Stats: Watch: Up Next: at Denver Sept a.m. PT The Eastern Washington University soccer team heads out for two road matches starting this Friday (Sept. 7) as they take on Colorado State at 3 p.m. Pacific time, and then Denver (Sept. 9) at 11 a.m. PT. These matches are the first of two on a three-game road swing. Eastern is on the season and is coming off a 2-0 loss to Boise State on Aug. 31. Goalkeeper Kelsee Winston made a career-high five saves in net for the Eagles. Eastern s loss against the Broncos broke the 12 straight unbeaten home streak for the Eagles. EWU s last loss at home dated back to Sept. 10, 2017 when they fell to CSUN 2-0. Northern Arizona 3-1-1, Northern Colorado 3-3-0, Eastern Washington 2-2-1, Idaho 2-3-0, Weber State 1-2-1, Montana 1-3-1, Portland State 1-3-0, Southern Utah 1-5-0, Sacramento State 0-4-1, Idaho State 0-4-0, Jenny Chavez has moved up to third overall in program history in career goals with 18. Raniere is now tied for third in the EWU record book with total number of assists, with 14 overall, just four away from ranking her within the top 10 on the Big Sky Conference s all-time career assists list. The Eagles and the Rams are meeting for the second time in program history. EWU owns a 1-0 record over the Rams after topping them 2-0 in After their match against Denver on Sept. 9 the Eagles will then face Utah State (Sept. 14) on the road before returning to the EWU Soccer Field to host South Dakota State on Sept. 16.

The Broncos outshot the Eagles 10-7, marking the first match EWU has been out shot by any of their opponents thus far. Despite the loss, EWU goalkeeper Kelsee Winston saw 90 minutes in the net for the Eagles and recorded a career high of five saves. The Eagles saw a few opportunities for a goal with corner kicks throughout the match against the Broncos. At the end of the match EWU had recorded six total corner kicks. Eastern s loss against the Broncos broke the 12 straight unbeaten home streak for the Eagles. Eastern still remains in first with total number of shots with 86, averaging shots per game. EWU is tied for fifth overall in assists with three, along with Idaho State. The Eagles lead in corner kicks within the Big Sky with 43 on the season. A few Eastern players are ranked within the top-ten in shots taken per game in the Big Sky. These Eagles include; Allison Raniere who is tied for third with 13, followed by Alexis Stephenson who is tied for fifth with 12, and Jenny Chavez who is in seventh with 10 shots. Devan Talley and Emma Vanderhyden are both tied for eighth with nine on the year. WHAT ABOUT LAST YEAR: The Eagles posted another historical season in 2017, winning both the Big Sky regular and tournament titles en route to their second-straight NCAA College Cup. Eastern led the Big Sky in shots (398), points (129), goals (48), goals per game (2.09), assists (33), assists per game (1.43) and corners per game (6.43). Their Big Sky record of and overall record of are both program records. They also had an unbeaten streak of 11 games which was a program record. GET TO KNOW COLORADO STATE: Colorado State is a part of the Mountain West Conference and they are led by head coach Bill Hempen, who has been the Rams head coach since CSU is currently ranked sixth overall in the Mountain West Conference. Friday s match will be only the second time the Eagles have ever faced Colorado State in program history. CSU returns goalkeeper Hunter Peifer who has recently been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week (Aug. 20), as well as earning Mountain West All-Newcomer Team in Peifer is currently tied for first in the MWC in shutouts with one and second in saves with 22. GET TO KNOW DENVER: The University of Denver is a part of The Summit League and is led by head coach Jeff Hooker, who is now in his 27th season as head coach. Hooker led the Pioneers to a Summit League Regular Season Championship in 2016 as well as a Summit League Tournament title in The Pioneers are the only team the Eagles play this season that also made it to the NCAA College Cup last season. Denver is on the year and ranked sixth in The Summit League. The Pioneers have victories over Florida International 5-0, and Columbia 2-1. Jenny Chavez (5,753) EASTERN WASHINGTON SOCCER MATCH NOTES WELCOME TO THE FAMILY: After a busy offseason recruiting, Eastern welcomes 18 newcomers to the program and all are expected to help the Eagles soar into the new season. The new Eagles include midfielder Kaelyn Barnes, defender Janae Lee, midfielder Bailee Nelson, defender Ashley Valdivieso, defender Brooke Asbury, defender Mya Elder-Hammond, midfielder Nicole Bumgarner, midfielder Colby Wilson, forward Glory Smith, midfielder Mareonna Henderson, midfielder Vanessa Jones, midfielder Cameron Kieneker, forward Megan Drake, midfielder Ariana Escobedo, defender Sydney Douglas, and forward Annabelle Hall. Bodnar and his team also bring on forward Kendall Pope, a redshirt freshman transfer from Portland State, in addition to Rydeen. In addition, midfielder Brittany Delridge and defender Brittany Wiehe return after redshirting their freshmen seasons. PRESEASON POLL: The two-time defending Big Sky Conference Champions were selected to defend their title, as the Eastern Washington University soccer team was picked to finish first in the Big Sky Preseason Soccer Poll for the second-straight season, the conference announced Tuesday (Aug. 7.). The poll is voted on by the league s 10 head coaches and coaches cannot vote for their