select Tournament must be taken from the select reserve list or wait list, and they must have participated in at least half of the games in the prior Fall season. If a player is to be added, the other coaches in the same division must be notified prior to the player being contacted. If multiple teams wish to add players then the Select Committee will arbitrate the selection of players. AYSO Select Coach Manual Select Team Formation 22

Select teams shall be formed from players who were registered with AYSO or an equivalent fall house program and were assigned to a fall team and who participated with that fall season team in at least 50% of their team s regular fall season games; some regions may require a higher percentage. Select players must play in the same division they participated in during the Fall season, except that players who played in the U9 division in the fall season will play U10 in the select season. 2. The AYSO philosophies apply during the Select season and that includes balanced teams. If a region has more than one team participating in the same age group, there is to be no A team nor B team but multiple balanced teams instead. 3. Select teams will compete as follows: U10 teams will play 7v7 with a maximum of 10 players on a roster; U12 teams will play 9v9 with a maximum of 12 players on a roster; U14 teams will play 11v11 with a maximum of 15 players on a roster; U16, U16/19, and U19 teams will play 11v11. There will be a maximum of 18 players allowed on a roster. o U16/19 teams will be considered and scheduled as U19 teams. If a Region fields more than AYSO Select Coach Manual Area 2C/2D Regulations 23

o one team at the U19 level then those teams must follow the Region s guidelines for team balancing. Depending upon the number of U16 and U19 teams playing in any given Select Season, those teams may be scheduled to play against each other during the season. Preference will be given to separate U16 and U19 scheduling if the resulting schedule offers enough variety. The Select Season Tournament will be scheduled preferring separate U16 and U19 divisions if possible and if the schedule offers enough diversity. Otherwise U16 teams may be scheduled against U19 teams. U16, U16/19 combination, and U19 teams will play 11v11. There will be a maximum of 18 players allowed on a roster. The Area 2C/2D Select program will have one division that will include all U16, U16/19 combination, and U19 teams. Any Region that wants to participate in this division must provide an opportunity for both U16 and U19 players. o If a Region has just a U16/U19 combination team, there is a limit of nine U19 players on the team (no limit to number of U19 s on the field at one time). o If a Region has separate age-pure teams (e.g. pure U16), U16 teams are allowed (if more than one, they must be balanced) as long as there is at least one U19 team or at least one U16/U19 combination team. o If a Region separates teams into U16 and U19 (or U16/U19 combination) then there is no cap to the number of U19 players on the U19 or U16/U19 combination team. o In the Select Tournament, U19 teams will play other U19 teams or U16/U19 combination teams and U16 teams will play other U16 teams or combination U16/U19 teams in the Select Tournament but U16 teams will not play U19 teams. 4. Each player and coach must have an ID card [Template of ID card must be approved by the Area 2C/2D Select Committee use of the AYSO template is recommended) and the cards have to be signed by the Regional Commissioner. The Coach ID card must display the coach s certification level. 5. ID cards, player registration forms and medical release forms shall be available at all practices and games. 6. As per Section 2 and AYSO guidelines on secondary plays, coaches must have a volunteer application form in file with their home region, be certified in Safe Haven (if they were certified before August they need to take the new safe haven course and be trained for the age level they will be coaching in. 7. Per AYSO National rules and regulations only 2 coaches are recommended in the technical area during the games. Other spectators should cheer only. 8. In each Area, a credential check will be completed by the Area Select Coordinator prior to the first game of the select season. Select coaches must submit three copies of the eayso roster, signed by their Regional Commissioner, along with signed medical release forms and laminated Player ID cards for each player on that roster. 9. In each Area, any select roster change must be submitted to and approved by the Area Select Coordinator. Changes will normally be approved only to replace a player who is injured and not expected to return for the remainder of the season or who moves out of a Region. No additions to a select team roster will be allowed after January 31, unless approved by the Area Director. Select Season Rules 10. All games shall be played by current FIFA and AYSO National Rules and Regulations unless otherwise altered here. If there should be any conflict between Region and Area 2C/2D Select Season rules, Area 2C/2D Select Season rules will prevail. Each Region should supply its referees with a copy of these rules. 11. Both Areas 2C and 2D are committed to adhere to the ¾ playing time to maximize the players playing time so no player can participate in the full game until at least every other player has played ¾ if able and willing ; 12. Substitutions in U10 through U14, shall only occur at approximately midway into each half, at half-time, or when a player is injured under the discretion of the referee. 13. Substitutions in U16, U16/19 combination, and U19 games substitutions can be made by either or both teams at any stoppage of play with the permission of the referee. Permission may not be given if the substitution request occurs just as the ball in being put into play or a team requests a substitution but the substitutes are not ready at the halfway line. Referees are encouraged to talk to both teams coaches about good sportsmanship and about AYSO Select Coach Manual Area 2C/2D Regulations 24