own team. The Eagles totaled 78 points and captured eight of the ten first-place votes in the preseason poll. Northern Colorado was picked to finish second with 69 points and one first-place vote, while Montana came in a close third with 66 points and one first place-vote. THE SCHEDULE: Boise State closes out the home stand on Aug. 31, the Broncos finished a season ago with a record in Mountain West play. Eastern Washington gets its first road test on Sept. 7 when they take on Colorado State. The only other NCAA Tournament squad on the schedule is Summit League member Denver, who the Eagles face on Sept. 9. The road trip concludes with another Mountain West opponent, Utah State, on Sept. 14. The Eagles return to Cheney to close out the nonconference portion of the schedule and open up Big Sky Conference play in mid-september. A matchup with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits concludes the nonconference slate on Sept. 16. Big Sky play opens at the EWU Soccer Field with Sacramento State (Sept. 21) and Portland State (Sept. 23). Senior Weekend and the final home matches of the season begin on Oct. 12 when Weber State comes to town and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 14 against Idaho State. The final weekend of the season takes place on the road when the Eagles make the trek to Flagstaff to take on Northern Arizona on Oct. 19 and Southern Utah on Oct. 21. The Big Sky Conference Tournament is held from Oct. 31-Nov. 4 in Ogden, Utah. THE RETURNERS: After losing three-time Big Sky Offensive MVP and the conference s all-time leader in points (109) and goals (44), Chloe Williams and 13 others, EWU looks to returning seniors; Jenny Chavez, Allison Raniere, Megan Spataro, Alexis Stephenson, and Devan Talley to lead their team to their third straight title this upcoming 2018 season. Chavez, who is tied for third all-time in the EWU record book in career goals scored with 17, is back for her final season in the midfield. She earned first-team All-Big Sky honors last season after ranking second on the team with eight goals. Talley started all 21 matches she appeared in last season and tied for second on the team with four assists and scored three goals on the year. Raniere saw playing time in 23 games and made seven starts for the Eagles last season. She ranked fourth on the team with four assists and fifth with 10 points overall. Raniere took 47 shots throughout the 2017 season to rank second on the team. The Eagles welcome back Big Sky Honorable Mention selection Grace Klinkenberg. As a freshman, she anchored the backline at the center back position and appeared in all 23 matches last season, starting in 18. Eastern returns two goalkeepers in Hadley Bezon and Kelsee Winston, while welcoming junior transfer Ryann Rydeen from Minnesota State. Bezon saw action in two games last season, starting both and logging 122 minutes in net. The junior picked up the victory in Eastern s season-opening 5-1 win over Omaha last year.

In January 2017, Bodnar signed a two-year contract extension that runs through the 2020 season. The 2017 season was the fourth under Bodnar s leadership as he led the team to an overall record of To earn that record, the Eagles had highlight wins over Gonzaga for the first time since 2002, their first Ivy League victory at Cornell and their first win over Northern Colorado since The No.14 seeded Eastern Washington University soccer team wrapped up their historic season in a double-overtime 2-1 loss against the defending National Champions, No. 4 Southern California, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game marked a back-to-back appearance in the tournament facing USC. During the regular season, EWU was crowned the Big Sky Regular Season Champions after going in conference play, marking the most Big Sky wins in a season for an Eastern Washington squad. The regular season championship was the second in program history, and the first since Eastern also had a program record of 11 regular season home games and two post season competitions, compiling an record at home. The 2017 season saw senior Chloe Williams named the Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year for a remarkable third-straight season, marking the school s first-ever four-time All-Big Sky first team selection and just the third to accomplish the feat in Big Sky history. She is also the first player in conference history to win Offensive MVP three times. The senior finishes her career starting in 78 of her 80 games played at EWU, which is also a program record. She sits in first place in school history in career goals (47), assists (21), points (109), shots (347), shots on goal (152) and game-winning goals (14). Additionally, the 2017 season saw senior M Kenna Hayes (First- Team Defender), senior Lexi Klinkenberg (Honorable Mention Defender), junior Jenny Chavez (First-Team Midfielder), senior Aimie Inthoulay (First-Team Midfielder), and freshman Grace Klinkenberg (Honorable Mention Defender) earn honors from the conference. The four first-team selections is a program record. Furthermore, Williams and Chavez were for the second year in a row selected as United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Team selections. In 2017, Eastern Washington finished first in the Big Sky in shots (386), points (127), goals (47), goals per game (2.14), assists (33), assists per game (1.5) and corners (145). After the USC game, the team ranked in the top-100 nationally in several categories including: corners per game (17th, 6.43), shots per game (21st, 17.30), goals (6th, 48), points (21st, 130), scoring offense (29th, 2.09), shots on goal per game (35th, 7.61), points per game (40th, 5.65), assists per game (80th, 1.48) and total assists (46th, 34). As a team, EWU broke school and Big Sky records all over the board. For the Big Sky, the 16 wins are tied for second for most wins in a season. The team tallied 398 shots on the year, good for second in the conference and first in school history. After scoring 48 goals, the 2017 squad also holds the school record for most goals in a season. The previous record was held by the 2016 team with 44. After compiling shots a game, and 175 shots on goal this year, the team sits in first place in program history in both categories. Their 148 corner kicks this season puts them in first place in program history as well. The team tallied nine shutouts this year, putting the team in first place for most shutouts in a season and setting another program record in the process. The contract extension comes after Bodnar led Eastern Washington to its first-ever Big Sky Tournament title in November 2016, following its best season in program history as the Eagles posted a record. EWU captured the conference crown on Nov. 6 in Cheney with a win over Northern Arizona in penalty kicks to advance to the program s first-ever NCAA Tournament. The Eagles faced No. 2-seed, and eventual National Champion, Southern Cal in the school s first-ever NCAA Tournament game back on Nov. 12, 2016 in Los Angeles. Despite the 3-1 loss, Eastern was able to make a strong showing in the tournament, as they were the only one of two teams eventual NCAA Runner-Up West Virginia being the other to score on the Trojans during the tournament. Eastern has set single-season records for most wins (13, 2016), most Big Sky wins (6, 2015), longest unbeaten streak (10, 2016) and longest winning streak (8, 2015) under Bodnar. His 2016 squad set the single-season record for most goals scored with 44. The previous record had been 34 goals, set by his 2015 team. The Eagles win production has also improved every year under Bodnar, as he won eight games in 2014, 12 in 2015 and 13 in In 2015, Bodnar produced the school s first-ever Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year in Chloe Williams. Williams was named the conference s top offensive player after tallying a school record 30 points and tying Brittany Sparks single-season record of 11 goals. Williams then repeated as Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year in The senior-to-be owns program records for most goals (32), assists (18), points (82) and shots (246). Under Bodnar s tutelage, Williams earned four consecutive All-Big Sky first team honors, making her just the first player in program history to be named to the conference s first team four times. In his first four seasons, he has produced three Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year accolades, nine All-Big Sky first team selections and eleven All-Big Sky second team nods. He also helped Eastern Washington place its first two players on the NSCAA All-Pacific Region team, as Williams and Jenny Chavez each earned the accolade both in 2016 and As the head coach of Walla Walla CC s women s soccer program from , Bodnar directed the Warriors to a record, winning three Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges championships and nine East Region titles. The Warriors reeled off unbeaten streaks of 26 matches and 24 matches, respectively, during his tenure with the program. Walla Walla CC never lost more than five matches in a single season under Bodnar, winning at least 20 matches in eight of his 10 seasons. The Warriors went undefeated for the first time in program history in 2010, finishing with a mark en route to its second consecutive NCWAACC title. They followed that up with another unbeaten mark in 2011, winning their third straight conference championship with a record of Bodnar worked as an assistant with Walla Walla CC s women s program during the 2001 season in which the Warriors were NWAACC Tournament finalists. He then joined the Boise Capitals Soccer Club in Idaho as a youth director before rejoining the Warriors in Bodnar was also the head coach of the Idaho Olympic Development program, organizing and carrying out training sessions and coaching courses. Prior to his appointment with Walla Walla CC, Bodnar experienced success as the head coach of the Pasco High School boys program in the Big Nine Conference. The Bulldogs qualified for the state tournament during his two seasons and finished the 2005 season as Washington State finalists after winning the East Regional Tournament and Big Nine Conference title. Bodnar received All-Region Coach of the Year honors by the Tri-City Herald following the 2005 campaign. Bodnar played four years of collegiate soccer at Wisconsin-Green Bay, twice earning Midwest Collegiate Conference honors. Bodnar was a three-year team captain and was the team s MVP following the 1998 season. Upon completion of his eligibility, Bodnar played professionally for the Stanislaus United Cruisers in the Western Conference USSL League in California, as well as for the Yakima Reds in the PDL League in Washington. Bodnar graduated from Washington State in 2003 with a degree in humanities. He holds a USSF A license and NSCAA Premier Diploma. He and his wife, Lindsay, have twin daughters, Brodi and Jaxi, and currently reside in Pasco, Wash.