not delaying the game using substitutions. 14. Referees are required to file a report for games with any cautions and/or send-offs by any team to the Area Referee Administrator within 24 hours after the conclusion of the game. 15. Slide tackling and heading of the ball in the U10 division are allowed but must be done in a safe manner. Referees can use their discretion to call dangerous play or a direct free kick foul as warranted. Coaches should use caution when instructing players related to these soccer moves. 16. Uniforms must conform to AYSO National Rules and Regulations. Uniforms must display the AYSO logo. Player names shall not be displayed on any external portion of the uniform. If there is a conflict in uniform colors, the home team shall either change uniforms or wear pinafores. 17. Warm clothing may be worn under the uniform (under jersey and shorts). Long pants (anything that extends below the knee) shall not be worn by any player other than the goalkeeper. Clothing worn under the uniform should be as close to the uniform color as possible or it may be black. No loose items will be allowed, such as the hood of a hooded sweater. Health and safety of the participants should come first so referees should be flexible with underclothing in case of extreme weather (cold or rain) 18. Casts, splints or body braces made of a hard substance are not allowed in any practice or game, even if wrapped with softer materials. Leg braces must not have any exposed hard surfaces and must be approved by the game referee. In order for a player to return to play after suffering an illness or injury that required the care of a physician or a visit to an emergency care facility, the player s parent or guardian must provide a complete participation release form to the player s coach. 19. Non-medical alert jewelry, including friendship bracelets, must be removed before participating in practice or a game. Medical alert bracelets and medical alert necklaces must be taped to the body, with the medical alert message visible. Taping over of any other jewelry is unacceptable. 20. The referee always has the final word on any safety issues. 21. All select teams shall use individual standard AYSO game cards. Players shall be listed on the game card in numerical order. Sportsmanship 22. Good sportsmanship is one of the basic principles of AYSO and is expected from all players, parents, and coaches. Each Area Director shall review any problems with sportsmanship of any player, parent or team from the director s participating Regions. Coaches are responsible for the behavior of the parents on their team. 23. Criticism of referees and other volunteers will not be tolerated. Sanctions will be taken by the team home region as appropriate and necessary. 24. Referees must report to their Regional Select Coordinator within 24 hours after a game any player send offs and coach expulsions. The Regional Select Coordinator is responsible for communicating the report to the Area Select Coordinator within 24 hours of the receipt of the report. The Area Select Coordinator will then forward the information to the Area Coach Administrator, the Area Referee Administrator and other interested parties, including the other Area Select Coordinator. Players who have been sent off and coaches who have been expelled will have a minimum of a one-game suspension. The player s or coach s Area Director may apply a longer suspension and that decision will be final. 25. Incidents involving Coach misconduct must also be reported to the Area Select Coordinator at once. 26. Any player who has accumulated three send-offs or a coach who has been sent off during the select season are subject to being disqualified for the remainder of the select season, including the select season tournament and will be subject to disciplinary review by the player s or coach s Area Director, Area Coach Administrator, Area Referee Administrator and Select Coordinator. 27. Coaches are to be reminded that winning by more than 6 goals goes against the AYSO philosophies and should be avoided. Select Season Tournament 28. All teams that participate in the select season are eligible to participate in the select season tournament. 29. A portion of the tournament will be hosted by Area 2C and a portion will be hosted by Area 2D. All select teams must supply volunteers to help with the tournament in their area. 30. Any Region hosting a portion of the select tournament must receive approval from the Region s Area Select AYSO Select Coach Manual Area 2C/2D Regulations 25

Welcome to the Davis AYSO 2015 Select Season Parent/Player Commitment Form Congratulations! You have been chosen to play on a Davis AYSO Select soccer team for the 2015 season. In order to make the season enjoyable for everyone, a strong commitment to the Select program is expected from parents and players alike. We ask that both a parent and the player sign this form and return it to your Select Coach at the team meeting. As a Select Program parent, I will strongly encourage and help make sure my child: 1. Attends team practices and team building activities; 2. Arrives on time, fully prepared and dressed, ready to participate in practices and games; 3. Contacts the coach when my child cannot attend practices or games; 4. Plays the position the coach assigns. I will also control my behavior and be a positive role model to my child by: 1. Respecting coaches, referees, players and other AYSO volunteers; 2. Limiting my comments to encouragement during practices and games; 3. Refraining from arguing with referee calls, coach s instructions and player s abilities; 4. Abiding by AYSO s Kid Zone pledge. I understand that Select families have an additional obligation to help out at tournaments. There are a variety of tasks that need to be completed to ensure the success of the Select tournament and the Davis World Cup. Volunteers are needed as referees, field marshals, equipment and registration staff. Each team will have a volunteer coordinator to help the tournament committees schedule the volunteers, and each family is expected to volunteer. Lack of volunteer effort may impact the team s ability to attend Davis-led tournaments. As a Select Program player, I understand that it is my responsibility to: 1. Attend team practices and team building activities; 2. Arrive on time, fully prepared and dressed, to participate in practices and games; 3. Contact my coach, by telephone, text, or , if I will be absent from any practice or game; 4. Play the position I am assigned during practices and games; 5. Respect all players, coaches, referees, parents and other AYSO volunteers; 6. Respect other people s property as though it were my own; 7. Understand that being part of a team means making a commitment to the other players and I will give 100% effort. We understand that following the Select Season tournament (March date TBA) is a Tournament Season. Our coach and team can choose to participate in any or all of the following tournaments. We understand we re responsible for the tournament fees, which can average about $40.00 per player per tournament. Some of the more common tournaments that teams have participated in are: 1. Pleasant Hill Soccerfest, mid-late March 2. Carson City Comstock Shootout, end April 3. Pacifica Fog Classic, early May 4.
